- garryw, on 01/06/2009, -3/+202The numbers: Net worth dropped from 9.2b to 7.8b in one year
Solution: Life not worth living
(You cant even spend 7.8b if you wanted to, that's like spending 5million a day the rest of your life.) - SPThom, on 01/07/2009, -3/+147For him, it would have been like spending 7.8 billion a day for the rest of his life.
- smartcause, on 01/06/2009, -4/+135No amount of financial loss is worth your life...that's just sad.
- BlaqReaper, on 01/07/2009, -2/+109Observer A is dead...
- Betrayal, on 01/07/2009, -12/+98Approx 600 innocent civilians dead in Gaza, more tragedy around the world and then there are yuppies and billionaires who commit suicide because they lost a big chunk of money in the financial crisis... Since they have chosen to do so why should we really care?
This guy has lost 1 billion euro but apparently he had 12 billions in his savings. What's the big deal then? - fabkebab, on 01/06/2009, -2/+68Talk about screwed up perspectives!!
You cant take money with you, and you shouldnt let money take you with it either - maexn, on 01/07/2009, -1/+62This is not about his net-worth, this is about his companies, which are almost bankrupt because of his greed.
he used every trick in the book, f.e. companies which didn't produce or did anything at all, but getting used to make more money at the stock market. he did very dangerous transactions with a lot of money, company money not his, and got what he deserved (lost hundreds of millions, perhabs even billions). he couldn't get over it that his companies would have been split of to get new money, rathiopharm etc., because the banks want its money back. it has nothing to do with the situation the economy is in right now, but it was his fault and only his fault.
i hope i didn't make to many mistakes, i'm not native in english. - inactive, on 01/06/2009, -4/+60"next up to the tracks: number 50 billion, bernie madoff!!"
(the crowd goes wild!) - ThermiteTerrace, on 01/07/2009, -2/+49Should have jumped in front of a Volkswagen
- iamstudip, on 01/06/2009, -6/+49"Pardon me, I have a train to catch."
- skribeForti, on 01/07/2009, -1/+37So he ***** up the train driver's life as well as his own. Way to go arsehole.
- oboshoe, on 01/07/2009, -4/+40This dude, had he lived, would probably have still have more money and a better life than 99% of world.
You can lose 99% of 7.8b and still be doing very very well. - MrColdheart, on 01/07/2009, -1/+35The super rich are sad empty shells that have lost their souls to materialism.
Where do I sign up? - DouglasQ, on 01/07/2009, -10/+43Is it like, even possible to be happy in Germany?
- BESTenemy, on 01/07/2009, -4/+35It's 1929 all over again.
- inactive, on 01/07/2009, -2/+32So, I think this pretty much seals the deal as far as not naming your kid "Adolf".
- jason210, on 01/07/2009, -1/+26"It had still appeared probable that Merckle would have had to agree to cede significant parts of his business empire – which has been described by bankers as highly leveraged – in return for long-term bank support."
He was going to lose it all. - tonyma, on 01/07/2009, -2/+27Guess which country has more cities on the "best places to live" rankings every year? US or Germany?
And Forbes had a survey showing the U.S. with the highest rate of depression among a survey group of 14 countries with Germany being one of the lowest.
30 days of vacation a year, being in the heart of Europe, and living in a country that takes care of you does make some people there happy..maybe not you - inactive, on 01/07/2009, -1/+25Obviously he was going to be eating Mac and Cheese for the rest of his life, living in a van down by the river.
- sockpuppets, on 01/07/2009, -2/+26So the guy worth 9.2 billion lost $539 million?
I hope someone called a waaahmbulance for him. - Dradu, on 01/07/2009, -0/+22http://img530.imageshack.us/img530/3517/2cmufr8ef6 ...
If you didn't get it - K4Lic0, on 01/07/2009, -11/+33You've never been worth billions, had it taken away from you and thrown in jail, have you?
I'm not justifying what he did by any means, but it's kind of a unique situation, no? - nigelmansell, on 01/07/2009, -1/+22thanks, that means i moved up a spot in the Forbe's list of top 500 million
- ThermiteTerrace, on 01/07/2009, -2/+22Philosophizing about one's depression is practically the German national sport...as opposed to merely being depressed (which is the English national sport)
The Germans are the reason why we have the word "angst" in our vocabulary... - Treshnell, on 01/07/2009, -1/+20Suicide is saying "I Quit." There is no I in team.
- Antz0rz, on 01/07/2009, -0/+19"Can I have your stuff?"
- inactive, on 01/07/2009, -0/+19It was before 1944
- haydesigner, on 01/07/2009, -0/+19"You've never been worth billions, had it taken away from you and thrown in jail, have you?"
Why, no... no I haven't.
How did you know? - ThermiteTerrace, on 01/07/2009, -1/+20Oh dear.
That means 3 years down the road it'll be 1932 all over again in Germany. - vsaint, on 01/07/2009, -1/+19Dude I was wondering why he wasn't at kickball practice...
- Treshnell, on 01/07/2009, -1/+18I think I could be pretty happy with 7+ billion.
- locondcoco, on 01/07/2009, -0/+17and what team would that be? the "crap i might dip under $10 billion" team?
- Pinkertinkle, on 01/07/2009, -5/+22So when is Madoff going to jump in front of a train?
- majik92, on 01/07/2009, -1/+17I don't want to sound self-righteous or anything, but billions of people live with much less money than he had even after his losses. Life is invaluable: it's one of the few things you can never get back after you lose it.
But in all respect: RIP. - groo68, on 01/07/2009, -0/+16but this time it will be America.
- groo68, on 01/07/2009, -1/+16I say sell your company, your assets that are failing, and live out your life comfortably as a multimillionaire, knowing you accomplished something and affected a lot of peoples lives.
- perryc, on 01/06/2009, -3/+18It seems like there is a suicide wave around the world. What the hell?
- EllimistX, on 01/07/2009, -0/+14I would say becoming a billionaire despite the name (given how anti-Nazi Germany is) is an accomplishment...
- unomeasjon, on 01/07/2009, -2/+16"Made in Germany, You know the Germans make good things."
- MrColdheart, on 01/07/2009, -1/+15So what your saying is this guy could throw 5 million dollars out a helicopter in a different place everyday for the rest of his life.
He would've been bigger then Santa and Jesus combined! - cowsgonemadd3, on 01/07/2009, -5/+18The point still stands regardless.
- anteyekon4myst, on 01/07/2009, -3/+15Those who have the most have the most to lose.
- staticfire, on 01/07/2009, -0/+12actually just last week I lost 2 billion when the cops confiscated my assets and arrested me for being a violent pathological liar
- forestballa, on 01/07/2009, -0/+12hahaha caught me off guard.
- Gr00ver, on 01/07/2009, -9/+21Suicide kills.
- altgeeky1, on 01/07/2009, -0/+12His kind never get near enough to public transit for THAT to happen...
- inactive, on 01/07/2009, -1/+12nah, not really. I mean maybe slight fluctuations in numbers here and there, but its mostly due to the fact that we live in a day and age where this stuff is broadcasted all over the place. 15 or so years ago the internet wasn't nearly as big as it is now, news stations were fewer and more interested in real news, etc etc.
This "age of information" is pretty new when you think about it, its only just started.
So in other words; This stuff has always been around, its just that your eyes are finally being opened to it all making you think its some kind of epidemic or something. - Gloony, on 01/07/2009, -0/+11Being an idiot didn't seem to help you...
- mrzeero, on 01/07/2009, -3/+14You do not have a very good imagination. I could spent 7.8 billion in a single day.
- locondcoco, on 01/07/2009, -1/+12the autobahn, nurburgring and BMW. what is NOT to like?
