http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n309/uptwolait/ ... - strafefire, on 01/30/2009, -13/+207If I remember, Exxon Mobil only makes 9.8 cents per gallon of gasoline, but the federal government makes 20.3 cents per gallon.
Exxon Mobil 45.2 Billion
Federal Governement: aprrox. 90 Billion (yes, I know Exxon's oil is not just used for gas).
So, congrats to both Exxon Mobil, and the US Federal Government for making record profits this year!
Oh wait...I'm sorry..the Federal Government didn't make *****!
They gave it all away to a bunch or greedy, undeserving ***** who led their companies down into the bottomless pits of HELL!!! - TheSarf, on 01/30/2009, -12/+173Pay attention to their profit margin, not just their profit.
- osko2052, on 01/30/2009, -52/+212Ever hear of capitalism? It's where you run a business to make a profit. Nobody complains when Apple or Microsoft makes a profit.
- sockpuppets, on 01/30/2009, -10/+133Look, we're just trying to have a good old fashion corporate lynching here. We don't take kindly to you "makin sense" types round here.
- inactive, on 01/31/2009, -2/+83i accidentally syntax and grammar.
- mediablitz, on 01/30/2009, -7/+81So why do we give them tax breaks? Why does a company making record profits need a tax break?
- ivankraszl, on 01/30/2009, -10/+67What's wrong with big profits?
- uttles, on 01/30/2009, -20/+75Great job guys! Thanks for providing me with all that oil to make all the plastic for all the cool gadgets I have like my Plasma TV, awesome laptop, blackberry, etc, etc. Oh and the whole being able to drive a car wherever I want to go is freakin awesome! Thanks!
- Scottamus, on 01/30/2009, -9/+57Great, Maybe Exxon should bail us out.
- AWBoy666, on 01/30/2009, -12/+57Great job Exxon. What a well managed and fantastic company. HUUUGE haul for the US government too.
Exxon spends sooo much money on R&D and other important investments. Very important company. - lambchoppe, on 01/31/2009, -2/+40You're right, it is sounds irony
- inactive, on 01/30/2009, -25/+61while all kind of industries (electronics and autos) facing their downfall, exxon mobil pridely announces its huge profit record. is it sounds irony? anyway, good job exxon!
- Surferess, on 01/30/2009, -4/+39Speak for yourself, man.
- sanilio, on 01/31/2009, -4/+37Dearest Exxon Mobil:
My name is Prince Nabil Aadamu Jummai, heir to the last royal family of Yoruba... - EJohn54, on 01/30/2009, -3/+36You know Exxon developed the liner in the lithium ion batteries that power that electric car right?
- zwendkos, on 01/30/2009, -8/+40I don't know whether it's impressive or ***** up that an oil company can make the greatest profit in the history of business during the year of a recession... but I think I'm leaning towards impressive.
- ousthouse, on 01/31/2009, -4/+32Why thank them when you can
1. Enjoy the things oil brings you.
2. Feel morally superior when you say how evil they are.
It's win-win. - brandita, on 01/30/2009, -2/+29At least they won't be asking for a bailout any time soon.
- evilregis, on 01/31/2009, -0/+27In arena's defense, he's from Kuala Lumpur. That said, the mocking replies were still funny as *****.
- yocouchdigga, on 01/31/2009, -3/+30it sounds somewhat pridely... somewhat irony, anyway, good job arena! A winrar is you!
- Dumbledorito, on 01/30/2009, -10/+35Because your daddy's friends in oil helped you get into the White House and they want a little something for their troubles.
- 4t0mik, on 01/30/2009, -4/+28The question that should be asked is....So what? They profit...and they pay over the amount profited in taxes (they paid over 46 BILLION in taxes too!). You want them to fail or stop making huge profits? Fine...stop taking their tax money as well.
Most "tax" states already complain about smokers tax collections going down due the drop in smokers. Imagine how much the "states" and federal government loses when you take oil profits away. - Transporter2000, on 01/31/2009, -3/+26I'm surprised you haven't been dug down for a pro-capitalist comment. What's going on here?
- DarkStar3333, on 01/31/2009, -3/+25They allready are, 2/3 of there profits are given back to the government in taxes. If every company was run as well as Exxon then we would not be in the financial perdictament we are now.
They have a modern adaptable and sustainable business plan. The deserve every dollar. - gfxlonghorn, on 01/30/2009, -1/+21I have no problem riding my bike. I do have a problem when you take my computer away.
- DeathTrick, on 01/31/2009, -4/+24Good to see an American company doing well. When will we start rewarding successful companies and punishing the bad ones? Imagine how much Exxon paid in taxes... Better for everyone than other companies begging for bailouts.
- jahfreeka, on 01/31/2009, -1/+20Exxon's yearly profit for successfully providing energy and chemicals to a world hungry for them = 45 billion
Wall Street bonuses for the worst financial year on record = 18 billion
I need fuel to get to my job and I have no investments. It's hard for me to get upset by oil profits in light of how much Wall Street has diminished the sanctity of my hard earned money through their frenzied efforts to satisfy the overwrought desires of investors for endlessly high returns. - yocouchdigga, on 01/31/2009, -0/+18their profit margin isn't bad and isn't good, it's about 8.5%, which is on par with other large successful corporations.
- ColorBlind, on 01/30/2009, -0/+18agreed.
- mediablitz, on 01/31/2009, -3/+21"So running your business well means we should tax them more than everyone else? "
Who said anything about taxing them more? We give them tax BREAKS. Do you understand the difference? They don't get taxed the same as other businesses. They get to pay LESS tax.
The rest of your rant, based on a false premise, is null. - KingPsyz, on 01/31/2009, -1/+18good thing vasseline is a by product of oil production...
- psion01, on 01/31/2009, -7/+23Remember this during future elections, please.
- arial, on 01/31/2009, -1/+17Go to the pump (bend over), remove nozzle (drop pants), insert your credit card (spread checks), pump (pump)
- TrentDeux, on 01/31/2009, -4/+19Excellent, excellent comment. Especially the rage.
- inactive, on 01/31/2009, -6/+21We should give them a tax cut.
- GravitySpec, on 01/31/2009, -4/+18@gfxlonghorngfxlonghorn
There is a fundamental difference between corporate income and personal income with regard to taxes.
Here is a little rundown:
Corp:
Income - Expenses = Revenue - Taxes
Personal:
Income - Taxes = Revenue - Expenses
Just because their tax rate is high, doesn't mean they are paying what they should. Corporations skirt around taxes by blowing up their expenses so they don't lose their money to taxation. If they are making too much money all they have to do is start some new project that still helps their company and keeps overall revenue down so that money isn't given away as easily.
When someone works their daily grind of a job, they have no choice in how they are taxed. Their income is stripped away from them and expenses just come out of their own net income after taxes. This is mainly why the personal income tax is so messed up. Our country originally didn't have an income tax. To give tax breaks to corporations is just to give them more reason to behave poorly with their gross income. - ousthouse, on 01/31/2009, -3/+16And that's why those nations are now a picture of economic prosperity.
Oh... wait. - yocouchdigga, on 01/31/2009, -1/+14the WHOLE thing!?
D: - illepic, on 01/30/2009, -2/+15Good pic, bookmarking for to explain to others what a 29% margin looks like.
- bellevegasj, on 01/31/2009, -5/+18mediablitz is correct. in a capitalist system, you don't get handouts.
google fascism. - Jamihabs, on 01/31/2009, -1/+14Try putting that pump nozzle into a different hole.
- alexkball, on 01/31/2009, -5/+18Best stock I ever bought.
- EJohn54, on 01/30/2009, -23/+36You know if Exxon controlled our financial system, we would not be in this current financial mess.
- MattFromSeattle, on 01/31/2009, -0/+12@gfxlonghorngfxlonghorn That basically IS what happens when you get a raise - you pay more in taxes. Unless you have a really high salary and then can afford to hire someone to find all the loopholes to shelter your money from being taxed.
- frieddonuts, on 01/31/2009, -3/+15I don't mind that they are a well-managed company, but their work to curb climate change awareness is a disgusting fear-and-doubt campaign. Their lobbying is one of the major reasons that Washington has been so slow to combat ever-increasing carbon emissions.
I know that all of the libertarians on Digg are going to digg me down but I just felt it needed to be said. - Tokenmac, on 01/31/2009, -1/+12Sounds fun and all, but can I ask WHY?
