Germans refuse to drink "king of beers" Budweiser at the World cup
cbsnews.com — Anheuser-Busch paid $40 million for "pouring rights" at 12 stadiums across Germany, something Germans and tourists have had trouble swallowing.

""Human dignity is inviolable," reads the Web site, quoting the German constitution. The Web site goes on to call Budweiser "an insult to all true beer lovers" and an "insult to your tongue.""
Absolutely hilarious! Hey, when youre right, youre right. I always look for an opportunity to tell this joke: American beer is like having sex in a canoe. Its f**king close to water.- elamr, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20I didn't like beer until I went to Stutgart, Germany and had beer
- BobbyOnions, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11I worked in Stuttgart for a few months. Loved it.
Noch ein bier bitte!
Ein mass vom vass bitte!
Dinkel Acker ist zehr gut!
Apologies to 80,000,000 Germans for my horrible German :D - buk110, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10I'm going to agree with you on this one. The big two in US beer; that being Miller and Coors aren't all that great. The only 'American' Beer I'll drink is Yuengling Lagger. When it comes to other stuff Blue Moon Belgian White [a Wheat Ale] is my drink of choice.
Oh Miller would have been all over this but Man Law clearly states it shall never be in a World Cup commercial - skyshock21, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13I can't say I blame the Germans. We hate that crap here in America too! But everyone knows the best beers come from Belgium. ;)
I'm a HUGE fan of Koningshoeven Trappist Ale. - elamr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11MGD = tree bark + water
Heineken = bitter bark
Coors = ass
Bud = ass lite
Bud lite = tolerable
While in Germany I had something everyone was called "Crystal Vyson" (sorry, my german is non existant). After Crystal Vyson, I realized why germans love beer so much... they have mastered and refined it. You see, up to that point all the so called "beer" I had tasted was like reconstitued piss in a 40oz.. not that I know what Urine tastes like but I bet it tastes like most American beer. - LudicrousSpeed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I can sympathize with the Germans... try attending an MLB game in the US and paying $7 for a lousy 12 oz. plastic cup of this dishwater!
- elamr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Hey – taking Budweiser to Germany is like taking an anchovy to a steak and ribs bar-b-que!!!!!!! UGH!!!!!!!!!
- elamr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5All this talk about beer is making me thirsty.
- Necromancyr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Hrm can't reply to second levels of posts. Anyway, just an FYI but Blue Moon is made by Coors.
Just FYI. (So they CAN make good beer, the 'majority' of American's just dont want it...) - EvlD99, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7There are plenty of great American Beers such as Sam Adams, Magic Hat, Harpoon, Long Trail, etc. It's just that these breweries don't have the clout to help sponsor the World Cup.
If you haven't had good American beer, it's your own fault for not looking. - dcipjr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Budweiser is crap, I don't know why most Americans like it so much. Yuengling is great, and is without a doubt my domestic beer of choice (their Black & Tan is exceptional), but it's hard to get outside Pennsylvania and some of the neighboring states.
- Momoru, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2They LOVE the stuff in Ireland though, home of Guniess. I'm not a big fan of any of the "international lagers" that are so popular (Stella Artois, Fosters, Budweiser) it all tastes the same. Germany makes some decent lagers and pilsners, but you still can't easily find beers in Europe as the excellent Microbrews we have in America like MagicHat, Sierra Nevada, and Victory.
- n00854180t, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I have to agree with the Germans, I'd rather have regular water than bittered, expensive Bud. Also, Sam Adams is THE American beer.
- theDrizzle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4come on, who didn't see this coming. There are tons of AMERICANS who hate Budweiser...what makes you think that a place like Germany, where beer is a part of their heritage and national pride, would like it any better. not to mention that the world cup is in GERMANY and not AMERICA...so why on earth was Budweiser even allowed to be the "official beer." its an insult to Germany, and it makes them hate us more, just what we need!!!
- BobbyOnions, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4> Crystal Vyson
Kristall Weisse - literally "crystal white", meaning clear beer, typically wheat beer.
This stuff really is the stuff of the gods: kristal weisse weinstephaner
You can buy it in the UK from most big supermarkets Franziskaner weissbier is better but slightly harder to come by. - krux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well that makes sense.. Germans are known for having good taste in beer.. and budweiser... well I to put it plainly, budweiser sucks. It's just not good. Really.
- grindcorefan, on 10/12/2007, -12/+2what's the issue? bud***** isn't the only bad yellow coloured water in the world. I though everyone knew that already ;-)
- CosmosGoddess, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15Well I don't blame them, it's their country that is hosting the World Cup. They should have a German beer for sale. Not the American Anheuser-Busch who spent 40 million to have the rights.
- Canthros, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11Yes. They should find a German beer that will pony up the 40 million dollars instead.
- rnelsonee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10It's not Germany's choice, it's FIFA's. And just like every other corporation out there, exclusivity can be purchased if a company has enough money. But I do feel bad for the Germans - Bud sucks, and beer from that part of the world is the best.
Too bad the Reinheitsgebot (purity law) has been amended so many times - as TFA states, it was actually illegal to sell Bud in Germany until the early 1990's because Budweiser uses ***** like corn as a source of fermentable sugar in their beer (little to no flavor, but adds alcohol) - a sixteenth-century law limited fermentable grains to barley and wheat. - cyberdork, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5As far as I know it is still illegal to sell Budweiser (or Bud) in Germany, because the product name Budweiser is registered by the Czech brewery of the city of Budweis. And the name 'Bud' is too similar to the popular German beer 'Bit' (Bitburger).
The reason why they can now sell 'Bud' at the venues is that Anheuser Busch allowed the German brewery Bitburger to advertise their 'Bit' beer during the matches, and in return Bitburger won't sue them for trademark violations. - j00fek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yeh, plus its probibly the worst beer ever made!
- CanuckMakem, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Can't blame them.... let me think... Dortmunder Kronen or Bud??? C'mon....
- gronne, on 10/12/2007, -2/+42I refuse to drink Budweiser and I'm in the USA.
- twiztedambience, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3That's because Miller rules. (Yes, I'm biased since I live in Milwaukee...)
- SentOne, on 10/12/2007, -1/+31self proclaimed "King of Beers"
Anyone who knows anything about beer knows that budweiser just sucks.- webcrumb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5It's one monarchy that deserves to be abolished...
Mmmm. regicide... - StinkyMonkeyCat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Large corp American beers suck the big one. Unfortunately, there are enough imbeciles without taste that continue to buy that over-promoted crap.
If bud, coors, michelob, etc. were the only beers left on Earth, I'd be switching to wine. - nstrupp2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I believe that many subscribe to the theory of quantity over quality. This is what makes AB beers sell so well. I think anyone that has had it will agree that Delirium (Belgian) is a great beer, but you can get a 12 pack of Bud for the price of 1 bottle of Delirium.
- webcrumb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5It's one monarchy that deserves to be abolished...
- ryanchristopher, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Hey, shiner bock is a damn good beer and it's made in the US.
- ,,|,_, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I live in Texas and people always list Shiner in the Imports category. Imported an hour and a half up the road to Austin maybe....
- jawngee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Shiner bock is the only american beer I drink.
ALL HAIL THE SHINER BOCK. - Ascendant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7There are lots of good beers made in the USA- unfortunately probably none of them are big enough to afford that $40 million.
- gronne, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I don't think anyone's saying American beer sucks. There are definitely some great ones. They're just saying the Macro brews like Bud, Coors, MGD suck.
- WolfwoodX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I almost completely abandon beer altogether, then I found Shiner. Everyone gets bud lite. I don't understand though, if everyone hates it, WHY THE ***** DO THEY STILL BUY IT?
- bob.os, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Lots of damn good beers from the US. There's a good chance that your local microbrewer makes one.
Buy your beer local, and you can't go wrong!
And if we're recommending beers:
Columbus Brewing Company: Columbus Pale Ale and 1859 Porter
Damn near anything from Stone Brewing in San Diego, but especially their Russian Imperial Stout and the famed Arrogant Bastard
Anything from the Great Dane in Madison, WI
Almost anything from Great Lakes Brewing Co, in Cleveland - jared9985, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yes, living about 45 mins away from Shiner, Texas I must say Shiner Bock is the only way to go. It truely does put all the other beers to shame. I need to send a 6 pack over to CA for diggnation
- SuperGhost, on 10/12/2007, -14/+5Well damn, I sometimes drink Bud Light. I'm not proud of it but Man Law says beer is beer. And it gets the job done.
- perogi21, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Man Law??
Stick that retarded commercial up your ass. Those knobs in the commercial are hardly men. - jaxxstorm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2but thats the point. Bud light isn't beer. Its bud light
- perogi21, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Man Law??
- Tarantulus, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17Budwieser is what rednecks piss after too much cheap bourbon
- MyDigitalSin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I'm not even sure if Germany sells Budweiser. There are thousands of brewreys in Germany all with a different taste and made differently. Why should they sell imported "beer" when everyone already loves the local beer?
Bud (and American beer) sucks. I drink import. - timothdd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6i personally like the fact that law had to be changed in order to sell that piss-water in germany...
- jboi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+26here we go
Miller + Budweiser decide (secretly) to find out forever, which beer
is the NO 1 TASTE IN THE US. So they send in anonymous nonlabeled beer
samples to the best laboratory in the world.
Secret conference: theprofessor picks up a bulk of paper, and starts "Basically,...". He is stopped
rudely, and the two bosses say: Just give us Your final report.
Well, says the professor: BOTH HORSES HAVE DIABETES. - npinski, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14even americans who know their ass from their elbow when it comes to beer don't drink budweiser.
Here in canada we love to claim that "american beer sucks" and yet the small microbrewery stuff in the states is as good as any. Get me some Arrogant Bastard ale any day! ;)
But it's the same with ANY "big-market" beer. Budweiser is one of the worst american beers. Molson Canadian is one of the worst canadian beers. Heineken is one of the worst german beers. Stella Artois is one of the worst belgian beers. This is all my opinion of course - and i actually love Stella out of all of those. But the smaller breweries always have a better product.- MattLat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18Here's to microbreweries - giving beer a good name.
- Butros, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9"Heineken is one of the worst german beers." Um... Didn't we take Holland away from Germany after WW2?
- IrishmanVT, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Heineken is Dutch buddy, get the facts straight.
- sohyphy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Germans truly do make great beer when the worst German beer is actually Dutch
- dizzley, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Heineken is NOT German it's Dutch and it's fine swaffing beer in Holland. But we must all agree that taking Bud to Germany was an insult to taste buds everywhere. Of course, I'm a biased English guy and we have, say, 200+ beers better than Bud. Come to think of it, most of our lager beers are a mile better than Bud. I have in my possession a bottle of "Bekkambrau" from the Storm Brewing co. of Macclesfield and I will be drinking it as soon as England win the World Cup. Mmm... think I might drink it if they get knocked out which is more likely. Bekkambrau is not just a joke but is a lager based beer in the German style - ideal for a bender!
- lerinlas, on 10/12/2007, -10/+3I'm sure I'll be buried for saying this, but... I've had both and I've got to say that they have their place. German beers are good when you want a hearty beer. Budweiser's good when you want something light and refreshing or just want to get F'd up without getting full. I do enjoy a good Bud before dinner sometimes, but with dinner I'd love a pint from the Haufbrau.
- MattLat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8No suprise there. Budweiser: King of beers for rednecks. (I think it's hilarious when I hear people argue whether miller or bud is better)
Life's too precious to drink that crap. - securemind, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7did they really think they could sway Europeans to drink Bud? It's just no comparison to beer from Germany, and shows a good amount of arrogance (or ignorance?) on the part of Anheuser-Busch. Now, if it was "real" Budweiser, from Budvar.... ;-)
- UltraNurd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4There are tons of regional microbrews in the U.S. that are in my experience competitive in quality with some of the best Belgian and German beers. Victory (West Chester, PA) and Dogfish Head (Rehoboth, DE) are among my favorites. Their brewery tours are also quite fun.
- MattLat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5You should look into some of the microbrews that come out of New Glarus, Wisconsin. They've got an ale named "Spotted cow" that's absolutely wonderful.
- markgl, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3anything microbrew most of the time is very tasty.
- TEMM, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If you are ever in Atlantic Canada make sure to try out Picaroons beers, Especially the Dooryard Organic Wheat Beer in the summer and Winter Warmer in the winter.
- ccheath, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4MAGIC HAT, BURLINGTON VERMONT
- *Ica*, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Becks is the way to go in Germany. Its probably the most popular beer over there, and its very popular here in the UK. For anyone that wants something a bit lighter whilst in Germany, dont resort to Bud try Becks Gold instead.
- halleyscomet, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15The German hatred of American Budweiser runs deeper than the quality of the beer.
Budweiser US was founded by a German immigrant to the US. He stole the name of a (then) 100 plus year old brewery and used a slightly altered slogan when he started up in the US. The German Budweiser, "The Beer of Kings" was the subject of a buyout attempt by the American Budweiser "The King of Beers" a few years ago. A legal battle and public uproar ensued as the German government was considering legislation to block the sale.
It seems trademark infringement laws meant the only way Budweiser US could sell beer in Germany was to use a different name or to buy the German company.
In the end, Bud US agreed to drop the attempt to buy the German company, if they were allowed to sell beer in German under the Budweiser name. Contracts were signed and a deal was stuck.
And now, after much wailing and gnashing of teeth, the Germans are finding their local Budweiser replaced with the American "Lemonaid." This is about ten years after a national movement to keep the American beer out of the country, where it was trying to eradicate a local brewery to do so.
I imagine the Germans see Budweiser US the same way many Americans see Wal-Mart, a corporate Borg out to destroy the local businesses in the name of uniform mediocrity.- domr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Interesting - except Budweiser is Czech, not German.
- cyberdork, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"I imagine the Germans see Budweiser US the same way many Americans see Wal-Mart"
No we don't, because we only know budweiser from vacations to the US or from American movies.
And I don't know which contracts you are refering to. But you still can't buy Bud in Germany. Mainly because the name Bud is too similar to the popular German beer "Bit'. As I mentioned above, Anheuser Busch has an agreement with Bitburger about selling their beers at the World Cup venues. And when the World Cup is over Budweiser will be gone again. But I could be wrong about that. - fquednau, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5As a German, I can't really agree with that. It's simply sad to sell >Budweiser< in >Germany< during such an event. Period. I do hope that most guests here in germany will come to drink some of the local brews...
...I am glad and relieved, though, that many comments refer to german beer as being one of the best around!
- elamr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7That is pretty ballsy to put that American piss in land of Beer and Hasselhoff.
- markgl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Bud is so large it uses rice instead of grain for their beer. Cheaper, the main reason. But I'd have to say that Germany probably has some awesome beer and lets face it, the macro American beer is mediocre compare to other beers out there in the world.
- r00t3d0ut, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I once had a German girlfriend who commented that Budweiser tasted like water.
- treo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0well, it doesn't taste like water, it tastes like something that stood some days near a brewery
If it's up to me, I say "Eisgrub Bräu" FTW
- treo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0well, it doesn't taste like water, it tastes like something that stood some days near a brewery
- londoneconomist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I rarely see Budweiser, or any cheap American lagers for sale even at San Francisco bars. We're lucky to have so many awesome micro brews along the West coast. The only time I've really seen people drinking Budweiser (or PBR, Schlitz, etc) is in the Mission, where the one-speed bicycle hipsters drink it as a joke. I'd recommend the following beers to anyone: Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier, Boont Amber Ale, and Schneider Weisse Aventinus Doppelbock.
http://www.brauerei-weihenstephan.de/index.php?page=hefeWb_2_1

- powpow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I went to games at Munich and Stuggart, and the beer totally sucked. After drinking excellent German Weis beer in the beer gardens, the Bud at the stadiums was a total disappointment. Kudos to the Germans though for the reusable beer cups.
- jiltedcitizen, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0A bunch of people drank Bud in Ireland when I was there. Bud Lite FTW.
- Haapi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah, I've heard that, too. Drinking Bud in the land o' Guiness! A sign of the coming apocalypse.
- jaxxstorm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1thats because Guiness and Budweiser are completely different. Budweiser is what we British call lager, and guiness is...well....guiness! Closer to Bitter really
- sarusa, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4"It's difficult for even German beers to grow in certain areas of Germany because there are so many local beers," said [A-B Exec] Ponturo. "There are so many options, and they take pride in that."
And of course we'd like to CRUSH THAT LIKE A BUG.
It's just too bad American beer is considered to be Budweiser when outside of Belgium they have the best selection of good beers on the planet. - eluusive, on 10/12/2007, -19/+1It seems we have a case of extreme beer facism here. People, people, beer is like sex: there's no such thing as a bad one. Budweiser is cheap, and does the job.
- powpow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Wrong. After you drink good beer around the world, you realize that Bud and Miller Lite etc. really are bad beers.
- PhelixTheKhat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Relating it to your original statement...then I guess bud is like a $2 whore?
Bud then tastes like hooker spit. - chriz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Don't agree:
Would you rather like to have sex with angelina jolie or with an ugly girl from your neighborhood?
BTW: there IS bad sex - cdahlkvist, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"Budweiser is cheap, and does the job."
You must realize that comment most likely came from a 12 year old who drinks beer to get drunk rather than actually realizing the wonderful taste of beer.
I've noticed a lot of my friends that "hate the taste of beer" have only ever tried the Buds and Millers. Once I introduce them to beers with flavor (Leinenkugel's, Summit, Victory, Gordon Biersch & Sierra Nevada just to name a few) they all end up loving and appreciating beer.
For the record, I usually piss something that tastes more like beer than Budweiser does. I'm glad people outside the U.S. do realize that it's only our big, national breweries that are making crap beer and that we really do have some of the best beers in the world thanks to all our microbreweries. - noclothes1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Beer lovers know that this is complete *****. Go mow your lawn and drink a bottle of Hefeweizen, then next week mow it and drink a Bud, you'll see.
this is the best thread ever. A bunch a of dudes arguing over which obscure beer is the best. Most micros are good. most macros suck! except PBR
- Hildy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Evian must have been disappointed to lose the water sales to Budweiser...
Wouldn't you try to curb hooliganism by serving bud and keeping the crowd sober? I'm surprised Budweiser had to pay FIFA instead of FIFA paying bud for crowd control. - RevHelix, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Alexander Keiths!
- dmclone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Beer made by the trappist monks is the best I've ever had and I've had many. It's not something you want to chug though. Bud workes fine for me in my beer bong.
- UltraNurd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If you are in the Philadelphia area, you must go to Monk's - for some Belgian beers, it is the only place in America that serves them.
- dmclone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I can get Belgian beer in Iowa. We even have a Belgian only bar.
- sixlocal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Uh, there's quite a few Belgian beer bars in New York.
- leaknoil, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Only problem is the money goes fast drinking Belgian beer. Stuff is as expensive as it is good.
- snodgrass, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1There is another Budweiser that is not bad. It is called Czechvar. It is run by a Budweiser family in the Czech Republic. They are, of course, being sued for trademark infringement by the American corporation.
Go out and buy a 6-Pack of Czechvar today. It is one of my favorite beers.- treo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I like it aswell, but I think it tastes like bread :)
- SXsBPJ04, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2a.k.a. BUDWEISER BUDVAR...
- Character0, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Most macro beers will tend to suck. That is just a simple fact. However, there are several tasty beer made in the U.S. it just takes some exploring. A good place to find some quality beer is www.beeradvocate.com . Dogfish Head is one of my personal favorites that I would recommend to anyone.
- PhelixTheKhat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The only american beer I like isn't bud...that's for sure.
Go imported stuff :) - Elohir, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1When I was young we had Budweiser draught in the bar I worked in (in the UK) , and it was actually better than most of the generic imports we had like Becks, Heineken et al. Of course, it's a lager, not a beer.
- megabozz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2They're all wrong. Unpasteurized Guinness draught is the best beer in the world.
- Zyzzyva100, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I don't blame the Germans either. Only being 22, I didn't find my beer niche until recently. One thing I did know, however, is that I don't like Bud. There are plenty of other cheap beers if I just want to get drunk, but does anyone actually enjoy Bud for the taste? I mean, I would rather just drink 5% ethanol in water.
- dcipjr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Hell, even 10% ethanol in gasoline would be better.
- Drizzit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Screw Shiner Bock. Zigen Bock is only sold in Texas and is made by germans..
Still I love having a central market nearby. Best selections of import beers in any grocery store. Better than any beer store around here as well. - mojo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Ewww....American beer :-)
- heavyness, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2if Bud is paying all this money, why is it all i see is Guinness ads during half time during the games?
update : German hate piss pour tasting watered-down beer... as does EVERYONE outside of the US. - artman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@UltraNurd
I live a block away from Monks. Though I'm on a tight budget I will go there and have a Hoegaarden now and then. Great food too. Know the owner Fergie as well. Though most Philadelphians know of him for his chain of restaurants he writes a very funny column in the weekly paper here.
http://www.monkscafe.com/ - teamparadox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Can you really blame them? Bud is like drinking fizzy dishwater, its a terrible beer and it should be banished from existance. Its only around because its cheap enough that alcoholics everywhere can buy a case of it everyday without going broke.
- chimona, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1alcoholics prefer forties. high school and college kids drink bud.
- kmedlin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Now...truly the best regional beer in the US is in Kalamazoo MI. Bell's. Their summer wheat beer Oberon is simply put the best summer wheat beer anywhere in the US. And I've tried a TON because I want to find one that's as tasty and refreshing.
If you know of a better summer wheat brew that's widely available in NC please let me know!!!- bmorrow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Oberon Ale is the best Beer in the Universe. Last January I got to the point where I would have probably killed man if It would get me 6pack.
- tmessing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1And the crazy part is Budweiser is the number one selling beer in the world.....
- mathie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Any opinions on Corona?
- dmclone, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Worse then Bud.
- wheels999, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Corona, nice beer to have on a hot summers day. Nothing special though.
- noclothes1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0mostly corn, maize or however you say it in Mexico. Presidente and Carib are much better summer beers if you like the "add a lime" types. Also Carib is sold for $0.75 on many beaches in the Caribbean and its good, plus on St. Maarten you can drink in the taxis.
- nukethewhales, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Even us Mexicans don't like Corona. IF you must have a light beer, drink Dos X. Otherwise, go with Indio, or Negra Modelo. The best thing about Mexican beers is that the really cheap ones aren't as bad as Lone Star or Natural Light (the cheap beers to buy in Texas). If you are strapped for cash in Mexico you can get Tecate and a lime or Carta Blanca and you'll be okay.
- mrmorris, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Come on, Bud is not beer... try mouthwash! America must have a severe lack of options to favor this.
- bmorrow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Why do you have to Rag on Mouthwash? It is no where near as bad a Bud.
- UnderWurlde, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If you're a college student in the US and can't afford the imported beers but want a buzz, you'd say something to the effect "Well, it gets the job done" but in my experience when we brought Canadian microbrewed beer to the US, the guys found it "sooo strong!" 8% beer is not for the wuss. And it'll get the job done in a quarter of the time, with taste to boot.
- noclothes1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0College students should only drink PBR!! At least that is a respectable macro.
- somabc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They should sell Budweiser Budvar Instead
- hokieaudi, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1On the same order of insult as Hyundai being the official auto manufacturer of the 2006 World Cup as opposed to Volkswagen, Daimler-Chrysler, BMW or Porsche.
- IzEBaLL, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Been in USA and drank the "famous" beers: Bud, Miller, Coors. The problem is they are too shallow and lack alcohol (now I know why they drink that much beer in Hollywood college movies ;)). The beers in Germany, Austria (where I come from), Belgium etc. are usually stronger both in taste and alcohol.
If they have to serve a beer at the World Championship named "Bud" it should be Budweiser (the one from Budvar, CZ) and not American-Bud. - mlvassallo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Heineken = bitter bark "
At least Heineken has a flavor. The only domestic I drink is Shiner Bock... but I am a snob who pays too much to get drunk. -
