- heystoopid, on 01/20/2009, -8/+54So would the new car company's name be "FIASCO" by any chance ?
- bethaners, on 02/27/2009, -3/+30FIAT = Fix It Again Tony.
- mountainweb, on 01/20/2009, -3/+29It accomplishes two objectives:
1) Gives Fiat an entry point to return to the U.S. market
2) Gives Chrysler access to fuel-efficient technology since all it has is gas-guzzling technology and sadly says that Chrysler has no plans on its own to return to profit without outside help. So, why should the tax payer bail these clueless clowns out? - AmyVernon, on 01/20/2009, -2/+24Interesting, but being owned by Daimler didn't do much for them. Not sure that partnering w/an Italian car company's gonna be any better...
- inactive, on 01/20/2009, -3/+24Thats true. In effect the Italian government bought 35% of Chrysler. So now it is owned by 2 governments and should be doubly incompetent.
- ryan83189, on 01/21/2009, -1/+21Ford = Fix Or Repair Daily
Honda = Hang On, Not Done Accelerating
Dodge = Damn Old Dirty Gas Eater
GM = Garbage Motors
Toyota = The One You Ought To Avoid
Acura = Asia's Curse Upon Rich Americans
VW = Virtually Worthless - phreak79, on 01/20/2009, -2/+20I didn't think Fiat were in such good shape themselves.
- tkcom, on 01/21/2009, -0/+14500 in USA... how hard can it be?
- Maddoktor2, on 01/21/2009, -1/+13You beat me to it, you magnificent bastard!
- mrMunchies, on 01/20/2009, -1/+10fiat has some pretty decent designs
wouldn't mind seeing some in NA - BullHunter, on 01/20/2009, -4/+13That must be the first time a Fiat got within 35% of a Chrysler - ever!
- JanK1, on 01/21/2009, -0/+9Oh yeah? Tell me more.
- inactive, on 01/20/2009, -5/+13Just thank God that it wasn't a Chinese company. We are losing our manufacturing to the Chinese at a rate that we won't have anything left in ten years.
- tinkafoo, on 01/21/2009, -0/+8One thing worse than a Chrysler Sebring:
Fiat Sebring. - LowHz, on 01/21/2009, -1/+8FIAT doesn't stand for "Failed Italian Auto Technology"? "Fix It Again Tony"? Huh.
- nvisn, on 01/21/2009, -0/+7KIA = Killed in accident.
- bethaners, on 02/27/2009, -0/+7HYUNDAI = Hope You Understand Nothing's Drivable And Inexpensive.
And, I'm a magnificent bitch, actually. - ryan83189, on 01/21/2009, -0/+7Need I Say Something About Nothing
Seriously, I have all of this crap from chain mails. - Pinkertinkle, on 01/21/2009, -1/+7I guess fiat wants to go bankrupt too
- charlietuna, on 01/21/2009, -0/+6Nah, both companies have die hard fans (I grew up a Chrysler nut) and both firms have ten crappy products for every one that is terrific. It's spotty American engineering with spotty Italian craftsmanship (or vice-versa).
- brandita, on 01/21/2009, -3/+9Crap + Crap = More Crap
- charlesray, on 01/21/2009, -0/+6Ferrari F1 team to be renamed Chrysler Racing, number of cup holders triple.
- e3boy, on 01/21/2009, -0/+6Abarth 500!
http://www.eurocarblog.com/post/1374/top-gear-vote ... - charlietuna, on 01/21/2009, -1/+6Italian crap has style. US crap has a pure flag waving goofiness.
- tonytroz, on 01/21/2009, -0/+5I feel awful, everyone that constantly speeds around recklessly deserves free auto insurance!
If you aren't responsible enough to stay under the point limits, you should be prevented from driving. - sadatoni, on 01/21/2009, -0/+5My first car was a Fiat 850 Spider. I later had a motorcycle with a bigger engine that that car had.
- frostmonkey, on 01/21/2009, -0/+4cowsgonemad...I sell Dodge trucks, and that is an insane amount of weight to be pulling with a 1ton. I dont see how you would be able to effectively slow down that much weight.
The Cummins are beasts that's for sure, but that is ludicrous. Get a truck that is rated for that much weight. - heystoopid, on 01/20/2009, -2/+7Neither Ferrari or FIAT are in any healthy financial state and have been on full taxpayer funded life support since the seventies .
- tinkafoo, on 01/21/2009, -0/+5Pontiac = ..don't have the heart to say it anymore
- odigity, on 01/21/2009, -0/+4That's ironic, because the foundational cause of our economic problems is related to a different Fiat: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiat_currency
- tinkafoo, on 01/21/2009, -1/+5Sebring convertible?
One thing's for sure.. you're not picky. - pinchduck, on 01/21/2009, -0/+4Like finding a boat anchor in the box labeled "Life Preserver" and grabbing it anyway.
- Emachine, on 01/21/2009, -0/+4I want to see the Fiat 500 in North America
- synergye, on 01/21/2009, -1/+4By interior design, do you mean plastic that squeaks terribly two years after purchase?
- w3ber, on 01/21/2009, -0/+3NO
- Cerebron, on 01/21/2009, -0/+3Fiat Spider.
- heystoopid, on 01/21/2009, -0/+2Here I thought FORD stood for "Found On the Roadside Dead" after the Exploder SUV fiasco of the nineties turned out to be very much deadlier on the owners and sporting engine bay fire hazards as well .
- mizike, on 01/21/2009, -0/+3@BioHMMWV: Fiat gets a bunch of manufacturing plants for way cheaper than it would cost to build them and access to a dealer network already in place. This essentially gets them into the American market for a fraction of what it would cost to do it on their own. Remember that Fiat owns the Maserati, Alfa Romeo and Ferrari brands, which they are looking to push in the U.S. as competition for BMW and Mercedes. Also some of the Chrysler brands (Jeep in particular) still have some value.
- pitchblack16, on 01/20/2009, -4/+7Seems like a weird match.
- form3hide, on 01/21/2009, -2/+5Two years? Why are you being so nice?
- inactive, on 01/21/2009, -0/+3Actually being acquired by Daimler gave them the rights to use the old E-body platform and chassis in the 300, Magnum, Charger, and Challenger. Not a bad chassis for a middle market car.
- Headinawheel, on 01/21/2009, -1/+4Daimler sold the majority of their stake to Cerberus I thought.
- makkaveli19, on 01/21/2009, -0/+320% diamler
35% fiat
hopefully they will sort their ***** out now. - protodon, on 01/21/2009, -0/+3Yay Fiat Cinquecento!!
- SEN5241, on 01/21/2009, -0/+3Daimler wrote down their 19% to zero value.
- StigNordas, on 01/21/2009, -3/+6I hope Fiat has shed it's unreliable image from the 70's.
- paulmer2003, on 01/21/2009, -0/+3Yayh! I hope we get Alfa Romeo and Fiat in the US :)
- joncannon, on 01/21/2009, -0/+3The Nuova 500 will make it stateside in a year to two.
- sadatoni, on 01/21/2009, -0/+3Really! That last batch of Chryslers were ugly.
- jbmcb, on 01/21/2009, -0/+3No, Italy takes care of their national industries. Unlike the US, where, of all people, senators give US corporations lectures on fiscal responsibility. That's like MC Hammer scolding Donald Trump for being too extravagant.
