- craftyguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8So the IRS is allowed to charge interest, but if they overtax someone for a year, why doesn't the difference doesn't incur interest?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Don't worry, income tax is only here to pay for the war, it'll be gone soon.
- gnukix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Because you voluntarily *pay* your taxes every paycheck. You can elect to not pay them but then you have to make sure to set them aside, or eventally they'll catch up with you for tax evasion.
- syberghost, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The Supreme Court has heard the arguments that the 16th Amendment isn't legit. They've rejected them. There is no definition of "legal" that they don't meet that's of any bearing on reality. If you really want to avoid your taxes, commit suicide; then you'll have one really big last tax bill and be done with it.
- GuyHitByTruck, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5We have guns too. It's the second ammendment!

That's why those little red and green thumbs are there. If you don't like what someone said, do something about. Digg them down. :) - mijohnst, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4One thing that pisses me off about paying taxes that it keeps going up. It's so hard to get ahead these days because you have local, state and federal taxes wanting all their pots full of money and the people in the middle pay the bulk of it. I wish we had a flat tax of 15% MAX everyone had pay instead have variable taxes at every level that we're responsible for. Last I hear the tax code was over 32,000 pages. Why the hell does it have to be so complicated??
- graemee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yeah, by the 20's it will all go away.
- geronimo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Pay for it? We run a deficit. We print money and go into debt(treasury bonds)to cover war costs.

- ahawks, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Just out of curiosity... if you're so against taxes, who do you propose pays for police, national defense, public education, roads? Not to mention countless smaller things like say... research grants, space exploration, libraries, .....
- 15charmaxwtf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Essentials that taxes pay for need to be paid for somehow. So why should other people be forced to pay for other people's essential services. It is not like everyone puts money into a big pot to buy everyone else's shoes or food. The government simply has an inefficient monopoly on these services.

"Furthermore, being in a higher tax bracket does not make you earn less. The more you net, the more you will gross, regardless of tax brackets."
Yeah .. so the people at the top of one tax bracket gross more after tax income than the people at the bottom of the next higher bracket right? Wrong. - gr8whitesavage, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Man, the interest really buries you.
- Flimnit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think George W. would call it "Paying the freedom fee".
- mijohnst, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1gnomon you're a jackass. Obviously you're one of those stupid people sees nothing wrong with government overspending and over taxing it citizens. I call Democrate on you...
- dougvfr750, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I used to work in this industry and I find it interesting that the #1 and #2 firms are both in tax trouble. This could not have come at a worse time for this industry in general as all of the companies are struggling within a market that is really not growing like it has in the past, so they are basically fighting over the same shrinking pile of money.
- itsmrdumass, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2You don't pay taxes every pay check. You have the option to let your employer set aside part of your pay check so you don't have to worry about not spending it.
- gnomon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Pointing out a fallacy in someone's assumption of the tax code does not mean I like taxes. Learn how to spell "Democrat" if you want to really be patronizing. Did tax-funded public school teach you that horrible grammar? Maybe we should do away with taxes...

"Yeah .. so the people at the top of one tax bracket gross more after tax income than the people at the bottom of the next higher bracket right? Wrong."
Actually, I was saying you won't earn less being in a higher tax bracket. The higher tax rate is only for money made within that bracket, not for your total income. Remind me again how you are proving me "Wrong"? - Jammer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0What is illegal is the brother and sister that produced you.
- Hardcase, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3Man, this is why I left Slashdot. I guess there are trolls and wingnuts everywhere.
- gnomon, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2Of those 32,000 pages, 1 of them explains the graduated tax brackets, and it's rather simple. Furthermore, being in a higher tax bracket does not make you earn less. The more you net, the more you will gross, regardless of tax brackets.
I suggest you read some of those tax code pages before you criticize the easiest one to understand. There may be other arguments against the graduated tax brackets, but the complexity of it is not one of them. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -16/+11If only taxes were legal..
But, since they're not.. Why do you people pay them?
