Splitting up a relatively short story into 3 pages is just annoying, and a stupid way to inflate page views. - bib4tuna, on 10/10/2007, -1/+41"Somewhere a guy just like you is doing a job just like yours and earning twice the money"
there aint nobody ripping up carpet for $30/hr - Nougat, on 10/10/2007, -1/+31Summary:
1. Move
2. Work for a company that will pay you more
3. Do something important for your company
4. Do something important for your company
5. Quit and work for yourself
I've got a better way. A way to make ten times the money you make now, for a tenth the work. It's all you'll ever need to know.
1. Convince other people to do the work
2. Conspire with others who follow step one in order to find new ways to convince other people to do the work
Look around you. You know that's how it's done. - SavageBlackCat, on 10/10/2007, -1/+29"Lee estimates that the top software developers at Microsoft earn nearly $275,000 a year."
Lee doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground. - Ouze, on 10/10/2007, -0/+26The actual title of this article is "How to double your salary*"
*(without a second job)
It should be "How to double your salary*"
*(not really) - deviouskoopa, on 10/10/2007, -1/+21"He's not more qualified. He doesn't have a browner nose. He simply found capitalism's G-spot and started rubbing away."
*waves WTF flag* - gadgetuk, on 10/10/2007, -0/+20Try to go over the top! A valuable piece of advice I received when doing contract work...
"Tell your prospective employer your hourly rate, wait a second, then punch him in the face. If he's more shocked by the punch in the face you're selling yourself too cheap." - ifm1989, on 10/10/2007, -1/+19According to the author, to make more money, move to the location where your job makes more money.
.....
Well damnit, why did he have to tell everyone?! - Punisher2K, on 10/13/2007, -0/+9How's your Mom's basement working out for you?
- serpanterra, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9I think a lot of that is hazard pay
- Ouze, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9you fail at the internet
- benroy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8not dugg because it doesn't apply to hookers.
- chris9902, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10that's the top developers. I bet Microsoft have a ton of low paying college students.
- SavageBlackCat, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9Avoid the IT field.
- cgruber, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7"He simply found capitalism's G-spot and started rubbing away."
Well that's official the internet is now broke for me. - michaelnew20, on 11/13/2007, -5/+12Work twice as hard! That was easy...
- Velnich, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Another Men's Health article eh? Did they just update their site or something?
- yellowsnowcone, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7whatever it is you do, you could probably get 2-3x your salary by doing it ... in Iraq ...
- mlvassallo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6It's a Men's Health article. They are trying to be the "Cosmo" for people with a penis. Give me Esquire and EGM any day :p.
- thatgirlismine, on 10/10/2007, -4/+10What if I'm already "that guy"? The article summary implies I can somehow make exponentially more money in a job by doubling what my employer pays for me. Therefore I will not read it.
- Thud, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6>that's the top developers. I bet Microsoft have a ton of low paying college students.
Microsoft's top-paid developers get to develop things like the Flight Simulator series.
The low-paid kids straight out of college are the Vista developers. - timusca, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I am.
- kungfumaniac, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6go international.

- captnkurt, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Paycheck + Scanner = Salary x 2
- ksemel, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Dammit, unclarified! I carefully edited, and my timer ran out. Mock me as the moron I am, but here is what I mean.
(Salary)*(Salary) != (Salary)*2 - thespiff, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Make exponentially more money by doubling your income? Somebody needs to get out the high school math textbook.
- adooga, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3If you read articles like that one, you're not "that guy".
- zzygoat, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4and nobody browsing digg for $24/hr

- OwdenBowden, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Fold it in half.
Now that was really easy. - bkrishnan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2and you'll be in the rat race forever! :)
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2What fetching genius wrote this tripe?
1. Move to an area where the cost of living is less, but the pay rate is high...ya, duh.
2. Find some company that will pay you more for the same work, but in a different industry...DUH!
3. Brown nose
4. Be a special flower! Just like everyone else
5. PLEASE...what a total load...
Yup, I want my time back and the author should have his rights to the internet revoked. - mrchin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Sounds simple but having balls is the key to getting any of this accomplished. My favorite part of the article is the Vick referenece:
Think you're not earning your true worth? Quitting your full-time gig and becoming a consultant may be the fastest way to double your salary. It also may be the fastest way, short of a dog-fighting conviction, to lose your house, your car, your girl, and your savings. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I live in Perth, Western Australia. We are in a resources boom. Shortage of teachers, nurses, police, tradesmen, no work for programmers maybe on the East Coast. The air is clean, crime rate relatively low, ***** factor low, the cost of housing rising.
In the mining industry; if you are willing to work in 40 to 50 degree dry tropical heat you can earn $120,000 per annum. 12 to 14 hour working day, work 14 days straight, 7 or 14 days off, fly in fly out to Perth at the companies expense. If you are interested speak to the Australian Consulate in your area. - brufleth, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Usually working twice as hard or half as hard really makes no immediate difference. In the long run...yeah still may very well not make a difference.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Why quit THEN become a consultant? I've seen lots of people move their FT gig into consulting over time and that works just fine. If you're good at consulting you should be able to get some work while you still have your FT job. If you find you're good at it then you can quit and see where it goes.
The notion of "quit today and do consulting tomorrow" is stupid. - Icyfenix, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Actually it's "Go work for a better company"
- Ryansmellsfarts, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2If only that were the case.
- nubi78, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I believe I am doing better then my co-workers for a few reasons..
1. I left my company, worked other places and came back on their request with a pay raise and a bonus.
2. I am studying for a higher degree (nobody else in my department is.)
3. I do no suck up to my boss but I do generally agree with his "mission" and make it known that I am on his side.
4. We do self reviews. The boss does not come out to see what we do so I write a three page review when my co-workers write a half a page. - silkysaul, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Word..
- fucknut, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2"He simply found capitalism's G-spot and started rubbing away."
oh man. They lost me right there... Now I'll never be able to find my dream job! - apoc06, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1wiki: snowclone, then wiki: lolcat... THEN comment
- j3one, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1To..
- loconet, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1actually, some people rather opt for dicking around for half of the day
- ronk, on 11/13/2007, -6/+7>Lee estimates that the top software developers at Microsoft earn nearly $275,000 a year.
Dang.. I don't even get paid one third of that.. My company sucks! - Stickd3th, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Agreed. Thank you sir!
- jeffchuck, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I've browsed Digg for over $30 an hour.
