blogs.wsj.com — Tiffany & Co. (photos from Belgium) for decades purchased only pre-cut and pre-polished diamonds from vendors. But it has been striving to transform its diamond business amid a decade of industry boom and bust. The New York-based retailer now is buying uncut diamonds to supply its own cutting-and-polishing plants, in its Laurelton Diamonds unit.

    The first article talks about their diamonds they get from De Beers in the Sierre Leone and Botswana amongst other places.

    From the second link it directly says "Tiffany reported that it anticipated approximately 25% of its total annual diamond purchases will come from Canada's Aber Diamond Corporation. "

    I prefer the more colored stones as gifts, ruby, pearl, sapphire.

  • jgopp, on 10/27/2009, -6/+6Actually the vast majority of tiffany diamonds come from a mine in northern Canada. I watched a show on the discovery channel about it. They pay the natives a very hefty wage and give them jobs in return for use of the land. Tiffany is trying to make sure they control all aspects of the diamond mining/cutting/selling process. They were also one of the first companies to sign up for the kimberly process which helps track diamonds and make sure people are getting a fair wage.
