- JoeNaguib, on 11/11/2009, -0/+74“…it seems the only clear way to revive this global recession is to re-brand and re-design.”
Creative Strategy Consultants are not Economists. - frousfroud, on 11/11/2009, -1/+45"The architect of the dollar redesign project turned to social media and the web for a solution."
Yeah I don't see this going anywhere. - Nintendesert, on 11/11/2009, -0/+34"With faith in the US dollar hitting new lows, some believe the solution lies not in politics, but in design."
And this is why we're broke. - bjornski, on 11/11/2009, -0/+25"...some believe the solution lies not in politics, but in design"
And some are morons. Changing what it looks like won't change how people think about it.
But then again, these pics DO make them look like credit cards. Maybe they ARE on to something. - Dr3w, on 11/11/2009, -17/+38While we're at it, can we please remove "In God We Trust"?
- ninjaturtles1, on 11/11/2009, -1/+22How about this design?
http://www.gold-bullion.org/images/goldBullionDeal ... - mattman6, on 11/11/2009, -1/+20This is ridiculously stupid. Large scale economic factors determine what the dollar is worth, not the design of the physical bills. And on large scales all the money is electronic anyway, nobody is counting out hundreds.
Buried. - Ghostwo, on 11/11/2009, -0/+14Something about a new design featuring pedobear and face-palm Picard just doesn't seem to fit right...
- BREZZZ, on 11/11/2009, -1/+13The first look like credit cards.
- Bartboy919, on 11/11/2009, -0/+12Can we go back to when we had titties on our money?
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/3/31/1896 ... - jman491, on 11/11/2009, -3/+14As long as they have the same people (Washington, Lincoln, Hamilton, Jackson, Grant, Franklin) on the same denominations along with some national symbols, anything goes as far as I'm concerned.
- 1ofMany, on 11/11/2009, -0/+11Am I the only person who thinks that making our currency look like a Gift Certificate from a shopping mall is just a waste of our taxpayer money?
- awerican, on 11/11/2009, -0/+10I'm trying to imagine a movie scene where the briefcase of cash is full of these things. Just doesn't seem as cool.
- Arachnivore, on 11/11/2009, -0/+9They look like mid-nineties screen savers.
- fragMasterFlash, on 11/11/2009, -1/+10Can we put a Subway logo on the new $5 and call it the 'sammich'?
- prisoner24601, on 11/11/2009, -0/+9We had a deficit of 1.4 trillion last year. Our national debt is up to almost 12 trillion. Our congressional "leadership" raises the debt ceiling without hesitation every few years so they can spend even more money we don't have and saddle a yet-to-be-born generation with over $40,000 and counting in personal debt each...
...and these guys think we have a marketing problem because of the "look and feel" of our currency?
Wow. Just... wow. - Taiyoryu, on 11/11/2009, -2/+10And restore the pledge.
- Bartboy919, on 11/11/2009, -0/+8LEAVE MONEY ALONE!!!
- ryanonfire, on 11/11/2009, -1/+8Why would you want to revive a global recession wouldn't you want to revive a strong economy?
- WeBeGood, on 11/11/2009, -0/+7They forgot to include the $200, $500 and $1000 bills that we will be needing soon.
- CAIndependent, on 11/11/2009, -0/+7I fully expected this to be an Onion article
- sanman, on 11/11/2009, -1/+8like monopoly money
- Bananapatata, on 11/11/2009, -1/+7The winner's design had to be one of the worst. It looks like it was designed by a five year old.
- Nova437, on 11/11/2009, -0/+6Dumb. I support the current dollar design.
- bjornski, on 11/11/2009, -0/+6I'm sure it's no coincidence. I thought so too.
The very first thought that snapped into my head was "Visa". - kemp34, on 11/11/2009, -0/+6The people who come up with these "ideas" must be very heavily medicated.
- scott1, on 11/11/2009, -3/+9I always thought E pluribus unum was cooler and made more since(latin translation:Out of many one) I mean In God We Trust just makes no sense and is kind of random in a way
- Ghostalker, on 11/11/2009, -0/+6People have been telling Washington to fix the dollar for years now. I don't think the people in charge understood the message.
- tourettes1992, on 11/11/2009, -1/+7leave the $1 alone
- copypastry, on 11/11/2009, -1/+6Then they won't be able to make fun of other countries' fruity looking money.
- kelly, on 11/11/2009, -2/+7ummm. no.
- 2Bnor2B, on 11/11/2009, -0/+5Casinos have known this for a long time.
If money does not look like real money, people are more likely to spend it. - L0NER, on 11/11/2009, -2/+7With that design, anyone who knows how to use Illustrator's blend tool can counterfeit a bill
- Fythian, on 11/11/2009, -5/+9First thing is to get rid of the $1 for a coin. Second is to get rid of the penny. Beyond that, I really don't know.
- avengingturnip, on 11/11/2009, -0/+4Or they went to top business schools. Produces the same quality of thought.
- spookyttws, on 11/11/2009, -1/+5It's an interesting idea, but the world of graphic design is constantly changing. Cool new formats and revolutionary designs work in the short term, but quickly go out of style. Look at graphic artist's websites every 3-5 years since 1998. The examples on this article look like wallpapers included in Vista. Yeah they are modern, but in 5 years, when Adobe comes out with the next version of Illustrator, those bills will look really dated. I'm all for a new design, but it needs to be truly revolutionary to last, not just the current graphic artist's fad.
- Haz3rd, on 11/11/2009, -0/+4Look at all that pink and pruple.
Our money sure it gay... - Suricou, on 11/11/2009, -0/+4It was changed in the 1950s, at the height of the red scare. 'Out of many, one' sounded far too collectiveist at the time, and collectiveism was considered one step away from communism, making it completly unacceptable. So it was de-emphesised, and replaced with 'In God we Trust,' as that's about as un-communist a national motto as could be found. Basically it's raising the national middle finger at those godless commies over in the soviet union.
- GeekvsDork, on 11/11/2009, -0/+4Seems like some friends of ours already have.
http://thebeattitude.files.wordpress.com/2009/07/e ... - Identity4, on 11/11/2009, -1/+5And how much is this redesign going to cost?
- wdninja, on 11/11/2009, -1/+4Maybe we should trade in the dollar for something with value instead.
- decoy26517, on 11/11/2009, -1/+4I take it you don't think that individuals like Thomas Jefferson, Susan B. Anthony, Benjamin Franklin, James Madison or JFK are not intellectuals, scientists or generally important people?
- Elranzer, on 11/11/2009, -0/+3Is part of the new dollar design renaming it to the Amero?
- avengingturnip, on 11/11/2009, -0/+3Seriously, what would be wrong with this?
http://www.utterer.org/wp-content/uploads/2008/06/ ... - NeoNevermore, on 11/11/2009, -0/+35...
- kemp34, on 11/11/2009, -0/+3Spit shining a turd results in a spit shined turd.
- Ramenboy005, on 11/11/2009, -0/+3whats with the winners having pictures of famous European immigrants instead of presidents?
- Junior612, on 11/11/2009, -0/+35 Dollar
- kemp34, on 11/11/2009, -1/+4How about just freedom from government-enforced corporatist debt-based fiat monopoly?
- inactive, on 11/11/2009, -0/+3People would take better care of their money if naked titties was all over it. Money would be a lot stickier though.
