I hate flashy annoying ads...- blackbelt88, on 02/26/2008, -7/+1I prefer Adblock classic.
- tehxen3, on 02/26/2008, -2/+9Luckily not everyone uses that or there would be no Web 2.0 as we know it.
- darkism, on 02/26/2008, -1/+14This is the wisest thing I've heard all day.
Kevin Rose needs to hurry up and sell Digg, then take the money and run off to an island somewhere because his wiseass users have no value to advertisers whatsoever.- Thinker10, on 02/26/2008, -1/+0While it is an attractive option, it would be the coward's way out. He needs to continue evolving Digg to suit the modern internet culture. Sure, it's harder, but it allows him to actually have a hand in how the internet is changing and growing while time marches ever on into the future.
Plus selling this site even just 10 years from now (as opposed to right now) would be a huge increase in money, assuming Digg itself doesn't get dugg down into obscurity. - Light11, on 02/26/2008, -0/+2You know only maybe 1%, probably not even that, use abp.

- Jeffler, on 02/26/2008, -0/+2OMIGOD! NO WAI!
- wedgemartin, on 02/26/2008, -2/+2I wonder what percentage of this came from the spamhausen.
- StatiK69, on 02/26/2008, -2/+2Wow, time for me to redo my adsense... only 5 cents for this month... I need a bigger chunk of that 21 billion. Or maybe it's just adblock plus FTL.
- VSLOATHE, on 02/26/2008, -0/+2Geeks don't click ads. Is your blog about geeky stuff?
Also, more blending, images beside ads, etc. Make the ads look more like links and blend in with the rest of your site.
Fair warning: some of what I've suggested is against Google's ToS.
- VSLOATHE, on 02/26/2008, -0/+2Geeks don't click ads. Is your blog about geeky stuff?
- TheFounder, on 02/26/2008, -0/+3That is classic.... considering most Agencies don't freaking do anything online.
- Skurt, on 02/26/2008, -0/+6And Google has $20B all sewn up already!
- cdigioia, on 02/26/2008, -5/+2So if he wanted to, Bill Gates could buy EVERY ad on the internet from now to about 2010....? : 0 (net worth of ~$60 billion)
- MentalReject, on 02/26/2008, -3/+6You have been chosen to win a free I Phone!
- Thinker10, on 02/26/2008, -1/+2Reminds of that joke ad with that bright flashing banner that reads:
"Congratulations! You won a free headache!"

- thatspsychotic, on 02/26/2008, -3/+3It should be interesting to watch this trend as more and more people wake up to the internet without ads through Firefox/Adblock/Filterset.G
- Falc, on 02/26/2008, -3/+2seriously... where are these ads that they are speaking of? Filterset.G makes my life happier...
- dudeguy1234, on 02/26/2008, -4/+2Wow... think if this was donated to some great cause... like Darfur, or, like, educating the President.
- tehxen3, on 02/26/2008, -0/+7Yeah, so start by example... Give all your income to a good cause.
Oh wait you don't have any.
- tehxen3, on 02/26/2008, -0/+7Yeah, so start by example... Give all your income to a good cause.
- hoowahman, on 02/26/2008, -1/+2Personally I never click on Ads...they just don't exist in my head with my tunnel vision. I guess I am a minority.
- Jadey, on 02/26/2008, -0/+5What you're describing is banner blindness and you're not the minority. You're a huge majority in fact. Average click through rates on ads are less than 1%. Fortunately, most advertisers charge for impressions, not clicks. Otherwise, there'd be far less revenue employing people to make content.
- dudeguy1234, on 02/26/2008, -1/+1Don't you love the ads for Swlss R0lex and enhancement for your male instrument, in only 15 minutes with no side-effects, just give us your credit card number? I sure love that ten minutes every day de-spamming MY inbox!
- InspectorGadget, on 02/26/2008, -5/+3I'm proud to contribute $0.00 to it. (Hosts file & Adblock Plus & Adblock Element Hiding Helper & NoScript FTW!)
- stutimandal, on 02/26/2008, -1/+2This number will get higher because internet is becoming a storehouse of information (unlike in the previous dot com bubble).
- 0crabby0, on 02/26/2008, -2/+1Increase ejaculations 350 percent!
- Awspire, on 02/26/2008, -0/+2Network Television made 22 Billion in revenues for 2007, which was down 2% from 2006, though their expecting an 11% increase in revenues for '08 due to political campaigning. Between the internet and TV, '07 generated over 40 billion in ad revenues, and thats not even factoring print ads. Didn't someone say were in a recession?
http://www.bia.com/pressitem1.asp?id=1115- jonborthwick, on 02/26/2008, -0/+3The recession, real or perceived, will actually help internet advertising. Ad dollars have already begun shifting to the most measurable medium. As budgets become more restricted investors will want to see a tangible effect on ROI - that means less dollars on 'branding' messages through expensive TV buys. Total ad spends may go down, but highly trackable paid search, display, and email campaigns should actually see increases.
- notmiya, on 02/26/2008, -2/+3Congratulations! You have been selected to win a free Apple iPhone! *mutemutemute*
...Why does that always seem to come up when you just turned your volume all the way up? Bitch scares the hell out of me sometimes... - VacaN, on 02/26/2008, -3/+1Honestly you don't even need Adblock, for those using IE simply download this Host File http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm and bam no ads!
But of course, I use both Adblock and Host files :) - redxninja, on 02/26/2008, -1/+4The internet is a serious business...
- shiftt, on 02/26/2008, -0/+1Oh? Link me to a website that proves this :)
- Sunscreen, on 02/26/2008, -0/+1Any porn site should ;)
- shiftt, on 02/27/2008, -1/+1Ok, I'll do it myself since nobody else wants to... http://www.internetisseriousbusiness.com
- shiftt, on 02/26/2008, -0/+1Oh? Link me to a website that proves this :)
- rogerbly, on 02/26/2008, -0/+1I use the shopping comparison sites like shopzilla.com alot. Do those count? Otherwise, I maybe click on a dozen Google adwords per year.
wikipedia is the new 1st choice search engine for many things. They could take a big chunk of ad revenue away from Google if they chose. But would wikipedia with ads still be as popular? - david5t, on 02/26/2008, -0/+1For those of you boasting that they don't click on ads (a la you don't have adblock installed or any other app)...most publishers don't give a *****. Cost per thousand 'impressions' is the system a majority of online ad companies use, not unique clicks.
- boing11, on 02/26/2008, -0/+7Personally, ads don't bother me. I realize it's necessary for sites I visit to make money ... it's what allows them to stay active and provide a web destination for me and all their other visitors. Running a site is a lot of work, and it's not cheap.
All you "I don't see adz lawlz!!11!" people need to pull your head out of your ass and realize if it wasn't for those ads, there would be no website for you to visit.
But I digress, we are living in a generation where people feel like it is their birthright to get anything and everything for free. - chasemus, on 02/26/2008, -0/+1If ad revenue totalled 21 billion for 2007, does anybody have any kind of reputable estimate of total sales revenue?
How much revenue is that 21 billion dollar expense generating?- AgmLauncher, on 02/26/2008, -0/+1It's not that simple. Not all ads are displayed for the sake of selling a product or service.
- OnlineAddict, on 02/26/2008, -0/+1Ads suck online! I don't respond to them unless it is a good TV Show or Movie! That's about it
