I mean what would happen to all these countries that have been around centuries longer than are own, if we didn't occupy them in the name of liberation and spreading of democracy. In fact lets just invade everyone, change all the regimes, and never fully appreciate that if we don't fix our problems we can't effectively fix others.
- inactive, on 10/22/2008, -2/+78FTA: NEW YORK (Reuters) - Defense contractors Northrop Grumman Corp (NOC.N: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) and General Dynamics Corp's (GD.N: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) quarterly earnings beat Wall Street forecasts, showing few signs that U.S. defense spending will slow, despite the uncertainty of a new administration and a tight federal budget.
The defense unit of Boeing Co (BA.N: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) also posted higher quarterly profit on Wednesday, partly offsetting the effects of a six-week strike at its commercial plane plants, which dragged down its overall quarterly profit. - GovernmentSp00k, on 10/22/2008, -3/+74The entire US economy is in shables. Yet it doesn't hinder war funding efforts right. That never becomes effected. Or victim of "crisis!" As the war profiteers continue to rack up trillion dollars profits from their PNAC manifesto scam, unabated. While US taxpayers are forced against their collective will to fund a $700 billion dollar so-called "bail out" "rescue plan!" to "save the economy."..Now the shysters want to extort us for even MORE. "That's not enough!" they say. What *****.
Over *12 billion* US taxpayer dollars wasted in Iraq every month with no end in sight. Never any 'shortage' of funds for that.
Here's a great way to save the economy: STOP THE ***** WAR. End it already. Enough. Pay down the "bail out" scam by canceling the illegal PNAC war.
Iraq for Sale: The War Profiteers
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-662148672 ... "The story of what happens to everyday Americans when corporations go to war.
Acclaimed director Robert Greenwald (Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price, Outfoxed) takes you inside the lives of soldiers, truck drivers, widows and children who have been changed forever as a result of profiteering in the reconstruction of Iraq. Iraq for Sale uncovers the connections between private corporations making a killing in Iraq (Blackwater, Halliburton/KBR, CACI and Titan) and the decision makers who allow them to do so."
Enemies are necessary for the wheels of the U.S. military industrial complex machine to turn. - sheeplescareme, on 10/22/2008, -1/+62no one is surprised by this, right? the jerks have been raking us over the coals for years. it's what they do best. feed the mic at everyone elses expense and make huge profits.
- redcolumbine, on 10/22/2008, -5/+66Forget the dollar, the yen, and even the barrel. Profits are now measured by body count.
- shylove, on 10/22/2008, -1/+49Sooner or later the time will come when all the bases all over the world and all the high tech contracts and cost plus projects etc will do just what Al Quida is aiming toward. Bankrupt our country unless people decide that the era of the blank defense contract and the goal of global domination and unilateral action gives way to the real world of globalization, the world of mutual shared interests, the end of excessive nationalism and more cultural sensitivity and empathy and compassion, more listening and less knowitallness and saving the world to be the way we want it to be.
- inactive, on 10/23/2008, -2/+39These damned war profiteers are about the only ones hiring these days. I get a call from one of them a couple of weeks ago, for a contract that I was perfect for. Had to tell them I wouldn't work for them for all the oil in Iraq, and furthermore, would be attending a protest at their weapons plant that coming week. Gotta put your money where your mouth is.
- HalleBurton, on 10/22/2008, -0/+28Everything old is new again. Time to read Smedley Butler's War is a Racket if you haven't yet.
Profiting on war should be grounds for treason.

- jeffiek, on 10/23/2008, -5/+26Vote Obama - it will still continue.
Vote McCain - it will still continue.
What is it that people don't get? How long will the madness continue? Until the US implodes like the USSR?
Or can we have a peaceful revolution and progress to the next level of civilization?
http://www.campaignforliberty.org/ - GovernmentSp00k, on 10/22/2008, -1/+21It should be..
- Observant1, on 10/22/2008, -6/+25notice WalMart and other Chinese wholesaler type stocks have been steady with the economic warfare the clintons promoted to make us more unemployed.
- pintomp3, on 10/23/2008, -3/+21add blackwater to that list. isn't privatization great? create a profit incentive for war, expect more war.
- sconnor, on 10/22/2008, -4/+22What comes around, goes around. And I hope death is slow in coming.

- GovernmentsGun, on 10/23/2008, -1/+14Isn't that the point of war? The country is going downhill. What do you do? Funnel treasury money through your war monger buddies before the country crashes.
- hansk, on 10/23/2008, -0/+12absolutely outrageous.
- CoolHandLuke70, on 10/23/2008, -1/+13Well a country's power has always laid in its ability to wage war and this institution will continue to be protected for as long as it is useful. They are individuals who have lost what it is to be human since they have dealt in death for so long.
- omgwtflawl, on 10/23/2008, -2/+13You know whats really capitalist? Governments taxing people at the point of a gun and giving the money to corporations. Oh wait.
- pintomp3, on 10/23/2008, -1/+12perhaps you should look at how these contracts are awarded. no-bid contracts. cost-plus contracts. cheney and rumsfeld have been dreaming about privatizing and outsourcing our defense to their buddies. the day before 9/11 rumsfeld gave a speech at the pentagon about privatizing traditional military and intelligence services. did you know there are more private mercenaries in iraq than soldiers? did you know they operate above the law, having been given immunity from US and iraqi law?
- inactive, on 10/23/2008, -2/+12The New World Order is really the Old World Order. They used to call it "feudalism".
- stormofswords, on 10/23/2008, -1/+9sorry to break the news to you, but the military isn't defending me at all and makes no difference in my day to day life. They aren't securing or protecting my freedoms, in fact, their continued fighting creates a shield to hide behind for people who would gladly restrict my freedoms.
- sarahlee, on 10/22/2008, -0/+7@shylove, I think that time is here.
- enantiodromia, on 10/23/2008, -2/+9except for the airlines, the car makers, the banks, the insurance companies, the brokers, and publicly traded companies, you are totally right
- StewMeat, on 10/23/2008, -0/+7They are not the only ones profiting from war.

- sodade, on 10/23/2008, -0/+7"Profiting on war should be grounds for treason."
Add corrupting our government to the list. - enantiodromia, on 10/23/2008, -0/+5no, our power has always been in defending ourselves.
what we have today is totally different. - inactive, on 10/23/2008, -1/+7@stormofswords
You can't even live in a bunker in the woods, even if you own the land because the government still wants property taxes and will take them by force and kill you if you don't comply. So you think we should just be a-ok with all this? - inactive, on 10/23/2008, -1/+7This is just one more reason we need to end the Fed. The whole system is predicated on a state of never-ending war and the massive government debt that goes with it. What many people should have realized a long time ago is that when they say the war in Iraq cost x billion dollars, that money was borrowed from somewhere and it went somewhere. We're not throwing bundles of 20's at them. At the heart of the system is the same international bankers who run the Fed, loaning money to the US government as fast as they can print it

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FbyQB8e-rQg - jeffbw, on 10/23/2008, -0/+6Yup, that's exactly why we keep having these strange little wars. You can't keep having a massive armaments industry without creating big bad scary enemies and having a war now & then to use up the stocks. People would start to wonder why the gargantuan war machine? Why does a huge proportion of our tax money constantly go to these people? Then they might have to find something productive to do.
- enantiodromia, on 10/23/2008, -0/+5that's not fair dude. what have you done to contribute to our countries safety?
- st3vo, on 10/23/2008, -0/+5Nothing new.. Go get yourself a copy of War is a Racket.. or better yet, here's a pdf..

edit: just saw that someone pretty much posted the exact same thing, enjoy the link though. - sapphire9488, on 10/23/2008, -3/+8Yeah... These are just the worst people in the ***** world.
- enantiodromia, on 10/23/2008, -1/+6well gee, one of them was a wannabe Admiral, whose father was an Admiral, whose father was an Admiral, who were so influential in the United States military they have air fields and bases named after them, who have close ties to other people in their same political party whose families amassed their own power and fortunes in Defense and Oil companies and founded the CIA,
then there is the other guy who... wait, isn't from a long blood line of Defense and Oil families and doesn't have a long history inside his own political party to tie him down. - enantiodromia, on 10/23/2008, -0/+4Unless you own one of these companies, I think you're exaggerating just a little.
- SmilinJoe, on 10/23/2008, -1/+5Soon it'll be like the movie War, Inc.
- LumenMelano, on 10/23/2008, -0/+4Shylove I have been looking for a way to explain the way we should be heading and I think you did it. Kudos and diggs for you!
- einsteinxx, on 10/23/2008, -1/+5 Hmm, sense of pride is what I get when I see things I've worked on keeping American soldiers/citizens safe. Thanks for reminding me of the freedoms we help protect.
- jeffbw, on 10/23/2008, -0/+4The difference between the two is, Obama isn't taking contributions from armaments manufacturers. That said, there's no guarantee he'll be able to do anything about the rest of those creeps.
- jeffbw, on 10/23/2008, -1/+5The whole point of the war, besides putting the oil giants back in charge of Iraq, was to give a bit more of your tax money to the armaments manufacturers.
- profRaisin, on 10/23/2008, -0/+4My father (he's old) remarked recently that all empires who have spent all their money on war have collapsed. Also, Afghanistan is known as the graveyard of empires.
- jeffbw, on 10/23/2008, -0/+4You should invest in "defense" manufacturers?? That's like saying you should join the storm troopers because whatsisname has just become Chancellor. Throw in your lot with Beelzebub because he seems to be the wave of the future. Not gonna end well my friend. Start thinking in terms of something besides iimmediate gratification.
- enantiodromia, on 10/23/2008, -2/+5Classic TSK05; no substance, just insane rant.
it will be fun to see what you have to say once the Democrats aim the money hose at "Green" companies, and away from Defense companies.
i predict it will look something like this:
"TSK05: WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON HERE?! I NEVER VOTED FOR A $12,000,000,000 PER MONTH 'ALTERNATIVE FUEL' R&D BUDGET, THAT IS JUST AN EXCUSE TO SEND MY _HARD EARNED_ TAX DOLLARS TO A BUNCH OF HIPPY-DIPPY LIBERAL COMPANIES, PROFITING FROM A PHONY SITUATION BASED IN LIES AND FALSE DATA (GLOBAL WARMING).
THESE PEOPLE NEED TO BE SHOT FOR RUINING AMERICA!" - MarkOfTheDead, on 10/23/2008, -0/+3I always found it ironic that people that aren't risking the one life they have make truckloads more money by choosing who goes and risks theirs.
- mvader, on 10/23/2008, -0/+2Good lord are you people insane.
Bush acted upon the best intel they had at the time. Of course there were minority reports that said Iraq didn't have WMDs, but you have to go on what looks the best at the time. As is commonly stated, hindsight is 20/20. You cannot stand there and tell me that, given the same information that Bush was given, you would have made the choice to not go after Saddam.
Maybe you don't remember, or maybe you didn't see, but I saw the pictures of Iraqis celebrating in the street after the US deposed Saddam, and saying that Bush was their hero. Now the Iraqis have asked us to leave, and we are leaving. I'm not sure why everyone considers this such a *****. Hell, if you think this was a *****, then what would you have called WWII? More troops died on D-Day than during the entire Iraq war so far.
I can just see the headlines: "Bush says Germany is killing Jews by the millions. Hitler denies!", "Why are we attacking Japan? All they did was protect themselves!"
@yellow
You actually think people went up to Bush and said "We will pay you to start a war with Iraq!" Have you forgotten that most of the Dems voted for the war as well? They were provided with the same intel as Bush, and they voted the same way. Were they lobbied as well? - BigPapi, on 10/23/2008, -0/+3Silly diggers. They only make fighter jets for fly-overs during the national anthem at baseball games.
- enantiodromia, on 10/23/2008, -0/+3you should have done "you're" English homework before posting
but seriously, you aren't convincing anyone here you are doing well in this environment.
as far as doing homework, people much much much much a thousand-time much smarter than you did their homework and still got burned, because the sub-prime bubble was so incredibly complicated that people who have been experts in this field could not see the whole picture.
sure, you can come back with some 20/20 hindsight, but i'm willing to wager $700,000,000,000 you don't even understand that even after it's been all laid out for you. -
