- walker4bc, on 04/30/2009, -0/+31Given that we are all paying for AIG to stay alive, you would think they could be a bit more reasonable with our veterans. Geez...
- AmyVernon, on 04/30/2009, -0/+31This is, frankly, criminal. Or it should be.
- MayorMcCheapo, on 04/30/2009, -1/+24When am I going to hear news about AIG that doesn't make me want to THROW UP!
- 1x253, on 04/30/2009, -0/+21Whadaya call it when someone betrays their own civilian population for profit in fatal or tragically life-changing ways during a time of war, as the result of a war?
WAR PROFITEERS!!!
Yeah, that's the term. These AIG guys are war profiteers, traitors to the American people. - sb66, on 04/30/2009, -1/+15But but private health care is still best, right?
American health care = sad joke - Vidalia, on 04/30/2009, -1/+15Can we just ctrl alt delete them?
- getoffmybridge, on 05/05/2009, -0/+13Yeah hi, I'm a member of a large group of people who have just involuntarily loaned AIG a sub-*****-stantial amount of money, and as a return on my investment, I'd like to see these individuals treated immediately. Thanks so much!
- ClipSet, on 04/30/2009, -1/+13Privatization makes everything better !
- Canadian0207, on 04/30/2009, -2/+13Another reason why our healthcare system is broken
- asgardshill, on 04/30/2009, -1/+12Caveat: I'm not here to assert that AIG doesn't eat all the dicks - far from it. They do indeed gobble down every pee pee, schlong and errant sprig of wilted manhood within a 500-mile radius, with relish.
But this is precisely what all insurance companies do - desperately attempt to find every little loophole, whereas and wherefore they possibly can to keep from paying out any money they can avoid paying out. That's just the nature of the beast, and you don't get to be a bloated, inefficient megacorporation that throws parties on the French Riviera and pays multi-million dollar bonuses to your loyal apparachik by happily writing checks to all and sundry. AIG wasn't the first insurance company to pull this sort of crap, and they certainly won't be the last. - AlKo, on 04/30/2009, -0/+9"What is 'why do we not have universal healthcare' Alex..." I'll take...
- messiahb, on 04/30/2009, -2/+11The Iraq war was created to make companies money why does this shock anyone.
- Frumbler, on 04/30/2009, -0/+8And they did pay in good faith, then got screwed.
- sangjmoon, on 04/30/2009, -0/+8AIG has always had this practice of selling insurance that they have no intention of honoring. This is not news. The only news should be that the government is not trying to sell of parts of AIG until it isn't too big to fail and then cutting the cord.
- 1x253, on 04/30/2009, -1/+9
It's treasonous.
They have KNOWINGLY undermined our country that belongs to 300 million citizens PURELY for profit. They have worked against the American people and hurt them immeasurably (it's not just money that's been lost), they did it on purpose and they did it for money.
They are our Benedict Arnold. - getoffmybridge, on 05/05/2009, -0/+6You want to log in to them?
- absolutelytrue, on 05/26/2009, -1/+7I wish I could say this is surprising, but it's not. AIG routinely screws people over. All the large insurance companies have game plans to reduce what they pay out. It is a filthy business.
- inactive, on 04/30/2009, -1/+7Grr, I hate big business... Why doesn't the government do something about it? Oh wait, they are ran by big business...
- FairDinkumMate, on 04/30/2009, -0/+6If you can't see the relationship sb66 then I think we know who the moron is......
- SexyGeekGirl, on 04/30/2009, -0/+6this is sad. To give your life and service to the country and be treated this way?
- inactive, on 04/30/2009, -1/+7Hey what do they expect? Go to war for your country to keep big business safe to screw you over that's the American way. Privitized medicine IS the way to go you don't want those wounded dead beats to be getting free medicine HELL NO USA USA USA
/s - ILikePants, on 04/30/2009, -1/+6They're not veterans--they're mercenaries.
- athinnes, on 10/01/2009, -0/+5So as an advocate of universal healthcare is he still supporting this?
- Bloodwine, on 04/30/2009, -1/+6Isn't Obama wanting to give veterans the "option" of using private insurance? It's stories like this that probably makes most vets cling to the V.A.
- deathspeth, on 04/30/2009, -0/+5The people who run the company?
- fury420, on 04/30/2009, -0/+4so, why do you guys continue to support your current private health-insurance coverage system again? seems like such a waste to be paying so much money to mere middlemen for "heath care" when they do not actually provide any health related services, merely facilitate payment to those that do. VISA does that too, and their merchant rate is only like 2%...
Well... we have governments that could do the same thing far more efficiently, considering the required mechanisms for funding & money distribution are already in place for taxes & medicare...
Health care in the USA would be far cheaper for all involved if there was not a redundant for-profit primary-care insurance industry sucking up 20-25% of the costs, while providing little to nothing for the money... - Bravetiger, on 04/30/2009, -1/+5The insult to injury or injuries and death is the fact that AIG gets compensated from the government through the defense base act. A large portion of those reparations seldom see the families affected. Here is a link to an audio slideshow I produced about one of the wives affected.
http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la- ... - mparker21311, on 04/30/2009, -0/+4I'm a big free market/low taxes type of guy. But I tell you one thing, nothing makes me want to scream for socialism more than dealing with my health insurance company.
- edwurtle, on 04/30/2009, -0/+4They paid for large premiums out of their paycheck and now AIG is screwing them over. It has NOTHING to do with salary. In addition what's the cost of losing a leg or other severe trauma? Medical bills can easily reach the millions, so until they make 7 figure salaries, insurance is still needed (especially in a war zone). They were paying for this "needed" health care insurance, and now they are getting screwed by the insurance company.
- fury420, on 04/30/2009, -0/+4yeah, privatization for "cost savings" is the biggest scam ever. How introducing profit for a private company into a situation where there was no profit before will save money is beyond me....
the actual workers get treated like absolute *****, with inadequate training, rock bottom pay and limited benefits compared to the same positions before privatization. meanwhile hospital standards slip, people don't give a rat's ass about cleanliness or protocols because they're only making $11 an hour... all while the fleet of privatized managers make 3-4x as much while doing little to nothing. People deserve more than $11 an hour to clean "death rooms", or isolation rooms contaminated with MRSA or other superbugs, and they really should have proper training before being asked to do so...
ahh privatization at work, isn't it great? - MacBookForMe, on 04/30/2009, -3/+6No comment...
- ILikePants, on 04/30/2009, -4/+7These are mercenaries who got hazard pay. Let them pay out of pocket from their six-figure salaries. Private health insurance *in general* is a bad system. But cry me a ***** river.
- reeds1999, on 04/30/2009, -0/+3As long as health insurance is a for profit business, this will continue.
- Frumbler, on 04/30/2009, -0/+3Try to enlist at 44 years of age. KBR will take you though, until you get injured that is.
- Jlaugh, on 04/30/2009, -0/+3If Canada's government can do it with efficiently ours can. If you expect that it can only suck it will.
- athinnes, on 10/01/2009, -0/+3If anyone seriously believes AIG is doing this because of the bailout, they are big time mistaken.
- vdubplate, on 04/30/2009, -0/+3The whole company should commit suicide!
Either that or get burned at the stake - inactive, on 04/30/2009, -0/+2i rather sudo rm -rf them
- trogdor1289, on 04/30/2009, -0/+2oh noes universal health care! It does not work as well as everyone seems to wish and pray it does. Having used it for at least 15 years in the UK, the mess that would be a US system boggles the mind.
- Frumbler, on 05/02/2009, -0/+2"Whadaya call it when someone betrays their own civilian population for profit"
Please name that someone? Oh you mean AIG the company?
I challange you to find one person you could pin this on and make it stick.
Do you really think anybody at the company will be punished for this. No the company will be fined because it's the "company" that did the wrongdoing in the eyes of the law.
Company personhood is BS was the point I poorly was trying to make. And all the individuals themselves at the company feel no responsibility for this, because it's the "company" doing this, which is the whole problem. Companies have no souls. - NJank, on 04/30/2009, -0/+2or bring up the option to terminate the process.
- Stingwolf, on 04/30/2009, -0/+1Very sad, but very true.
- Hillsfar, on 05/01/2009, -0/+1Most of the money given to AIG was given under the aegis of the Bush Administration. While TARP money was voted in by Congress, including Obama, oversight was in the hands of the Treasury and the government.
Yes, Obama is wrong to continue to give to AIG. But if you were really outraged about it, you'd be blaming Bush more. Instead, you're just proving that you're a *****. Emphasis on the 3rd through 6th characters. - samson362, on 05/01/2009, -0/+1I had the dis pleasure of dealing with AIG once. Not only did I have to wait over six weeks for a surgery that would have been easy if done right away but, I had to fight with the lousy pieces of ***** to pay me right. They still have neglected to pay one very valid claim that now shows up on my credit report as a bad debt. ROT IN ***** HELL EVERY SINGLE AIG PIECE OF SCUM.
- LonesomeFighter, on 04/30/2009, -0/+1Well, it's a good thing the mercenaries usually get paid six figure salaries.
- inactive, on 05/01/2009, -0/+1 Yup,sounds like an insurance company all right...Oh,btw,there is no hell.
- Frumbler, on 05/02/2009, -0/+1bleah
- Jlaugh, on 04/30/2009, -0/+1In our country is there any difference between big government and big business, the bureaucrats go from one to the other like a seamless whole.
- 8FoldPath, on 05/03/2009, -0/+1"But this is precisely what all insurance companies do - desperately attempt to find every little loophole, whereas and wherefore they possibly can to keep from paying out any money they can avoid paying out."
That's why heavy regulation is needed on the industry. Insurance can seem to many like a big scam. -
