Gary Vaynerchuk knows marketing watch!
ourawesomeplanet.com — I respect the dude, but I had no idea that he was this big. (scroll down for video)
- 1102 diggs
- digg it
- rglover, on 03/04/2008, -10/+15Very inspirational bit. I love his charisma and ability to bring things down to earth. Cool video too!
- RomulusX86, on 03/04/2008, -1/+3His charisma, and willingness to invest his time into the community, he answers all of his email and Twitter messages, is truly inspiring and amazing. To top it all off, he's a great person to hang out with and be around.
- Asriel86, on 03/04/2008, -5/+3What the hell is going on here? We're worshiping some guy in a 4 minute video of nothing but self-aggrandizing because he answers emails? This is more confusing than the Ron Paul fixation.
- Shaggy6ster, on 03/04/2008, -0/+1Why is this in both the image and video sections?
- carguy84, on 03/04/2008, -0/+6"Gary responds to each and every email that he receives ( about 1,000 messages/ day)"
Uh huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
if it takes on average 1 minute to respond to each email that's 17 hours worth/day.

hmm, this ought to be a reply to carguy84... whatever
- moste, on 03/04/2008, -0/+0But at least he is good in making people believe he does! ;)
- RexxxMaster, on 03/04/2008, -0/+1thats a good loop hmmmmm.....?
- mnocket, on 03/04/2008, -0/+1Reading the fervor of his supporter's comments replying to any negative comment is kind of frightening. They have the enthusiasm of cultists. I'm thinking this post is actually a marketing ploy
- RomulusX86, on 03/04/2008, -1/+3His charisma, and willingness to invest his time into the community, he answers all of his email and Twitter messages, is truly inspiring and amazing. To top it all off, he's a great person to hang out with and be around.
- schnitzel247, on 03/04/2008, -8/+6this video is almost as cool as his last name.
- CoyotesFan84, on 03/04/2008, -9/+34Dugg for Vaynerchuk. Love the sniffy sniff
- mooseontheloose, on 03/04/2008, -45/+4who cares about some gay russian wine dude
- A11YND, on 03/04/2008, -6/+2Wow, you really know how to be a troll don't you?
your un-originality intrigues me! Please, give me some more wonderful insight, your could be the next ***** Ayn Rand.
This is me, telling you, that your a horrible troll and even worse human being, you deserve to burn in hell with a serious case of the clap.
This has been a public service announcement, from A11YND.- mooseontheloose, on 03/04/2008, -7/+3I have my moments

- ThinkBox, on 03/04/2008, -3/+6Vayner Nation! WooHoo!
- Zybergod, on 03/04/2008, -5/+2Found by innonate on Twitter
- RonAcierno, on 03/04/2008, -2/+18He clearly knows what he's talking about. Though it is also a lot easier to not take money or use advertising when your family's wine store (The Wine Library) made close to 25 million last year.
- joestump, on 03/04/2008, -1/+7I think it's a fairly well known fact that he does WLTV, in part, to promote his family's store. I don't think that was ever in question. A lot of what he says still stands. There are ways to monetize your traffic without doing ads. 37Signals does this to some extent by using their applications to generate client business. They also, obviously, charge for extra features and upgrades.
- noseeme, on 03/04/2008, -0/+9Wait, why are people crazy about him? Does he just share his marketing philosophies?
One of you fanatics should explain. :)- sirbenofwhite, on 03/04/2008, -1/+15winelibrary.tv
daily wine review podcast for the learned and wine-retarded alike. - sirbenofwhite, on 03/04/2008, -0/+1oops... although that link i gave will take you to his site, the address it gives once you get there is actually tv.winelibrary.com and the link he gives on his podcasts is winelibrarytv.com..... so i guess you can just take your pick, because it will all lead you to the same place. enjoy.
- kesam, on 03/04/2008, -0/+4Here's the deal: Notice the "Strategic Profits" signs in the background. That's an ongoing conference right now, created by a bunch of internet marketers that hope to sell the vids / DVDs afterwards for ***** of money. I'm guessing this digg story is part of the marketing for that product (these guys know their way around the net.)
- sirbenofwhite, on 03/04/2008, -1/+15winelibrary.tv
- DonJuan, on 03/04/2008, -3/+2Diggity Dugg, GV. Way to go.
- underivy, on 03/04/2008, -2/+0Nice speech. I watched it the other day and was impressed.
- ericrochow, on 03/04/2008, -8/+2Gary inpsires me to push forward with Gardenfork.tv and RealWorldGreen.com . You can watch Gary and I chat on the set of Wine Library TV on this episode of Gardenfork : http://tinyurl.com/2fupq5
- noseeme, on 03/04/2008, -2/+2Goatse'd. Damnit.
- sarno, on 03/04/2008, -5/+2Great speech, inspired me.
- jfoobar, on 03/04/2008, -5/+3He has inspired me. I'm not sure what he has inspired me to do but I feel inspired dammit!
Love the show, GV. - TheTaint, on 03/04/2008, -1/+9He's only 4 feet tall in real life. Those pictures are shopped.

- compcaddy, on 03/04/2008, -11/+15are you kidding me? the guy sounds like a douche bag
- DesignEx, on 03/04/2008, -5/+4Thank you, I'm glad I wasn't seeing things.
- joestump, on 03/04/2008, -5/+10Kind of mean considering you've never met him. I have, many times, and I can say without a doubt he's one of the most passionate, genuine, loving and considerate people I've ever met. I don't even watch WLTV, but I love Gary. His younger brother AJV is as well. I'd love to meet their parents because they've raised two amazing kids.
- sonnybobiche, on 03/04/2008, -0/+1He was raised in new jersey! He can't help it! But underneath that, he's all heart.
- ryansriches, on 03/04/2008, -2/+0Very inspirational piece. Well done with the video.
- licramon, on 03/04/2008, -2/+0as cool
- DesignEx, on 03/04/2008, -11/+17Digg me down, but I found him quite annoying and speaking on what is basically common sense to most of us.
The way he talks makes it seem inspirational, but really the content is average.- seantubridy, on 03/04/2008, -5/+3I hear you but the issue is that it's not common sense to most people. You would believe how many people I have met who think "brand" means a logo.
And the fact that his style is more inspirational than his content is just the point. Content is king but it's marketing that really has the final power. - HiKevinRose, on 03/04/2008, -4/+1Average, where's your big company, eh hotshot?
Don't judge GV until you know GV. - hendzen, on 03/04/2008, -0/+1Reminds me of a certain presidential candidate...

- Gunite, on 03/04/2008, -5/+16Inspirational?? 50 diggs in 1 minute? What is going on here? I'm sorry, but his presentation was entirely without substance.
This guy obviously has his own personal digg army.- piratearggghhh, on 03/04/2008, -1/+6Gary VAY-NER-CHUK is the epitome of a successful Internet 2.0 business. He has successfully bridged something that was boring and elitist, wine, into something hip and for the everyday person. He connects with his customers and really understands how new business is done and his success is incredible. He's basically built a robust community of all ages and backgrounds around wine. He's genuine and passionate about what he does and we can all learn a thing or two from a guy like that. Watch his daily shows and you'll understand.
- HerrEisenheim, on 03/04/2008, -1/+1That's great, but how does he make money? Do the wine companies pay him to review their products? That's my guess. Basically, he's used his knowledge of wine and become an actor. That's not something everyone can do.
- piratearggghhh, on 03/04/2008, -0/+4His family owns one of the biggest wine retail and distributions in the east coast thanks to him. They did a feature of him on ABC Nightline. http://tv.winelibrary.com/nightlines-interview-of- ...
- HerrEisenheim, on 03/04/2008, -0/+1Interesting. He desperately needs to move away from Viddler though. That has to be one of the most obnoxious video hosts out there.
- tehrich, on 03/04/2008, -0/+1I tried watching an episode way back when he was mentioned on Diggnation. I couldn't make it through the first minute.
I tried again now, on the January 28th episode people are toting as amazing. I couldn't do it.
I think I like wine better elitist and distant. =/ - dxmzan, on 03/05/2008, -0/+1and he lets me suck his *****!
- HerrEisenheim, on 03/04/2008, -1/+1That's great, but how does he make money? Do the wine companies pay him to review their products? That's my guess. Basically, he's used his knowledge of wine and become an actor. That's not something everyone can do.
- sonnybobiche, on 03/04/2008, -1/+2He has his own digg army because he's actually that likeable.
- piratearggghhh, on 03/04/2008, -1/+6Gary VAY-NER-CHUK is the epitome of a successful Internet 2.0 business. - HerrEisenheim, on 03/04/2008, -2/+3He's right and he's wrong.
1) He's right about marketing and building a brand. He's wrong that anyone can do it. The reasons he listed for why he can is exactly why most people can't.
2) Giving things away for free is great... when we are in a nice tech bubble (just as we were before) where people are throwing money all over the place, trying to see what sticks, and not even evaluating its impact on revenues until later. Yes, things are different today because of things like Amazon S3 and cloud computing, because that greatly reduces cost, but it doesn't drop it to zero. What do you do when investment capital dries up and you still don't have a revenue model? You spam ads all over the place like everyone else, or you fold.
3) He's spot on about how people are often marketing other company's products. Digg is a great example, actually. Part of Digg's success is no doubt attributable to the 100s to Digg clones popping up all over the place. - cinecity, on 03/04/2008, -6/+3Dugg cuz I'm a Vayniac
- HiKevinRose, on 03/04/2008, -2/+3Screw the rest of them, I dugg you up. Vayniacs unite! :)
- cinecity, on 03/04/2008, -0/+1Right on Kevin! They just buried me b/c they don't know what a Vayniac is.
- HiKevinRose, on 03/04/2008, -2/+3Screw the rest of them, I dugg you up. Vayniacs unite! :)
- esaks, on 03/04/2008, -2/+3The video doesn't really show much. I would be interested in watching the full video or his presentation from FOWA. I'm a big fan of Gary and wine library. He has mastered the art of personal branding and I think that is what that presentation was about. In business, if you can create a brand that has the power to influence decision making, you have a gold mine on tap.
- StoneLox, on 03/04/2008, -7/+5is he selling you into a pyramid scheme?
- jebidiah123, on 03/04/2008, -0/+1people dugg you down, but I kind of got the same feeling.
- Somefoo, on 03/04/2008, -1/+11Could one of his followers explain why this video deserves to be on the front page? Those of us who have not yet paid to hear him speak are not really getting it. "You are a brand" is not exactly revolutionary, so I hope it's more than that.
- HiKevinRose, on 03/04/2008, -3/+2It's more about his actions on his own show, WineLibraryTV (http://tv.winelibrary.com/). He's a really genuine, passionate guy, totally homegrown. His parents immigrated from Russia and owned a liquor shop while he was growing up. He went around all over the place smelling and tasting literally everything he could to expand his palette so that he could better review wines and equate their tastes. He opens the wine world to people who know absolutely nothing about wine and his over-the-top energy is a fun refresher each day.
Seriously, I'm 15, never a drop of alcohol in my life, but I watch everyday. He's a really, really great guy and you can't help but lend him an ear for 20 minutes a day. Give him a try and watch a few episodes. It's worth the time. Try the big number episodes, 400 and 300 are particularly good and the January 28 episode has his brother on it and their love for each other is humbling to see. - HiKevinRose, on 03/04/2008, -3/+1Yeah, definitely go for the January 28 episode as your introduction to the Veynernation. It's phenomenal.

- ColonelJessup, on 03/04/2008, -4/+21God, I hated my marketing class. Such *****. "How do we segment the market for toilet paper?"
I know marketing majors can make some serious money, but it really is a field for uber-douchebags, and people who are full of *****.- Metalmoon, on 03/04/2008, -1/+8Sounds like you're a marketing guy.
You've segmented marketing majors into uber-douchebags and people who are full of *****. Now, how do you target each of those groups? - zephc, on 03/04/2008, -2/+3Sounds like someone needs to realign his dominant paradigm.
- d3dm, on 03/04/2008, -1/+3I have no idea what a "dominant paradigm" is, but I'll dig you up just because it sounds like some bucket of ***** that my company is paying our Marketing dept. millions to put into a Powerpoint slide deck.
- gravtex, on 03/04/2008, -1/+5I love it when people like you try to run their own businesses (the marketing is ***** crowd). It makes it so much easier for me as a consultant to help your competition put you out of business.
- BufferingStream, on 03/04/2008, -1/+2You've obviously never worked in the field. In many cases, what you're spouting is true - people are in it for the dough. But there are many who use their marketing superpowers for good, informing people of the true benefits of a product or service. It's just unfortunate that their messages get buried by those that have higher budgets and more enticing, though often false, spiels.
- Metalmoon, on 03/04/2008, -1/+8Sounds like you're a marketing guy.
- Asriel86, on 03/04/2008, -0/+7I have no idea what the hell that guy was talking about but I know it wasn't about marketing.
- gravtex, on 03/04/2008, -0/+1I didn't watch the short video on that site, but I was in Orlando and saw the full live presentation and I have to admit it was quite good although I found myself disagreeing with him several different times... but it was thought provoking.
- CarGuy, on 03/04/2008, -1/+12Buried for insinuating Gary is a Giants fan.. We all know he's a Jets fan.
- dildoolielly, on 03/04/2008, -1/+7
Time to put on your hidden ***** decoder rings - me1.0, on 03/04/2008, -0/+1Wasn't this guy featured in Rod Torfulson's Armada?
- 8bit_Hero, on 03/04/2008, -4/+1can i digg this twice?
- n00bvin, on 03/04/2008, -3/+7The guy has the charisma of a shoe salesman, and not a very good one at that.
- gmac17, on 03/04/2008, -2/+10I like his show, but this clip doesn't deserve to be on the frontpage of digg in 100 years.
- deekus, on 03/04/2008, -0/+4He didn't SAYYYY ANYTHING!!!
The only thing that makes sense is the whole bit about building your legacy today...make your own history. OK Anthony Robbins.
Lame. - KDAY12, on 03/04/2008, -0/+5meh.

- fiendlama, on 03/04/2008, -0/+1This is Ron Popeil kindof charisma.... watching this video without knowing much about Gary but knowing a lot about marketing feels like I'm up too late stuck on some channel wondering "how much would I pay for a .......?"
- optoomistic, on 03/04/2008, -0/+1gary V representin!!
- kubedawg, on 03/04/2008, -1/+1w00t! Just watched the new episode, and I'll have to say, I am ADDICTED to Wine Library TV!!!

- punwin, on 03/04/2008, -2/+1Am I the only one who hates this douchebag?
- drewie123, on 03/04/2008, -0/+1good one. this video and the response it has been getting just proves that stating the obvious can sometimes be perceived as an epiphany.
- Gunite, on 03/04/2008, -0/+2No, he is just demonstrating how to use a digg army to get on the front page to increase exposure. It worked so I guess he has some skills.
- salazarmark, on 03/04/2008, -2/+0Diggers don't know anything about satisfying a woman, or anything about a female for that matter.
- BobbyBo, on 03/05/2008, -0/+0If you don't know much about the success of Wine Library, you should check it out first. This guy is a genius and pulled an international market for what began as a small liquor store in NJ, and has become a huge player in internet wine sales in a matter of 5 years, with next to no cost in marketing. We all have a lot to learn from GV, and its not just about wine. Fact is, I don't see a lot of people doing what Gary does, as well as he does it. I am wondering how all these non WLTV fans even found this link and watched the video. Clearly most don't have any idea what Gary is talking about. check it out tv.winelibrary.com
- jackcharm, on 03/05/2008, -2/+1This guy is a DOUCHEbag. He didn't SAY anything. Seriously. You guys are responding to his confidence.
