- thefox84, on 06/16/2009, -0/+32YES. Let's hope some of that sports car DNA ends up in Saabs. No more rebadged trailblazers hopefully...
- numeric, on 06/16/2009, -2/+21As an owner for three past Saabs, please bring back the hatchback!
- AlienMushroom, on 06/16/2009, -1/+20GM shouldn't have bought it.
- crownedgriffin, on 06/16/2009, -3/+21It's like they just write whatever they want without checking the facts first. It's true that Koenigsegg isn't big enough to handle Saab on their own. Saab is being purchased by an investment group led by Bard Ekar, who is 49% owner of Koenigsegg.
GM will be retaining a small portion of ownership allowing Saab to purchase parts from the vast GM parts bin.
Also, Saab does not make the 9-5 in Russelsheim and never has. They make the current 9-5 in Trollhattan and always have. What they're referring to is the next generation 9-5. GM had planned to give production to Russelsheim, but since Saab is back in control, they're taking the car back before production begins. - danthek54, on 06/16/2009, -0/+14Koenigsaab?
- bringitontimx, on 06/16/2009, -0/+13Introduducing the new 9-3 Turbo.
0-60 in 3.2 seconds - headlessclown, on 06/16/2009, -1/+12as a saab owner, i'm very happy about this.
- Hu99, on 06/17/2009, -1/+11Thank God Saab is back in the hands of Scandinavians. GM should be ashamed of the way they handled the Saab line. You couldn't even buy one in Canada unless you went to a Saturn dealership and the salesmen inevitably tried to steer you toward the crappy Saturns.
The 9-3 and 9-5 were absolute ***** too. Nothing at all like the Saabs of the 70's and 80's which were perfect for harsh winter climates. - absurdist, on 06/16/2009, -0/+9II hope they can inject some of the original Saab 92/95/96 DNA into the boring GM clone iron they're now manufacturing.
- dizmoz, on 06/16/2009, -1/+891' saab 900 was my baby
- bdbr, on 06/16/2009, -0/+7Koenigseggseggssaaab
(Top Gear reference) - dmoney51, on 06/16/2009, -0/+6Saabs were great until GM bought them around 95 to get their turbo technology. Then GM tried to squeeze terrible V6s (had one, to change the spark plugs on half the cylinders you had to take the air intake off) into the 900 and just made everything to big and overbearing. My '95 900 felt sporty even with that joke of an engine. My mom had a 91' 9000 also felt kinda sporty and the 88' 900 a family friend had was awesome. My dad got a '99 9-3 and it just feels bloated and boatish and I don't even know what they are trying to do now. Bring back the sporty hatchbacks.
- ojuice, on 06/16/2009, -0/+6Family has about seven old 900s. As they die we cannibalize and revive others, the cycle never ends.
- robbiedo, on 06/17/2009, -1/+7I am tired off all the Saab stories.
- inactive, on 06/16/2009, -5/+10I honestly didn't know that there was a such thing as a Saab nerd.
- cosworth99, on 06/17/2009, -0/+4Top Gear Stig times:
Koeniggggseggggsaaaabb - anotherjack, on 06/17/2009, -0/+4DEY TERK ER SAABS!
- WELLDOITLIVE, on 06/17/2009, -0/+4Yea, my dad is a Saab nerd. He emailed me this story earlier today and was really excited.
- therealrico, on 06/16/2009, -0/+2I love Saab's, never owned one, but definitely will considered getting one. now I will definitely consider getting one!
- Barackalypse, on 06/16/2009, -1/+3I'm glad to see this was an actual sale, unlike how we gave Chrysler away to Fiat in exchange for magic beans (oh, right, "billions worth of small car and engine technology")
- ChileanGoD, on 06/16/2009, -0/+2As a kid did you have toy Saabs too?
- jbmcb, on 06/17/2009, -0/+2There are Honda Civic nerds. C'mon.
- swordedge, on 06/16/2009, -1/+3Good, now keep going... sell some more units. Also, SELL all those shares to the people. The government has NO BUSINESS owning GM.
- anotherjack, on 06/17/2009, -0/+2Now sell Volvo back to the Swedes, please. And bring back the 240 model, while you're at it.
- swraman, on 06/17/2009, -0/+2no...not long enough.
- xdre, on 06/17/2009, -0/+2GM bought Saab because it was fashionable to snap up Euro brands at the time, not simply because of turbo technology. GM did pioneer turbos, after all, and Buick was mass-producing them around the same time as Saab.
- dsmx, on 06/17/2009, -0/+2I'm sure there's a few z's some extra g's and some more e's in that.
- swraman, on 06/17/2009, -0/+2hell i hope they can inject some of the CCXR DNA into new Saab's
- swraman, on 06/17/2009, -0/+2if the ccx rubs off on saabs...ill buy one.
- DrJG, on 06/17/2009, -0/+2Finally! Saab achieves freedom to come home! And be the truly great wonder of a car it always was -
Love Saab! - DrJG, on 06/17/2009, -0/+1Yes, weren't they, and great in any other climate too -
- sremick, on 06/22/2009, -0/+1I'm on my third SAAB, and it's a Viggen. Vroom!
- DrJG, on 06/17/2009, -0/+1Then again, an excellent quality car does not require maintainance all that often when used by a good driver. Mine only needed something when another guy slammed into mine when he turned from a wrong lane.
- AROERS, on 06/17/2009, -0/+1Think that had anything to do with going after the Pirate Bay??????????/
- ftc08, on 06/17/2009, -1/+2My '99 9-3 Hatchback will stay with me until one of us dies.
Hopefully both at once, I couldn't live without my baby. - nitrojunky24, on 06/16/2009, -2/+3hopefully this will make saabs saabs again and not re heated vauxhalls just hope the quality and reliably don't go to ***** gm was never brilliant but small car firms can be really really bad.
- skit4king, on 06/17/2009, -0/+1Can't wait to hear what Jeremy Clarkson has to say about this!
- monsieurrompu, on 06/17/2009, -0/+1This is what we've all been waiting for.
- EvanDorn, on 06/17/2009, -0/+1Realistically, it would be nice to see some Saabs with 400+ BHP and AWD standard across the board. I think it "should" happen with Koenigsegg being the insane performance car company that they are.
- irstoopd, on 06/17/2009, -1/+297 900 SE. Love it!
- DrJG, on 06/17/2009, -0/+1We met a German in UK who had brought over his own Saab from home rather than get another (company lease standard being an E Mercedes) - understood his loyalty perfectly, loved mine, but his was more so, since he was driving a left hand drive in a left side driving country.
- deltronik, on 06/17/2009, -0/+1Awesome news!
Koenigsegg, please bring back the c900 Turbo! Maybe a rear wheel drive version? It could be the new 911 killer! - DrJG, on 06/17/2009, -0/+1Oh what a dream!
- dsmx, on 06/17/2009, -1/+1is that all?
- jbmcb, on 06/17/2009, -1/+1You're right, they should just let them go out of business, as the British car industry was.
- Lewie, on 06/17/2009, -1/+1Definitely! I wish my 9-5 was a hatchback, I love the look and the utility.
- DrJG, on 06/17/2009, -2/+1Haven't you heard of "it's a free country"? No one pushed you in this, could have stayed out.
