- anagoge, on 11/13/2007, -0/+8"The English word ginseng derives from the Chinese term rénshēn, literally "man root"" - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ginseng
lol. Man root. - nomoreink, on 11/13/2007, -1/+7I lived in Korea for two years and they would tell me about the special "Mountain Ginseng" which only grows in the mountains, can't be domesticated, and is sold for millions of dollars. I later looked on wikipedia and realized that those asians are kooks when it comes to medicinal practices. Nutrition scientists still haven't found anything marginally beneficial to health in ginseng. Those asians are religious about the stuff though.
- Rahodeb, on 11/13/2007, -1/+5yeah, why would we need to put it in terms that everyone can understand? In fact, it shouldn't have been translated into english either, the story should have been posted in it's native Chinese.
- dunderballer, on 11/13/2007, -0/+4yet delicious in tea
- wearenotsickmen, on 11/12/2007, -0/+3Someone with $250,000 expendable income
- S2ThaNizzle, on 11/13/2007, -0/+3Actually yuans use the same currency symbol as yens, so ¥ can be yuans or yens.
- EvoldicA, on 11/13/2007, -0/+3They had the extra money lying around from the profits gained by using lead paint / GHB instead of the intended ingredients for items sold to the US.
- hambend, on 11/12/2007, -0/+2Oh yeah? Go tell that to a grizzly bear.
- schrankage, on 11/13/2007, -2/+4"Nature kicks ass" = one of the dumbest things I've ever read.

- thul, on 11/13/2007, -3/+4Actually neiltc13, it is not ¥1,880,000, it is 1,880,000 yuans. ¥ means yens.
- pkon, on 11/13/2007, -0/+1I didn't realize that old ginseng costs that much...
If I paid that much for it, I'd expect that ginseng would give me a I.Q of 250, a 12 inch dong, Muscles that would Arnold look small and shares in Digg. - inactive, on 11/12/2007, -1/+2The article forgot to mention the girls come with it. It all makes sense now.
- inactive, on 11/12/2007, -0/+1OK, I get that in many Asian cultures ginseng is a big deal. I also get that it is several "natural food" preparations and teas sold in the US. But WHAT makes this root so damn valuable? Is it because it has a pretty pattern? Does the potency increase with age? Is it because it takes years to tease out all the tiny feeder roots for the display without breaking them?
Seriously, does anyone have an answer to this? - accessviolation, on 11/12/2007, -0/+1Now nature's going to kick your ass
- KingGorilla, on 11/13/2007, -0/+1The one on the right is really cute
- Makaveli604, on 11/13/2007, -0/+1She's a model. Surprised?
- Berkana, on 11/12/2007, -0/+1The western analog of ginseng is the "Mandrake," (a man shaped root) which is traditionally believed to be an aphrodesiac. They are not related plants as far as I know.

- nunu4u, on 11/13/2007, -1/+1You should try the effect of ginseng! Those people aren't nuts the stuff works. Go to vitacost and order Energy 357, you will run around like an energizer bunny.
- bincoder, on 11/12/2007, -1/+1I think the $250,000 would make me far hornier than the ginseng.
Is it lead free? I guess that would increase it's value. - snugglebear, on 11/12/2007, -2/+2Wordpress = Fail.
