I'd also add to the list, though, that you can set expectations with new clients about your work hours. If your workday is 5 am - 2 pm, tell them so they'll know when to expect a response. Regardless, you're going to get calls outside your preferred hours, but you can choose not to answer if you're upfront about it.
- lOvOl, on 11/09/2007, -0/+3I thought this would be a useless article, but it turned out to be reflect some of the hard-learned lessons I eventually became acquainted with in the past when I used to work at home. The most important things are that your work computer have no games and your work room have no television. If you need to take a break, you go into another room and relax, but never relax in your work area. This is under the same principle with regards to getting a good nights sleep where you only use your bedroom for sleep and sex (i.e no TV, computer, or anything else your mind could focus on and therefore keep your mind preoccupied on).

- roeboedog, on 11/09/2007, -0/+2I couldn't stop laughing at the showering part.
- willscottsi, on 11/09/2007, -0/+2I communicate my work time to clients 7 AM - 11 PM :)
- sysconnected, on 11/09/2007, -0/+1I'm totally agree with lOvOl. You should avoid distraction at home, keep the refrigerator as far as possible.
- dominoman44, on 11/09/2007, -0/+1Everyone wants the big dream, but lots of people don't take or don't know how to do the things they need to do to accomplish it.
- liquidjamm, on 11/09/2007, -0/+1LOL; I am working off site at the moment. On-call was a bitch last nite.
- indyGuy, on 11/09/2007, -0/+1Sorry, man, but all the rules make it seem like ... work :/
- Gyanish, on 11/10/2007, -0/+0This article is very well outlined. I never considered deliminating a work space in my home before!
- DeathfireD, on 11/09/2007, -1/+1I agree, you need to establish steady work hours and make your clients know what they are. I'm currently having problems with this right now. I keep changing the times I normally work to please my clients but this pays a huge tole on me. So I'm slowly transitioning into a "set work time" and telling my clients this is when I work and this is when you can get a hold of me.
