- LarryLacuna, on 02/08/2009, -4/+60It's going to get worse before it gets better, with or without the stimulus package.
- inactive, on 02/08/2009, -11/+47Here's what I expect to happen next: more partisan whining and pissing matches. As there was this morning on MTP.
- AWBoy666, on 02/09/2009, -8/+42How about we not spend another $800B that we'll have to borrow from China?
- alamedaman, on 02/09/2009, -13/+45Here's what happens: this bill doesn't do jack *****, just like the last ones. How about we NOT spend this *****.
- schnikies79, on 02/09/2009, -9/+38No more deficit spending.
- Striker101, on 02/08/2009, -36/+65Spending our way out of bankruptcy, how insane has our USSA become!
Pissing ON, not about, stimulus insanity is a moral cause. - Renfamous, on 02/09/2009, -10/+33Sen. Collins (202) 224-2523

I'll be calling until the second that ***** sandwich passes and anyone else who wants to make a difference and have their voice heard should do the same. - inactive, on 02/09/2009, -15/+36Sweet, another bailout from our ***** politicians (yes, Obama too) who don't listen to us. Robbing the cradle still...
- inactive, on 02/09/2009, -8/+28Spending is NOT the solution.
And assuming that 90% of Digg users are ages 15-30, I hope you know that we're going to be the ones paying for this bill in the future, not the people passing the bill. - khaosx2030, on 02/09/2009, -15/+34Hooray Obama! Hooray change! Hooray inflation!
/s - analogkid01, on 02/09/2009, -3/+22...Except that it's quite similar to "USSR"...
- rz8472, on 02/09/2009, -12/+30Thanks for showing that you have absolutely no idea what the definition of communism actually is.
- inactive, on 02/08/2009, -6/+22well, for the good of the US and the world, I hope this works out and soon!
What I hate about all this issues is that I just got my MBA and I just spent nK euros learning something that doesn't works :S - iceblizz, on 02/09/2009, -7/+22Spare some Change.
- sockpuppets, on 02/09/2009, -0/+14Maybe he's a snake.
- dancenhance, on 02/08/2009, -14/+27It won't pass yet, because this bill doesn't have enough pork. Grow little piggy, grow!
- ryan83189, on 02/09/2009, -3/+14That would require responsibility and living within our means. If this economic situation has taught us anything, it it that that is quite impossible on the household, corporate and government level.
- geoffg, on 02/09/2009, -4/+15Why stop at 1 trillion, why not make it 5 or 10?
- inactive, on 02/09/2009, -6/+17Who cares what will happen next. We all know the end result will be the same -- unless you have lobbyists in the halls of congress, you're screwed.
- JeffMcKamey, on 02/09/2009, -4/+15If 1 Trillion dollars is going to help the economy, wouldn't 4 Trillion help it four times better?
- wreckosaurus, on 02/09/2009, -4/+14Tax cuts are the only solution, it's worked perfectly the last two times the republicans did it. And clearly, the best way to create jobs is to give tax breaks to people who are already employed and are more than likely to save the money than spend it.
/s - Nintendesert, on 02/09/2009, -4/+14I'll tell you what happens next: In one year we're going to wonder where all these hundreds of billions of dollars got pissed away at. Just like the last stimulus package.
- freshgrease, on 02/09/2009, -8/+18What no legalization of weed to pay for the ***** bailout?
- peestandingup, on 02/09/2009, -0/+10He's Cobra Commander. Don't make fun of his speech impediment.
- homercles337, on 02/09/2009, -2/+12Thanks for showing that you have absolutely no knowledge of economics or history.
- ralphodog, on 02/09/2009, -2/+12Oh, so I'm allowed to play then? This stimulus package is an awful idea; it gained support because of early conversations with top economists that supported a perfect stimulus package. Keep in mind many of these economists were the same ones who said a housing boom would never happen because the transaction costs were too high. The final product is very far from what was initially supported, and even further from what a separate group of economists (Feldstein and crew) supported.
- Bloodwine, on 02/09/2009, -1/+10You do realize that the first bailout (TARP) really hasn't fixed a thing, right?
The only way a spending package will revive the economy is if everybody involved is on the up-and-up and use the monies for the right reasons and in the right ways. A lot of the first bailout's money was wasted and misused.
I also remember the huge urgency and scare tactics that were used to rush the first bailout through. Look at us now, credit is still frozen, unemployment is cranking up faster than ever, and the bottom isn't in sight yet. - simplyintricate, on 02/09/2009, -0/+9Actually economics is a difficult subject. That's the reason why we have different schools of thought!
- wreckosaurus, on 02/09/2009, -7/+15that's the worst idea I've ever, ever heard. Are you joking?
- wreckosaurus, on 02/09/2009, -14/+22The stupid is strong with this thread.
- newfrickinshow, on 02/09/2009, -4/+12I'm with wreckosaurus. Is there some sort of button I can go further with than just digg up and digg down? You know, like some sort of "WTF" or "That doesn't even make sense button. Might not be a bad idea for the start of this thread.
- homah, on 02/09/2009, -4/+12Many of the items in this so-called stimulus package are clearly not short-term stimuli. I would ditch this thing entirely, cut unnecessary spending (bringing troops home from around the world, etc.) and lower taxes. Obviously, not everyone will agree with that plan, but you must at least agree that most of the current package has nothing to do with short-term stimulation of the economy, right?
By the way, I think both political parties are ridiculous. The Democrats for some of the items they have added to this thing and the Republicans for feigning conservatism not even months after insta-passing $600 billion with TARP. - rotundo, on 02/09/2009, -5/+12I know this sounds crazy, but the problem right now is "not spending". People are spending less, so companies make less, so they hire fewer people, so people have less to spend. It's a vicious cycle.
The idea behind the stimulus is that the government is big enough to spend while everyone else is holding. That spending will get people working, which will get them spending again, so the companies make more money, so they hire more people, so they spend more.
Yes, sounds like a big circle-jerk, right? That's exactly what the economy is, and it was working quite well, But right now nobody's jerking, and somebody has to get it started again. The government is going to try.
If you've got another plan on how to do it, I'm all ears. - inactive, on 02/09/2009, -2/+9sometimes, maybe. Not now. Not for another yera and a half. The country will not fix itself naturally if left to itself for 18 more months. You will see unemployment rates hovering in the mid 20s. Explain to me how that will be good for anyone.
You guys DO realize that massive spending is what got us out of the Depression, right? - Ne007, on 02/09/2009, -3/+10I wonder if they are working on the next one yet.......
- uptown, on 02/09/2009, -1/+8I want a pony. Is that in the stimulus bill?
- wreckosaurus, on 02/09/2009, -4/+11Forget about your ridiculous tax cuts. Pass the bill now, and put the money into infrastructure, energy, and job creation.
- booksnmore4you, on 02/09/2009, -18/+25Here's a novel idea for Diggers.
UNLESS you have a PhD in economics, STFU WITH YOUR PONTIFICATING ABOUT WHAT SHOULD OR SHOULD NOT HAPPEN.
I find it very telling that none of the GOP members of congress have this, and none are CITING economists in their own pontificating for more stupid-ass inane tax cuts. - wreckosaurus, on 02/09/2009, -2/+8You're of course referring to bush's tax rebate this summer. Yes, I agree, tax cuts should not be part of the stimulus.
- inactive, on 02/09/2009, -5/+11Great idea. People are dumb. Yes our solution to get debt free is to spend more? Great idea. Please someone enlighten me how printing money we dont have will solve these problems? Peter Schiff is right.
- momomathew, on 02/09/2009, -3/+9Nice Fear Mongering, listen to Barney Frank this morning did we?
- spyd3rweb, on 02/09/2009, -2/+8Yes because the idiots with PhDs running things now are doing such an outstanding job.
- newfrickinshow, on 02/09/2009, -4/+10I would point out one side note that I think is worth mentioning. Tax cuts give a little bit of money to people who already have some. Spending that creates jobs (like public works spending, hiring teachers and cops, construction projects, road and bridge construction, laying sod, etc) gives money to people who are out of work and have very little and ends up with a greater stimulus effect on the economy. This also gets them off welfare or unemployment for a while and here's the kicker: these people are now WORKING and earning an INCOME, thus they are now subject to paying INCOME TAXES. Which means they'll be paying in a fair percentage BACK to their federal and state government. Add this all up and it ends in greater economic stimulation at a cheaper price tag.
- jorazzle, on 02/09/2009, -6/+11I'm a digg user with two degrees in economics and I certainly say the bailout and this bill is a bad idea. But I didn't need a PhD to figure that out.
- homercles337, on 02/09/2009, -9/+14Before the repugs starting whining about more tax cuts--that have been shown to *not* work--the "pork" was about 2%. Do you even know what pork is, or are you just parroting what you hear on your rabid right-wing misinformed radio and Faux News?
- rotundo, on 02/09/2009, -0/+5I've never been high and I don't want to be high. But I am 100% sure we'd be better off not wasting our resources on marijuana prohibition. And we need all the resources we can get right now.
- dieboldcracy, on 02/09/2009, -0/+5you can't kick anyone out of office anymore. When the bond market collapses, so does the dollar, and there is no stimulating out of that mess
- uptown, on 02/09/2009, -0/+5It's hard out there for a pimp.....
- inactive, on 02/09/2009, -5/+10This stimulus package WILL FAIL....EPIC ***** FAIL.
and I dont have a PhD...but ***** you anyway. - novenator, on 02/09/2009, -0/+5wreckosaurus, thx for playing the voice of reason here, even though the a-holes will bury you for it
