- jollyholly, on 11/18/2007, -0/+21Honda's got a new jet too. It was missing from the article, but it is on my wish list.. :)
http://hondajet.honda.com/ - meman2, on 11/18/2007, -0/+12For $450,000 you can buy a 25% ownership of an Eclipse 500 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eclipse_500), with a $6,000/mo maintenance fee and $650/hour for the pilots. Still cheaper than buying one of these outright especially if your company is paying for it.
- meman2, on 11/18/2007, -0/+9You have to be much more than a millionaire to afford these - otherwise, you'll make a million, spend it on this jet, go back to having $0 and not be able to afford the $650+/hour fuel costs or the maintenance costs of this aircraft much less be able to live.
- SabbraCadabra, on 11/18/2007, -0/+8Drivers license, yes
Private pilots license and soon instrumental rating, yes
Millions of dollars, no. yet. :) - merreborn, on 11/18/2007, -0/+6The thing I find most exciting about VLJs, is the potential for the development of the "Small aircraft transportation system".
Almost everyone in a town with a population of 10k+ is within 10 miles of a small airport, and yet most of us have to drive over an hour to a major airport. Imagine being able to catch a flight from within your town, to any other town within a few hundred miles. It could change the face of transportation.
More here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Small_Aircraft_Transp ... - JasonHilton, on 11/18/2007, -1/+6This list is missing a LOT of VLJ's. The Diamond Jet, as well as multiple concepts. It's typical blog spam.
- babychen, on 11/18/2007, -0/+4HondaJet is not a VLJ - I think the classification is as a light jet or so... But yes HondaJet is a very interesting plane.
- tehWyman, on 08/19/2009, -0/+4Those really seem cheap to me for some reason even though I'm never going to own one ever in my life. Ever.
- daines88, on 11/18/2007, -0/+4No no no, you don't want a teleporter
http://tinyurl.com/34u2a8 - andrewcsayer, on 11/18/2007, -1/+4I'm still waiting for a teleporter
- falkonv7l, on 11/18/2007, -0/+3At Dayjet you can charter a VLJ for the cost of a First class ticket on one of the big guys. And you can fly whenever you want.
- JrGhoull, on 11/18/2007, -0/+3the avcen jetpod (concept) was in an Arnold Schwarzenegger movie...
- tomasm2005, on 11/18/2007, -1/+3Nice .. I guess I will have to wait till I get my driver's license, my Private Pilot license and then become a millionaire .. If only someone made a cheaper way to fly .. Would do a lot about all that traffic jams.
- carguy84, on 11/18/2007, -1/+3Not at all what I would call "expensive" for jets. More so, scarely cheap.
- imgonnafart, on 11/18/2007, -1/+3The future...? What future? This world is going down the drain. Thank Bush and company for that.
- falkonv7l, on 11/18/2007, -0/+2You know that Eclipse Aviation came up with the term "VLJ"
- daines88, on 11/18/2007, -0/+2You can clearly see that they took the design from a bird... I approve, looks very nice!
Usually the best way to design something is simply to as closely imitate something of nature. - millz, on 11/18/2007, -0/+2I flew the eclipse jet a few months back - it was incredibly an nice airplane.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vObQqnlwowo
I'd be all over it if it weren't for the price.
Heck, I couldn't even afford it if someone gave it to me for free - the operating costs and taxes would be too much. - prisoner24601, on 11/18/2007, -0/+2Ye cannot change the laws of physics captain!
- falkonv7l, on 11/18/2007, -0/+1Yea its a VLJ but costs to 3 million. You can get a Eclipse or Cessna for 1.5 to just over 2 million.
- nicksjain, on 11/18/2007, -0/+1wow.. an example of a classic plane.. i guess i had that much money
- smotpoker1, on 11/18/2007, -0/+1The planes look like the poorest of the plane world. They looked uncomfortable and at that price it better have sex with me or at least wash my balls for me.
- falkonv7l, on 11/18/2007, -0/+1No mention of the one company that is actually in full production http://www.eclipseaviation.com/ Eclipse is right now making one of these jets a day, and has a list of 2600 on order. None of those jet makers are in production yet or at least barley. Even the closest competition is the Mustang from Cessna.
- duke, on 11/18/2007, -0/+1Unfortunately, it has all the beauty and sex appeal of my Honda lawnmower, which are factors not so easily dismissed in the executive jet market.
Some amazing engineering, though!! - bratpack8, on 11/19/2007, -0/+1Yeah, I noticed the flopping wings. Are you kidding me? It's called engineering.
- sanman, on 11/18/2007, -0/+1You mean The 7th Day
Nah, that one had swiveling wings, etc
It was VTOL, whereas this jetpod isn't - slikk115, on 11/18/2007, -1/+2alternatively, it turns out ur gona need 5000 gold to be able to ride the epics.
- inactive, on 11/18/2007, -0/+1I wouldn't say down the drain, but I would say that even if these things seem affordable now, they won't be for "average" people in the near future, either from the devaluation of money, the effective lowering of wages, the increase in cost to fuel them, the regulatory tax and maintenance costs simply to fly them. Sure, some will be able to have them, but by definition it won't be us.
- Veni_Vidi_Vici, on 12/04/2007, -0/+1I'm not sure why you were dugg down, I hate WOW too, but I thought it was creative.
- bratpack8, on 11/19/2007, -0/+1These will revolutionize flying by introducing a new business model, air taxis. While the northeast flying space is overly packed, out west, there is plenty of room for more planes, and I believe they will flourish out here. Imagine not having to go to major airports, and having to spend 2 hours in security, then hopping on with 200 other people. Would any of you spend an extra 10-20% per flight to be on a private plane, flying directly to smaller airports that are closer to your destination? I would.
- bratpack8, on 11/19/2007, -0/+1I have a friend at Adam's Aircraft (the top picture with no description) here in Colorado.
These are going to revolutionize flying, for some good reasons and some bad. Air taxi services will be the new business, ala Warren Buffet's NetJet, but these will be affordable for middle class folks. Would I pay an extra $100 to fly in one of these to Chicago, saving a ton of time, not having to go through security, and all the BS at major airports? Absolutely.
The negative thing is if amateur pilots think these are just like flying props. That is a recipe for disaster. - falkonv7l, on 11/18/2007, -0/+1How cool is that, I work for Eclipse and have not yet flown in one.
- enzomedici, on 11/25/2007, -0/+1You can build a better engine. In 70 years we still have the same ***** jet engine the Nazi's designed in the 40's. Its called engineering and we need to so some. We still cannot take off vertically and cruise at least 5,000 mph? It's *****' 2007 dude and airliners are still cruising at 550 to 600mph. Ridiculous.
- Le3f, on 11/19/2007, -0/+1I think i'll take an epic elite... now where did i put that $1.2 million...?
- cabal911, on 11/23/2007, -0/+1VLJ planes and copters will be used to enforce martial law... Cheney thinks they're divine and loves the way the military can zip them around easily traveling from town to town and neighborhood to neighborhood to keep law and order during these times.
- Enlightenment, on 11/18/2007, -0/+1VLJ are for wannabe's, the real men fly in big jets... http://abcnews.go.com/Travel/story?id=2895948&page ...
- HollowGrind, on 11/18/2007, -1/+1uch slideshows are too unhandy for my short internet attention
- mydave, on 07/28/2008, -0/+0nice, but real pictures?

http://shannonbrookeimagery.com/news/ - nynx, on 11/19/2007, -0/+0If I had a few million and was "comfortable" financially, the last place you'd catch me is in one of these. Sounds like a good way to end the good life in a flaming ball of death! Give me the Singapore airlines bedroom on a plane... oh wait, eww thats gross!
- passedoutghost, on 11/18/2007, -0/+0If the planes turn out to be hangar queens then that'll be an EPIC fail for the company...
- Underdog766, on 11/19/2007, -0/+0Dugg down for the moving pictures.
- KingGorilla, on 11/18/2007, -3/+1Okay they may cost a thousand dollars or two but these excellent breasts are beautiful to look at...
- dimitrisokolov, on 11/18/2007, -3/+0
Still flying at the same speed as jets did in the Fifties. Lame. - exomni, on 11/18/2007, -4/+0Dangerous as hell, and slow to boot.
- Topexnews, on 11/18/2007, -6/+0great idea,
