- Enochyang, on 10/23/2007, -2/+19True story:
While I was a college student, I used to work for Kozmo.com as a Customer Service Rep. I got drunk one night and came in really late to work, and it was my first bad offense, but they fired me anyway. I was pretty ***** pissed off about it.. until the VERY next day, when a coworker friend of mine called me to let me know that the entire company had just SHUT DOWN! They didn't even open the doors to their offices and warehouses. HAHAH *****! Everyone had lost their jobs immediately, including the manager that fired me. Oh man, that's probably the only time in my life I'll ever feel so good about getting fired. - CrazyFerret, on 10/23/2007, -0/+13Was it by spending more than they earned?
- bacchus101, on 10/23/2007, -0/+11An unsourced CNET article being used by a blog trying to drive traffic to their "free" payday loans & cash advance loans so they can turn a buck or two. The quality of Digg stories getting front paged keeps getting better and better!
Umm.....Buried. - ChuckieBallz, on 10/23/2007, -1/+11Wow this article is a lot like the one CNET wrote...
http://www.cnet.com/4520-11136_1-6278387-1.html - douggmc, on 10/23/2007, -0/+9Ahhh ... Kosmo.com ... loved it when I lived in Seattle. Nothing like having a pint of Cherry Garcia, a 20 oz. bottle of coke, a Slim Jim, and a 9 volt battery delivered to your door in an hour from some dude on a Vespa (who happened to have more metal in his face than in his Vespa).
I miss 1999. - jackshellac, on 10/23/2007, -1/+7I love how the the pets.com puppet has a habit of resurfacing for other companies.
- reeder, on 10/23/2007, -0/+6I remember working at Dejanews.com back in the 90's. Everything was going great until they changed management, expanded to New York, and changed the entire system to make it rate products instead of focusing on its core asset, the USENET.
So many companies ***** themselves by listening to the old guard, who have no business in the Internet culture. You can't create something online with paper pushers. - wilf_brim, on 10/23/2007, -0/+6Most of these (save toys.com) have one thing in common. A business model that leaves the average Joe saying "and you are going to make money on that how?" Simple works better. Example: Newegg.
- SmilingJess, on 10/23/2007, -0/+5A great set of examples of what not to do if you find yourself being offered hundreds of millions in VC funding.
The article makes a great point when it says that many great ideas will never see the light of day because of the horrible missteps. - pennvneff, on 10/23/2007, -0/+3I miss Kosmo.com, I thought that company really had a lot of potential. I used them a lot back when I lived in LA, they were just like Pink Dot except they had a lot more stuff.
- AJRiddle, on 10/23/2007, -2/+5SPOILER:
They gave it all to Tech N9ne - gubin09, on 10/23/2007, -1/+3I remember Kozmo.com and at first I thought, "Cool! Anything I want to my door with free delivery!" But then reason set in and I drove to the 7-11.
- zeejay, on 10/23/2007, -0/+2Buried for being an information-free rehash of the 500 other articles about high-flying dot-bombs that have been covered ad nauseam for years.
- aaronm67, on 10/23/2007, -0/+2There are like 50 political articles a day that reach the front page, you can't keep your comments to those?
- Ebeach, on 10/23/2007, -0/+1Buried. Did you even watch it? Start-up is all about govworks.com. Good movie tho
- stickywheelz, on 11/06/2007, -0/+1Is national pay day trolling rehashed articles to get digg users to take advantage of their excellent pay day loan interest rates? WTF? Bury this.
- JD52, on 10/23/2007, -0/+1If you are offered hundreds of millions in VC you first pay to have your head removed from your ass then get started.
- chrispen, on 10/23/2007, -0/+1Ya, my guess is this is link bait for the loan company...looks like they tricked us!
- TroubleInMind, on 10/23/2007, -0/+1Talking sense to anyone in this business is like pissing into an ocean of piss. Greed trumps sensibility every time.
Which is why this business is made of frickin win. - UrbanOne, on 10/23/2007, -0/+1Um, yup. Pretty much.
- SPRFRKR, on 10/23/2007, -0/+1I do too, but it is such an obscure reference, I can't see how people watching the commercials would put the reference together.
He now peddles insurance where if you get in an accident, they won't increase premiums. Ending with "everyone deserves a second chance". Sox got his second chance a the rep for the company and you get a second chance with their insurance. brilliant. But, who would know that? - Ebeach, on 10/23/2007, -0/+1Heh. Nostalgia. Good stuff. I literally lived off of them when I was in Boston. The sub shop directly underneath my apartment was a drop point. To this day I still see people walking around with those orange coats. Damn.
- meshman, on 10/23/2007, -0/+1"bubble 1.0"
*sigh* Buried. - rz8472, on 10/23/2007, -0/+1To paraphrase a semi-famous TV commercial...
"But eggsbymail.com was such a great idea!" - DCGaymer, on 10/23/2007, -0/+1/sing Would you like to have something to eat....would you like to have something to eat.
- thermocline, on 10/23/2007, -0/+0Another worth noting, Living.com: http://www.contextmag.com/archives/200102/Feature3 ...
- mason55, on 10/23/2007, -2/+2Uhh is anyone else a little skeptical of the motivation for this article, based on the last 2 sentences ("In this list alone, almost $2.5 billion was lost. Money that could have been better spent than in the risky world of venture capital.") and the fact that this is a website for a Payday Advance loan company?
- aceslick911, on 10/23/2007, -1/+1excellent read. really slaps u back to reality that you need more than money to make money!
- JayInOhio, on 10/23/2007, -1/+0I bought a VHS copy of StartUp.com at the dollar store which is all about the Kosmo story.... it's very interesting and a must see (especially for a buck) if you're interested in dotcom busts. http://www.amazon.com/Startup-com-Kaleil-Isaza-Tuz ...
- silvernote, on 10/23/2007, -2/+1Always an interesting read - the mysteries continue!
- Spanq, on 11/04/2007, -2/+1This is ***** spam. Buried.
- inactive, on 10/23/2007, -5/+0Play Wall Street like a bubble machine!
