- SillyRabbits, on 10/10/2007, -2/+66It's much easier to make cheap products when you don't have to worry about pesky regulations and product safety.
- bizzydiggin, on 10/10/2007, -5/+47Yup their cars are as good toothpaste.
- Error601, on 10/10/2007, -2/+31And management that commits "suicide" if they don't follow the party line.
- Error601, on 10/10/2007, -0/+27Uh...same news...considering the first word of the article is Chrysler.
- SteelChicken, on 10/10/2007, -5/+31In Soviet China, Car Crashes YOU! (and you die horribly)
- Infantrydude, on 10/10/2007, -1/+25Nice car and we trust them to process our food formulate toothpaste and make children's toys?
- duggtodeath, on 10/10/2007, -1/+22Nor workers protests or international oversight!
- allaboutdatiki, on 10/10/2007, -8/+28In other news, Chrysler has a deal with Cherry to sell Chinese-built Cherry cars in the US and other countries.
- Terr01, on 10/10/2007, -6/+25Unpossible! Government regulation is always bad! :P
- fulibs, on 10/10/2007, -3/+21Hey China, great job with the gun powder invention, but I think its time to invest some r & d efforts elsewhere.
p.s. Carbon in steel makes it stronger. - eggloaf, on 10/10/2007, -0/+18Walkingdogs + Digg response = Non-sequitur...
- djrisc, on 10/10/2007, -4/+21eventually through hurt, pain, sorrow, and suffering we'll all learn, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. sadly, this includes cheaply produced, pride-less chinese garbage.
- an0nymous, on 10/10/2007, -2/+15Gentleman, behold!
It's the anti-Volvo! - TheRemoteViewer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12Exaggerate much? Sure, there are some serious safety issues with Chinese imports, but to say they intentionally poison our food?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -8/+19What about the F150?
http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=6b2_1186865238&p=1 - randysouth, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11And I'll bet they used lead paint too.
- glasnostic, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13Oh don’t worry. The magical mysterious “market” will solve everything. Just sit back, drive fast, and only those who chose quality vehicles will survive to make another purchase.
- SGagnon, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12And F150 drivers think they are safe because they drive a big vehicle...
- cheddarlump, on 10/10/2007, -2/+11Comment dugg, this made me laugh out loud for the first time in 2 days.. :)
- gibsonic, on 10/10/2007, -7/+16you know, before we blew up Japan in WWII no one in their right mind would buy crap from Japan. It was like the US was a few decades before in an early industrial age method.
China is in that same boat. Though large in number, industrially they are still maturing from a quality and regulations stand point.
They like to point out that the US and other developed countries went through their own industrial revolutions and didn't treat the environment very well and had problems with quality and regulations as well.
Give China another 20-30 years and I think you will see a lot of these issues resolved for good. - shadowhander, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Hmm, who would have thought that a nation with no regard for human rights would share the same disregard for human safety...
- Y0tsuya, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7China does make some good-quality stuff (ISO certification and everything), however they cost just as much as everybody else. Methinks when the Chinese is forced to manufacture everything to western standards they'll lose a lot of their competitiveness.
- PVerdieck, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Chinese Automobiles - The first design to include the driver as a crumple zone.
- vornan19, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Well they are Communist.
In Communist China the Business car crash that kills you be embedding lead based paint. Death most painful. - davidrools, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6and they could use this car to off themselves pretty easily, it seems ;)
- kapowaz, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8Except when most modern-day industralised nations went through that process it was because there was no alternative; there wasn't a super-advanced nation we were all trying to catch up with, the technology simply didn't exist.
In China's case, you have to remember that such industry is being utilised in an entirely different direction: pure, ruthless capitalism. In the case of the US and Western Europe, it was more accurate to say that Imperialism and war were the driving factors towards heavily industrialism. As those motivations shifted, so did industry. But in China's case they already have a system that 'works' and have very little motivation to change. I really can't see China voluntarily switching from dirty but inexpensive and readily available fuels and inethical production practices unless the financial situation makes it foolish not to. - rfolkerts, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I really doubt Chrysler will sell these cars in the US if they get a 1star safety rating in Europe because they will do just as poorly here in the states. and no one will buy this tin can on wheels.
- digggggggggg, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5The whole big vehicle = safe thing is a myth. What you get in good collision ratings, you lose in maneuverability and accident avoidance.
Besides, whatever vehicle you're in, any collision over 60mph and all bets are off. - habbofresh, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5No kidding, I mean, WTF. Why would I trust a car from a country known to produce the cheapest products in the whole world!? Wind-up toys... knockoff eletronics, the entire Walmart stock, etc. etc. etc.
- MikeMacMan, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5That is some scary *****. The passenger compartment is supposed to remain intact in a collision, not turn into a twisted mess of crap.
- FRANKeB, on 10/10/2007, -6/+10So what happens to this car when encountered with a strong gust of wind?
- wiggles, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Hey, Just because China's building them doesn't mean the NTSB will allow them on the road in the US. They need to pass crash testing before they'll sell them here, and we have some of the strictest crash test regulations in the world.
- Verdanic, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I think you'd have a better chance of scrambling into the back seat and taking form of the fetal position rather than using a seatbelt to save yourself.
- shadowhander, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6hey, Chinese people might take offense to some of these posts, if they had the basic freedoms necessary to view this site.
- wageslaven, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4China produces whatever they are instructed to. Your notion of China being a back-water is outdated by about 15 years.
- BESTenemy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4If they are serious about fixing the population problem, they have to start manufacturing buses and trains in a similar fashion.
- digggggggggg, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Nah, sell them huge SUV's that they can barely steer and they'll just plow through the thousands of bicyclists, pedestrians, and motorcyclists on the street.
- paganmonkeyboy, on 10/10/2007, -4/+7we won't do anything - china OWNS us. they stop buying our debt for one week and we tank, and they and us know it...
i guess this is what happens to a nation of debtors and marketing hoes...we get exactly what we wanted - cheap goods for a cheap lifestyle... - Jelfish, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3R&D has slowed down a bit since the cultural revolution.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4It's the one before the current version. There must be tons of them flying around the country.
- lonmoer, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4+1 digg cuz you're stupid
- AdamFromMyspace, on 10/10/2007, -4/+7It's hard to make a car right - it takes tons of R&D and years of experience on the market. Look at the early Kias and Hyundais; they were garbage. Now they're doing MUCH, much better. The Hyundai XG350 is one hell of a nice car. They'll get it right sooner or later.
- CosmicJustice, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Phobic means "afraid of." I haven't seen any post here that indicate any fear of China.
- rderveloy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Detailed crash test results:

If the truck is a 2003 or earlier year model, you should be worried. If it's a 2004 or later, you should be ok. - Scrappy1850, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4sell the cars? to who?! Dr. Kervorkian?
- Scrappy1850, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I feel more safe riding YOUR MOTHER!
- vondur, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Crumpled like a beer can on my forehead!
- digggggggggg, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4How can the Chinese sleep at night?
Oh right, the government drugs them. - bromac, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Who would have thought that by making the bottom line everything, you lose things that are more important than money.
China isn't to fault for this - its the North American demand for cheap goods. Cost cutting usually doesn't mean upgrading the parts... -
