- phreak79, on 10/22/2008, -0/+19Great, a gas cartel. Just what the world needs.
- OfNumbers, on 10/21/2008, -1/+18The plan is clear now. Burn all of the fossil fuel up, ask questions later.
- doiveo, on 10/21/2008, -0/+14They make up about 55% of the estimated reserves.
Russia - 26.3%,
Iran - 15.5%
Qatar - 14%
That's enough to make a big impact. - orlyfactor, on 10/22/2008, -0/+14Just one more reason to find alternative sources of energy.
- Solkre, on 10/22/2008, -0/+10Joy. Can we have alternatives now please?
- LemonHerb, on 10/22/2008, -0/+9Anyone still care about drilling anymore? Alternative energy will save us from this.
- apophenic, on 10/22/2008, -1/+9Stay classy, Diggnation.
- Spuy767, on 10/22/2008, -0/+8Awesome. I always thought that there were too few energy cartels.
- AlbinoRaven, on 10/22/2008, -0/+8Its because they need the price of oil to be around 100 a barrel to finish infrastructure projects. The Saudi's wont get in line properly so whats better than dissolving OPEC and creating a competing group?
- thejokker, on 10/22/2008, -1/+9thumbs up for stats without sources
- rrife, on 10/22/2008, -1/+9We need to form a OHEC (Org of Hydrogen Exporting Counties) or the OFPCTECWFWGRTFBRUWHFP (Org of Food Producing Countries That Export to Countries Where Food Won't Grow, and They Return the Favor By Raping Us With High Fuel Prices).
- GoneGreen, on 10/22/2008, -0/+7This can only end badly, it is essentially a power brokerage to manipulate pricing and assert dominance over the US and other oil reliant countries.
- GoneGreen, on 10/22/2008, -1/+8Tard, baby, tard.
- ScaryUK, on 10/22/2008, -0/+7OPEC is oil.
This one will be for gas (that's proper gas, not gasoline) - AtraNoxVII, on 10/22/2008, -0/+7At least the stats seem to be believable and reasonable and not grossly huge estimations. I mean he even used decimals, that's got to mean something.
- inactive, on 10/22/2008, -0/+6Its a huge resource everyone wants to exploit before demand goes down as it is outmoded by new tech. Although I would say gas will be used longer than oil.
- IanG73, on 10/22/2008, -0/+6Son of a bitch.
- apophenic, on 10/22/2008, -1/+6That doesn't follow at all. They have an economic resource that is very much in demand right now. Why wouldn't they act to protect their interests? It's not like no one is planning on moving away from fossil fuels or doesn't acknowledge that there isn't INFINITY OILZ in the earth. At this time, the infrastructure is not in place to completely transition to renewable resources instantaneously. We are going to have to keep burning fossil fuels until we get there.
- tora03, on 10/22/2008, -1/+6This is natural gas, not oil. So no one's dissolving OPEC, even though they should imo.
- Smurph0404, on 10/22/2008, -0/+5***** these guys. If every country decided to form a cartel with other countries to control the goods they exported, the results would be catastrophic. The whole world should start an embargo against OPEC and this group if they are created.
- GoneGreen, on 10/22/2008, -0/+5Just because liberals don't want to bash everyone's head in over oil doesn't mean that we do not understand the issue. Go start a war with Iran and see just how fast your precious gasoline doubles in price.
- Spuy767, on 10/22/2008, -2/+6I don't condone racism, but Arafat's Keffiyeh did look like it wouldn't be out of place adorning my dining room table.
- apophenic, on 10/22/2008, -1/+5gas =/= gasoline/petrol
you're probably trolling anyway who cares - inactive, on 10/22/2008, -0/+4Rape exporters' group to be formed.
- Suricou, on 10/22/2008, -0/+4Using the word 'gas' to describe a liquid will result in confusion such as this.
- evilregis, on 10/22/2008, -0/+4Better than just the Organisation of Gas Countries. OGC.
- vbullinger, on 10/22/2008, -1/+5Organisation of Gas Exporting Countries? ***** you, OGEC!
BTW, this has been planned for a long time.
Will Indonesia be involved in this OGEC? I mean, I know they're going to "find" oil in Russia soon, even though they've known of its existence for a long time, and then they'll just "find" some in Indonesia, too, so I'm thinking Indonesia will be in this OGEC.
Found all this out here: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-305531522 ... - dblespresso, on 10/22/2008, -0/+3Right global market demand has no impact on local prices
- Xavious85, on 10/22/2008, -1/+4The new age axis of evil?
- thcobbs, on 10/22/2008, -1/+4We import very little natural gas. It won't really affect us.
- BigDaddyBucyk, on 10/22/2008, -0/+3 Unless they can block out the sun and wind, I say "let them cut their own throats".
- Nevotraz, on 10/22/2008, -1/+4I find it interesting that as a country, Canada actually has the 2nd largest oil reserves in the world, yet isn't a part of OPEC or this new organization. Not that it would be good of they were...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oil_reserves#Estimate ... - seagoat2008, on 10/22/2008, -0/+3I hope no one is thinking that oil is our future still, even with the tumbling prices. Let's be ahead of the obvious that oil is the past. We have too long reacted to the world without thoughtfully mapping our own course. The election results are just the beginning for us to reclaim our great country's heritage and promise. We the people. We can not leave it to the special interests and money people with our elected officials.
- poidh, on 10/22/2008, -2/+5Say hello to higher gas prices.
Plus, it's not very healthy for Iran and Russia to get any closer. - ScaryUK, on 10/22/2008, -0/+3It's all hydrocarbons yes, but the difference is the end product, that's what matters as that's what's being exported and sold. In this case it's natural gas: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Dome_Gas_Field
OPEC are concerned with the end product called Petroleum (confusingly known in the US as 'gas') - GoneGreen, on 10/22/2008, -0/+3Stupid comment...
- Suricou, on 10/22/2008, -0/+3I'm a Strawman Liberal! I worship Marx, and would like to turn everyone gay and lock up Christians! I'm going to steal all your money and give it to lazy people who don't want to work. Espicially if they are black or mexican. I also believe pedophilia is a right - that's why I want to destroy marriage. I hate the family, and America, and believe we can all just get along if not for people like Bush who blow up skyscrapers so they can start a holy war.
- gamebittk, on 10/26/2008, -0/+3The formation of energy cartels by countries who aren't so much our friends will hopefully push alternative energy research, and hopefully force the government to get off their asses and do something (that actually gets ***** done) to shake up our dependence on foreign oil and gas.
- bjzq8, on 10/22/2008, -0/+3One word: Winter. Perhaps they don't have it where you are? BTW, in most areas of the US, you can't just put a motor on a bicycle without it being considered a motor vehicle, and subject to title, insurance, and licensing restrictions.
- Suricou, on 10/22/2008, -0/+3I was suggesting that 'liberals,' as ProUSADigger sees them, don't exist. He was attacking a straw man, a creation of his own imagination. Real liberals are nothing like those he was criticising.
- AtraNoxVII, on 10/22/2008, -1/+4Run, Spot, Run.
- craighoxton, on 10/22/2008, -0/+2Russia, Iran and Qatar drink your milkshake
- ScaryUK, on 10/22/2008, -0/+2Qatar are an ally of the US.... it's the country that housed US troops during the Iraq war and where rehearsals for the US invasion took place
- inactive, on 10/22/2008, -0/+2?
- Suricou, on 10/22/2008, -0/+2Even if we somehow get over the political difficulties, it would still take decades to make a full transition.
- richlw, on 10/22/2008, -0/+2out, out damn spot!
- inactive, on 10/22/2008, -0/+2That would work of it were charged by the gallon.
- skinny01, on 10/22/2008, -0/+2Perfectly fine if you're single but for the rest of us with a mate and kids, sorry.
- TheJimid, on 10/22/2008, -0/+2They prefer to be called OPEC Squared
- Suricou, on 10/22/2008, -0/+2Actually, the first comment was right. I misread it - I thought it said 'Iran attacks Israel.' My mistake. With the correct reading, my comment makes no sense.
