- theberlindoctor, on 02/10/2009, -3/+121Never underestimate the ability of a good designer to pull ***** out of their ass.
- maximilliontee, on 02/10/2009, -1/+55I particularly was impressed with the diagram showing the Pepsi logo having gravatitational pull...
- juliem728, on 02/10/2009, -4/+58Huh? Does this make sense to anyone?
- ryan83189, on 02/11/2009, -1/+46They have it all wrong. The earth's magnetic field ripped off of pepsi's logo.
- richgustavson, on 02/11/2009, -2/+46Haha, I love the Onio... wait, wat?
- nova912, on 02/11/2009, -1/+44It looks like someone took the logo into photoshop, rotated it CC 40 degrees, then tried to understand how the vector tool worked ... said ***** it ... and called it the "Pinnacle Of Entire Universe!"
- groverblue, on 02/10/2009, -1/+43damn, Pepsi got *****....
- Ragarnok, on 02/10/2009, -0/+32Well, apparently all the designers for pepsi's new logo also have a degree in astrophysics, and thus created a logo that hints at the subtle changes in earth's magnetosphere, or you know they just made the whole thing up
- kdamp, on 02/11/2009, -2/+28You realize this is all a joke / viral marketing, right?

- boojoy, on 02/11/2009, -1/+24One wonders if they created the logo first, then worked backwards and found all sorts of stuff through history the looked sort of like the logo. The alternative, of course, is that they started by looking at the magnetic pull of the earth and other materials like it and went from there. Which version of the story is true would determine if I would leave any of their employees alone with my children.

I've just been baffled with *****. - pintocat, on 02/11/2009, -0/+17This is the real inspiration for the new logo:
http://www.suckatlife.com/pepsiLogoBlowatlife.html - CoD4, on 02/11/2009, -0/+16I'd buy a thousand pepsi cans if this was the logo
- skersh, on 02/11/2009, -0/+15If you follow the link and check out the PDF, it's just more gold. Look at the "Perimeter Oscillations" section. I would LOVE to have heard that part of the presentation...
"As you can see, we can make circles in photoshop". - freezerburn666, on 02/11/2009, -3/+17i'll have a coke please. oh you only have pepsi? ugh, okay, root beer i guess.
- inactive, on 02/11/2009, -0/+9I'll bet it was the marketers.
- solid12345, on 02/11/2009, -1/+9Please, we are UNDERPAID, how many times have I heard a client say 1,000 dollars is "too much" for a logo. What, *****, you paid 500 dollars for an office desk, and suddenly you think 1,000 is too much to ask to design a logo that will brand your business and set you apart from all the ma and pop shops?
I do agree many design houses overcharge but most of us are fiending for clients and work like crackheads, finding a client is half the job in itself. - KingHarvest00, on 02/11/2009, -2/+9It makes sense to me as a designer. It's completely ***** insane on many levels, but I can totally see how they got there, and for a company like Pepsi it might even make sense. This document shows the abstract thinking behind the concept. It's not *****, and it was probably never meant to serve as a pitch to the client. They would have received something much more comprehensible.
That said, I don't particularly like the logo. It just doesn't look very good. - Vidalsassgirlie, on 02/11/2009, -0/+7I understand. Their marketers got a BA in BS.
- CynicSight, on 02/11/2009, -0/+6Christ, I hope so.
- nesagwa, on 02/11/2009, -0/+6Nope.
If you left design to the coders things would all look like *****. - lostarchitect, on 02/11/2009, -2/+8This is the kind of stuff that in your first year of design school you get praised for. If you present this in your last year, the critics will tear you a new ***** with their teeth.
- Stoyanov, on 02/11/2009, -0/+5Impressive. The full documentation in PDF: http://bunnitude.com/misc/files/pepsi_gravitationa ...
- T-Maaz, on 02/11/2009, -1/+6My first thought when I saw it on a 2 liter at the grocery store: "oh hell, that label must have gotten caught in the printer and warped the Pepsi log... um... *seeing all the logos on all the other bottles looking like that* oh god, did they actually do that on purpose?!?"
The Pepsi logo lost it's punch when they took it off the "bottle cap" design from the 60's -- it's sadly gotten more and more weak over time. This one... well, it's a travesty. Between the warped "i just learned how to use the pen tool in Illustrator" design and the rounded, thin font, it looks like what people used to create as "futuristic" designs back in the 60's... and even at that, it fails pretty bad. - inactive, on 02/11/2009, -0/+5My first thought: "Seamonkey makes a soda? http://magnafandy.files.wordpress.com/2008/10/seam ...
- Lesli, on 02/11/2009, -1/+6Making something extremely "profound" out of the seemingly insignificant is part of the job description. That's why there's a direct correlation with a designer's price and their ability to *****.
Corporate branding documents are always a good laugh. - MrChunks, on 02/11/2009, -0/+4I know where these tossers got their "Breathtaking Design Strategy" from - the postmodern essay generator: http://www.elsewhere.org/pomo/

If one examines the dialectic paradigm of Pepsi, one is faced with a choice: either reject socialism or conclude that consciousness is capable of significant form. Thus, if precultural capitalist theory holds, we have to choose between neocultural Marxism and textual subdialectic theory. Lacan uses the term ’socialism’ to denote the bridge between class and society.
It could be said that the subject is interpolated into a materialist paradigm of discourse that includes art as a paradox. The main theme of Dahmus’s critique of postcultural theory is not, in fact, construction, but postconstruction.
In a sense, the subject is contextualised into a that includes consciousness as a totality. The premise of precultural capitalist theory suggests that sexual identity has intrinsic meaning, but only if Derrida’s essay on subcapitalist nationalism is valid; otherwise, Lyotard’s model of precultural capitalist theory is one of “the constructive paradigm of narrative”, and thus fundamentally meaningless.
It could be said that Sontag promotes the use of postcultural theory to analyse truth. The premise of socialism implies that the Constitution is a legal fiction. - V1ncent, on 02/11/2009, -0/+4I guess the marketing company went bonkers to "show their work" when asked why they should get $20million to design such a simple logo...
- lostarchitect, on 02/11/2009, -4/+8or, more honestly, a poor one.
- inactive, on 02/11/2009, -0/+4The whole thing is probably viral crap anyway.
- mojoel, on 02/11/2009, -0/+4Pepsi might have been baffled at first, but they fell for it, apparently.
- Travelsonic, on 02/11/2009, -1/+4Though to be fair, the typeface/font has been used before by Pepsi, or at least a very close variant. A old design for Diet Pepsi used it.
- jasdf, on 02/11/2009, -0/+3Bingo! Just like the current US Air Force logo. It is a stylized version of the 1940's "Hap Arnold" wings. Some graphic artist made a cool logo and then some jackasses made up a bunch of ***** that the different parts of the logo mean in order to sell it to a general.
Hap Arnold Wings: http://www.af.mil/shared/media/ggallery/hires/afg_ ...

http://www.af.mil/shared/media/ggallery/hires/AFG- ... - oninbonin, on 02/11/2009, -0/+3Right, they could've paid me millions to draw a ***** circle, tilt it, and put a split down the middle at an angle. 'Breathtaking'...what? Just goes to show how much ***** money is blown on advertising. Or is this a joke?
- Games4Life, on 02/11/2009, -0/+3Dr. Pepper
- enrico, on 02/11/2009, -0/+3There was a link to the pdf at the bottom of the article
http://bunnitude.com/misc/files/pepsi_gravitationa ... - enrico, on 02/11/2009, -1/+4I can't decide whether or not this is real. I kind of want to believe its a piss poor parody.
- garlicdeath, on 02/11/2009, -0/+3I'll have a crab juice.
- Gravey9, on 02/11/2009, -0/+3I don't think you understand what "/" does in this case.
- LilRabbitFooFoo, on 02/12/2009, -0/+3And I guarantee you, this is all stock art used by the same marketing firm in order to justify ALL of their logo designs for clients...
- cadmiumpaint, on 02/11/2009, -0/+3I saw this a couple of weeks ago and i was just like WTF is this? I understand what a branding guidelines book is supposed to be and what it does..hell i've made a few, but this is just some straight up over conceptualized B.S. I can see some of the connections and what they were trying to do, but i think every part is a stretch. The mark is kind of bland. I think they did lots of over complicated b.s. "ideation" to justify the huge creative bill they were going to send to pepsi. Whoever sold that is one hell of a great con. In another life he went town to town and selling moonshine and called it "medicinal elixir" i'm sure.
- dinot, on 02/11/2009, -2/+5or, more honestly, a ***** brilliant one.
- Hyperion1144, on 02/11/2009, -3/+6Marketing... The biggest ***** field of study ever.
And remember, all this work, time, thought and effort: It was done only to make us buy more high-fructose-sweetened crap that will make even fatter than we already are.
Is there any field of study more useless than this? - jggr, on 02/11/2009, -4/+6Coke vs Pepsi vote thread?
+1 Pepsi.
/Oh, and anubis2night... Accidentally reported you as offensive. Oops... I'll buy you a Pepsi to make up for it. ;) - lofilotek, on 02/11/2009, -0/+2This advertising campaign is plastered every where in San Francisco. Lets just say this document is legit, how does it even begin to explain the one word slogans being used in the adds with the new logo. Hope???? Hope for a new logo, new refreshment with a new logo? How about Hope, no one can really prove we are riding Obama's campaign.
- angusm, on 02/11/2009, -1/+3Designing the logo: 5 minutes, at a cost of $3 for a cocktail napkin and some colored markers.
Thinking up an elaborate hand-waving justification based on the Golden Section: 2 weeks, $1,000,000.
Getting a huge corporation to put this travesty on every product they ship: PRICELESS - subat0mic, on 02/11/2009, -0/+2well. no. really it IS based on the obama logo.
now they want to cover that up, AND get free advertising from digg and reddit by posting this after-the-fact fake marketing document online...
seriously. AWFUL logo. I kept wondering why obama was still running ads... - SunSparrow, on 02/11/2009, -0/+2Wow, this is awesome. They've taken what I've always believed (that Pepsi is and always will be the pinnacle of human achievement), and put it into words, charts, graphs... finally there is proof!
All hail Pepsi, the infallible and inexpressibly awesome beverage which everyone should drink infinite quantities of.... ahhh...
