- badqat, on 04/25/2009, -3/+43The truth is, if you go back say three/four years ago, Ford realized it was in trouble...big trouble. So the took the steps required to ensure they could get through it. Unlike GM, which simply snickered at Ford's dilemma then...and didn't recognize its own weaknesses until it was too late to act.
Yeah, I'd say that indicates Ford sucks the least. - livintoolive, on 04/25/2009, -2/+34Ford, i'm begging you to come out with a car I want. I want you to succeed more than GM or Chrysler. Prove to the world that Darwinian capitalism is the way to go. Let failures fail and let successes succeed. I will gladly pay you a premium over foreign competitors because I support how you have managed to live through this economy and car industry mess. As good companies succeed, America succeeds. We are pegged to good companies, not GM.
- fuzzynyanko, on 04/25/2009, -0/+31Ford didn't get any bailout money
- gourami, on 04/25/2009, -0/+22The big three didn't take government loans. Only GM and Chrysler did. So no, Ford will not be repaying the government for loans that it didn't take.
- gcnaddict, on 04/25/2009, -0/+22This is called "running a corporation."
I wish other corporations would learn how to maintain their finances and keep their ducks in order both in good times and bad. Ford did it and look, they really are like a rock. - TommyBoy919, on 04/24/2009, -3/+24So what you're saying is that of the Big 3 American car companies, that Ford sucks the least. Nice.
- Konrad9, on 04/25/2009, -1/+18Take a look around and look at every single other car company. Ford is posting the absolute smallest losses thus far, and that deserves recognition. Yeah, it still is the best of the worst, but it is something to be proud of with the market they have.
- trueinfinite, on 04/25/2009, -0/+11Respectable of ford to put forth an effort to adjust to the modern world, i hope they make it. they had the foresight to get into a better position a couple years ago to prevent the ***** that was coming. also, the ford truck is the best selling truck of all time, so that couldn't have hurt their survival any.
- abm89, on 04/25/2009, -0/+11the 2010 Mustang, Taurus, Focus, Fusion, and Fiesta are looking good right now. Personally, I think they should bring that 300hp focus that they're making over here to the states!
- inactive, on 04/25/2009, -1/+12Ford is releasing a hybrid in 2010 that is a 4 door sedan, gets 41mpg city and 38 hwy, and starts at less than $20,000. Sounds good to me, maybe people will stop thinking only Honda and Toyota can innovate.
- inactive, on 04/25/2009, -0/+10Surprise Surprise... The company that restructures privately fixes problems faster. GM is looking for more taxpayer money, yet again.
- eirek, on 04/25/2009, -0/+10At least Ford isn't mooching off of us.....yet
- xxacefirexx, on 04/25/2009, -1/+11Ford is actually trying to restructure and stay relevant in today's market.
The Focus is a great example of foresight. It is an environmentally friendly and has great gas mileage, so its no surprise that its a success here and internationally. I hope they continue to make these kind of business decisions in the future and come out with some good hybrid vehicles. - PandaBearShenyu, on 04/25/2009, -1/+9Now that is admirable. I've always been fond of Fords, maybe it's because people always made fun of my found on roadside dead car, I became very fond of my Ford like a little brother almost. At least they're actually acting like a real corporation and not some freak of nature that inherits the worst of both capitalism AND socialism.
- inverselogic, on 04/25/2009, -0/+8Haha, well dont I look smart for buying ford stock a few weeks ago for 2.80 =D.
- inactive, on 04/25/2009, -0/+8don't we look smart for getting it at 1.75
- iamvahe, on 04/25/2009, -0/+7Bring the european model Focus RS to the US. Please?
- inactive, on 04/25/2009, -0/+6wtf are you talking about. nice job being an uninformed moron. read my comment below about ford doing a hybrid for less than $20,000 that gets 41mpg city, 38hwy; that costs way less than any other manufacturer, and their quality is now equalling that of which Toyota and Honda can put out, according to recent studies. but hey, keep pulling things out of your ass because you're biased.
- ahhell, on 04/25/2009, -0/+6You know you're a redneck when....
- DarkShroud, on 04/25/2009, -0/+6Ford has increased their market share this last year. Their Hybrids are some of the best you can buy right now. The '10 Fusion is a great hybrid, it still gets 35mpg at 75mph on the highway. The '09 Hybrid Escape can go upto 40mph on the electric engine. Ford's hybrids are also easier to maintain and have a lower carbon foot-print than the Prius. Not to mention looking nicer.
- zenatek, on 04/25/2009, -0/+6Funny, because "like a rock" was a GM slogan.
- Genecalypse, on 04/25/2009, -1/+6don't drive a ford, but i got mad respects for them now.
- SyncMyRide, on 04/25/2009, -2/+7That car will be the Fiesta, which will be over here in LESS THEN ONE YEAR.
- chronopublish, on 04/25/2009, -0/+5Hydrogen-powered cars are basically extremely inefficient electric cars. Compare a hydrogen vehicle to a battery-electric vehicle:
BEV = Put electricity in car. Convert electricity into forward motion.
Hydrogen = Use electricity to strip hydrogen from water. Store hydrogen and expend even more energy transporting it to vast nationwide network of fueling stations that we had to build. Drive car to nearest fueling station and put hydrogen in car. Car converts hydrogen back into a fraction of the electricity initially used to create the hydrogen in the first place so that the car will move.
Ford and the other major automobile manufacturers like Hydrogen because they KNOW it's at least 20 years away from being practical - and thus their dealerships can continue to make money on the high-maintenance internal combustion engine and its required oil changes. - scojumba, on 04/25/2009, -1/+6Ford has got balls. My next car will be a Ford!
- paulsabo, on 04/25/2009, -0/+4I can end every sentence with an exclamation mark too!
I can also start a new line for each one!
This must be the most annoying thing anyone's ever read!
Doesn't matter though, because I have a point to make which requires 5 lines and a little too much enthusiasm!
All good lists have a 5th point! - dsmx, on 04/25/2009, -0/+4sad really the best cars an american company makes are designed and built in europe.
- DarkStar3333, on 04/25/2009, -0/+4There product line needs a appearance overhaul, the Focus RS would be a welcome and awesome replacement for the uglified US version. Ford needs to bring some of that rally awesomeness to the US.
There entire Lincon line has to do something other then copying Ford vehicles and applying chrome to random spots. The new mustang looks promising for them as well. - CanIGetAWitness, on 04/25/2009, -1/+5Even if Ford turned down the money because of the terms, I am happy that they are pulling up their own bootstraps.
Proud to drive a Ford, even if I have to push it. - felipeb, on 04/25/2009, -0/+3Because in the city you are constantly stopping and going at lower speeds so by design the electric engine gets used more in the city
- MakanGuru, on 04/25/2009, -2/+5This is why I am a Ford fanboy
- ahhell, on 04/25/2009, -1/+4A British car...really? And you think Fords are pieces of *****?
- inactive, on 04/25/2009, -0/+3Losing 30 billion in 3 years ouch... although kudos to Ford keeping its head above water in this very difficult economy. Even here in Australia(which hasn't fair as bad as the other OECD countries).. new car sales are significantly down.. car dealerships are going under.
- modifiedbears, on 04/25/2009, -3/+6Hydrogen is not the future because it's created from fossil fuels.
- DarkShroud, on 04/25/2009, -0/+3Ford will be using their Euro designs as the standard across the board meaning for the US as well. This will be happening in a year or so. If GM doesn't get the Volt out before then Ford will get my next car purchase same as it did my last two.
- inactive, on 04/25/2009, -0/+3Current Ford CEO seems like a pretty smart guy too.
- funkedup, on 04/25/2009, -5/+7Ford takes a bad rap alot, but they do good things. http://www.detnews.com/article/20090425/LIFESTYLE1 ...
Hydrogen is the future. - marcb83, on 04/25/2009, -1/+3to bad they wont get any money when I sell my ford ranger.
props to them for not taking out tax money though - abm89, on 04/25/2009, -1/+3i question the looks of that new F-series though... =/
- DarkShroud, on 04/25/2009, -0/+2At 21mpg there isn't much to complain about the new F150.
- grumpyrain, on 04/25/2009, -1/+3You should elaborate on that point. Strictly speaking, all you need is water and energy to break of the bonded oxygen. In practice though, it is cheaper to start with natural gas and extract the bonded carbon.
- latpack, on 04/25/2009, -0/+2This is so not looking good. Where's the upside to anything economy-related these days?
*plays fiddle* - Ebacherville, on 04/27/2009, -0/+2any internal combustion engine is very inefficient.. no matter what fuel it burns.
Most efficient = solar or wind generated electricity , put it in a electric car with a large battery bank .. nearly 100% efficient and totally renewable. - chronopublish, on 04/25/2009, -0/+2@Super6
Batteries are not 100% efficient (nothing is) but they are a lot more efficient than hydrogen for the reasons I explained above. - TBagwell, on 04/25/2009, -0/+2doing so takes energy. from fossil fuels.
- bmcnally, on 04/25/2009, -0/+2I had a Ford Aerostar for 15 years. In Michigan.
My family's always been a Ford family - that's the only automaker they would work for. Every car we've gotten from them has given us 10+ years of service. And we've been able to do a lot of the maintenance work ourselves. - soogy, on 04/25/2009, -0/+2Yeah, 'cause making sure you have cash available is totally based on luck.
- ahhell, on 04/25/2009, -0/+1I just wish I would have bought more.
*cry* - slickwatson, on 04/25/2009, -1/+2"alright boys... NOW we are running a business!!!" -- Ford Exec 4/25/09
- toyotaboy, on 04/25/2009, -0/+1as much as I don't like ford, I do hate them the least out of the big three, and you have to commend a car company that doesn't have to beg congress for money because they actually planned for the future.
