irs.gov — I saw this on one of my deal sites that I frequent. Adjusted Gross Income of $52,000 or less, there is Free File. Free File is online tax preparation and electronic filing through a partnership agreement between the IRS and the Free File Alliance, LLC.

  • cubbieco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've used the freefile for a few years now (including this year). It's the same online software you pay $10-$20 for, the same electronic filing, but all free. I've also done co-workers taxes using the free service.

    I'm an accountant and I would recommend everybody try this out first before paying for software / somebody else to do it. The only down side is that it is not free for your state taxes.
  • excav8, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I decided to try TurboTax Online since it will do both my federal and state filing for free. It's working so far using Firefox 2.0 on Ubuntu 6.10, despite Intuit's multiple warnings to the contrary.
