- brocklese, on 12/01/2007, -4/+29Just get it over with... I want the office
- dotlizard, on 12/01/2007, -0/+19frickin' LA. couple drops of water hit a passing pedestrian and all of a sudden they've got newscrews roaming the streets interviewing folks. "water! from the sky! how are you handling this crisis?!?"
and yeah i live in So Cal. I'm just a little ashamed of how we whine about not much weather at all. - SupaFurry, on 01/23/2008, -1/+16Unions exist to STOP people from being exploited - not the other way around. This writers strike is an example of this - a strike which you support.
If it weren't for unions in other job sectors, a lot more people would be without vital benefits they do need - such as healthcare. - fotbr, on 12/01/2007, -2/+7Thats why they're created, and in some fields, still needed. But the unions do abuse their power -- the best example is the UAW, which has corrupt and power-hungry leadership.
The airline unions, on the other hand, tend to be a little more reasonable in their demands, and are much more willing to negotiate.
You cannot pretend that abuses of union power do not happen, and you cannot claim that all unions are good. Likewise, they're not all bad either. - Brodels, on 12/01/2007, -0/+4It's the same when it snows in the UK, everyone wets their pants and forgets how to drive.
- Rikushix, on 12/01/2007, -8/+11Normally I'm not one for unions (can't stand a system where people can exploit it to get benefits that they don't really need - a shut down of the transit/education/health sector every three years is just stupid and selfish), but even a quick foray into the background of this strike shows that the writers are clearly in the...er..."right", so to speak. Hollywood: open your damn wallet.
And furthermore I may go insane if I don't get some Office or Heroes soon. - isaactwito, on 12/01/2007, -2/+5It's blizzarding where I live in MN right now and people are driving around and debating whether to go sledding or sledding, not whining about how it's so dangerous to drive in a few inches of rain. California is full of pussies.

Let me make sure I'm clear: You're say the writers are being greedy for a) wanting the full rate that the studios promised the back in the 80s the studio, and b) wanting to make sure the studios don't screw over the same on online video? Come on -- they're asking for 4¢ on a DVD sale and .025 percent of of online sales. That's point-oh-two-five percent -- not even a full three percent. The greedy ones are the studios who refuse to give 4¢ to the people who put that $20 DVD sale in their pocket.
@ChimpFlix
Can't cut it? Then why is the industry shutting down one show at a time? Out of sympathy for those who don't have what it takes? No, it's shutting down because the people who *can* cut it are striking. - actorboy, on 12/01/2007, -0/+3bingo: You're wrong. They said how much they were asking for from the beginning: .025%
- Slick50, on 12/01/2007, -0/+2Uh, thought about moving then? Sounds like you're the only one whining.
- mattmollysdad, on 12/01/2007, -0/+2a little rain? it was 1/2" and all hell broke out on PCH. People were driving backwards, up on sidewalks, backing into telephone polls... we can't take rain... help! ( I always wanted to be a writer )
- justinlarsen, on 12/01/2007, -0/+2Actually I think it rained here 3 years ago, this is the first time since.
- Klowner, on 12/01/2007, -4/+6Are you more of a poop and fart joke type of person?
- SupaFurry, on 01/23/2008, -0/+2Corruption happens in all organisations where greedy humans exist - I do not deny that. But unions are a force for good overall. That the leadership of some unions is corrupt is not an argument against unions. Likewise, that some democracies have corrupt leaderships is in no way an indictment of democracy as a form of government.
- isaactwito, on 12/01/2007, -1/+3haha, sorry, sledding or skiing, not sledding or sledding.
and for all you from california sledding is when you sit on something and go down hills covered with snow. skiing is like water skiing without the boat and, like sledding, you go down hills covered with snow. - Devin, on 12/02/2007, -0/+1This article is false. I'm working on something for Screen Gems so my office is at Sony Studios and there wasn't a writer to be seen there at all yesterday. If there were, you'd see pictures of them!
- Koganei, on 12/02/2007, -0/+1I'd rather have a 6-episode season of Lost than no episodes at all.
- Jrr6415sun, on 12/01/2007, -0/+1i think this video sums it up the best http://youtube.com/watch?v=F28kCLTd_Dk
- SupaFurry, on 01/23/2008, -0/+1Bless you
- inhaler, on 12/01/2007, -2/+3Just don't let the Pinkertons infiltrate your union or we'll have another Homestead strike.
- endlessoul, on 12/01/2007, -0/+1That's what it's like in Upstate NY. There's horrendous snow and crappy weather in winter (and fall and spring). When the first snow falls, no one can remember how to stay on the road whilst not hitting anyone else.
- ioannusdeverani, on 12/03/2007, -0/+1These communists are ruining my television!
- Jrr6415sun, on 12/01/2007, -1/+2um they're asking for the same percentage they receive when it's played on TV, everyone knows what they want and everyone knows they are reasonable. The studios are just being dicks.
- Mikejoneswho5, on 12/01/2007, -0/+1Its obvious, all the writers are at Starbucks!
- inactive, on 12/01/2007, -0/+1why pick on triggerstreet? DOZENS of sites are rigging the system, and have been for over a year now.
- ChimpFlix, on 12/01/2007, -1/+2The WGA, like SAG, is just a refuge for writers who can't cut it. If the market for their craft isn't big enough to support them, they need to get out and rethink their career path. I cannot support any of these guilds.
- djAnakin, on 12/01/2007, -0/+1Perhaps you should RTFA. They're not not picketing. They were at Sony. Just because they weren't at this one location this random blogger happened to drive by, doesn't mean they're not picketing.
- djAnakin, on 12/01/2007, -0/+1"I like seasons too much"
"Me too! Thats why I live in a place that skips the ***** ones."
Pilot85: Move then. THere's a reason Iive in Southern California. I'm in shorts and a tshirt right now. Just got done mowing my lawn. - OsakaWilson, on 12/01/2007, -0/+1Good to see that the studio's PR people are hard at work.
- inhaler, on 12/02/2007, -1/+1No, I just don't think everything Steve Carell is in is funny. Case and point: Evan Almighty.
- djAnakin, on 12/01/2007, -1/+1As much as I am on the writers side, that was the worst blog post ever. Here, let me rewrite it to get to the point faster:
"Blah blah blah. They're all at Sony."
See? Much easier. - RyeBrye, on 12/01/2007, -3/+3I have no sympathy whatsoever for the writers. Their selfishness is shutting down an entire industry. The people feeling it right now are obviously the cameramen, and other people involved in show-biz that aren't writers... but others will feel it soon too - such as industries built-up to support those people.
They can all drive their porsches off a cliff for all I care. There is plenty more talent waiting in the wings to replace them. - loreli21, on 04/25/2008, -0/+0Their selfishness is shutting down an entire industry. - RyeBrye, on 12/01/2007, -1/+1Lost only has a few episodes, not the entire season. So if you want a 6-episode season of Lost, you can continue to cheer.
- rookworm, on 12/01/2007, -2/+1Who cares about the writers' union???? If you want to support writers, the turn off the idiot box, and buy a frickin' book!
- Koganei, on 12/01/2007, -2/+1The question is not whether they are right or not, but rather by how much they are right.
The talks between the two sides are to find a midpoint, not to bring the other into his camp.
Hopefully that'll happen soon so we can watch all our favorite shows again.
If the strike stays on next season, only Lost will have new episodes. Lost++; - slgalt, on 12/15/2007, -1/+0There are at least 5 videos showing them at Sony. These elderly writers deserve respect!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F5lc0posMJk - Pilot85, on 12/01/2007, -2/+1getting 6 inches of snow in ND today. It'll probably hover around -10 F - -20F next week. So Cal can sop whining.
- slgalt, on 12/15/2007, -1/+0They were all at Sony you idiots!
It was the Hollywood Homecoming Day and even the elderly writers stood in unity on the line.
How about some fact checking?
Greedy corporate spin is easy to spot - don't be a chump. - charlesnorbert, on 12/01/2007, -2/+1They only have to picket 20 hours a week. Seeing as it rains once every thirty years in Los Angeles, they ust didn't want to get wet. WEIRD.
- Rikushix, on 12/01/2007, -4/+2Hear hear.
- RyeBrye, on 12/01/2007, -4/+2If your job doesn't have the benefits you want or need... SWITCH TO ANOTHER JOB. If you have no skills that are valuable at another job, then learn more skills. If an employer has a problem with people leaving, they can increase their compensation packages to the point where qualified people will stay... that's how a free-market economy works.
In almost all industries where they exist, Unions create market distortions. They create a dead weight burden on society, and in the end we all pay for the associated costs. - tsunami643, on 12/01/2007, -4/+2Maybe a little cherry chocolate rain would change their minds.
- Typhoon2009, on 12/01/2007, -5/+2Ah, but they can't just get better wages, first we must wage (ha!) war against the pirates who have made all of Hollywood's workers and actors live on bread crumbs and water!
Note for the slow: That was sarcasm. I don't always agree with unions because often they cry about the smallest things, but I really don't see why Hollywood can't just give them their bone. 24 was the only thing that made Mondays good, and now it's postponed indefinitely :( - HappyScrappy, on 12/01/2007, -4/+1Time to give them the ole PATCO treatment.
- RollFizzlebeef, on 12/01/2007, -8/+5This just in:
triggerstreet.com is either paying Digg, or rigging the system. - inactive, on 12/01/2007, -4/+1A little foray into what? All the blogs written by the WRITERS? It is hysterical everyone automatically siding with the writers simply becuase they read the writer's stance.
Have you noticed that the writers have never revealed how MUCH they were asking for from internet revenue? For all we know, their number was so outrageous that the studios HAD to reject it out of hand. (Remember, whatever the writers get, the directors and actors will demand as well)
With any union strike the striking members will cry a river about how horrible the corporation is being. And almost always it is a big exaggeration and they never say what their demands were, which are usually unreasonable. - coit, on 12/01/2007, -5/+2Apparently they are waiting tables or something to earn a living. Kudos to Hollywood for standing up to the overpaid whiners...
