- CraigJ, on 10/13/2007, -2/+10How about just not spending more than you make?
- Humptydank, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Yup, because if there's one thing we do in this nation better than saving money, it's losing weight.

Sounds good. - FreakyD, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4"Baby steps. No one gains 100 lbs. overnight,"
Could be cool to watch though - diggerphelps, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Obligatory -> http://www.milkandcookies.com/link/41738/detail/
- centran, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2The best thing I did was start using a finance program. I use gnucash(works in windows as well). It uses double entry accounting.
What that means is I cannot just say I took out $100 dollars cash from my checking account and be done with it. No, that $100 goes into my cash in wallet "account". Then when I spend $10 on dinner I take $10 out of my cash in wallet "account" and move it to Expenses-Food-Dining.
Seems like a lot and you will "lose"(ie forget) some of the cash in wallet stuff but for the most part it makes you think. - MurderMystery, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Ramen noodles.

Money's never been cheaper!

[this message brought to you by your friendly neighborhood central bank] - skunkman62, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2it all on how you define needs. cable tv, high speed internet, cell phones are not needs
- silverchrysalis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2because eventually- both situations- the plastic melts
- nicolaihel, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2That's the same as saying to an overweight person: don't eat too much, or anything that's not healthy.
Useless advice. You need to show them how to do it. - T3rry, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Unfortunately, as easy as it is to say, for some people, that's just not a reality to sustain their needs
- pfunked, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Though low in calories, a pack of the cheap ramen is 66% of the recommended daily fat intake (the pads of ramen are usually two servings). Dieting nutritiously is a bit more expensive.
- opticrime, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Awesome! I can't wait until my spending habits are as trim as my midsection!
Oh.. no... wait. Nix that. (Jiggles belly). - katdaddy, on 12/10/2007, -0/+0A good piece on two things I'm focusing on now. As both a dieter and debt eliminator, it really hit home with me. I would, however, add that real estate is a crucial part of building wealth, but as this piece is about debt reduction rather than wealth building, I will leave that alone. Also, online banking is one thing that has been crucial to my debt elimination plan. Bank of America has a free online program called "My Portfolio" that shows all your accounts and investments and is a wonderful way to see where you stand financially.

- adeptation, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Why diet when you can use credit cards just like what people do with plastic surgeries?
- expatcatalyst, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0True, true, all true. Start early and it will all pay off! Literally!
- jimic79, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1That will keep you at your current financial level. If you cut your spending, you can increase your savings/investments and be happier overall.
