- Dysarthria, on 12/15/2008, -1/+17Considering it took them 14 year to figure this out, how 'bout they just focus on rolling jets out on time for now?
- djhomeless, on 12/16/2008, -0/+14That would be cool, but how about some power plugs back in coach.
- LanceUppercut, on 12/16/2008, -0/+10I bought seats that were $25 more each because they had a 110v power jack and I could watch movies on my laptop for my 10 hour flight instead of it my laptop dying after 4 and sitting there doing nothing for 6 hrs.
Otherwise I would have probably went nuts and choked out the fat guy that always seems to be seated next to me who stands for the entire flight with his ass 3 feet from my face. - durruticolumn, on 09/18/2009, -0/+10
I'd much prefer Wi-Fi on trains. I can go 2 hours without internet, but I'd much rather take a 16 hour train ride if I could get online. - divinediva, on 12/15/2008, -0/+10Delta Airlines has become the first major U.S. air carrier to announce plans for fleet-wide in-flight Wi-Fi service.
- BayouBengal, on 12/16/2008, -0/+10Hmmm, I guess this blows the 'myth' the airline perpetrate that devices that transmit radio frequency can interfere with cockpit instruments. I already knew that it was a phony myth but they still won't fully admit it.
- BayouBengal, on 12/16/2008, -0/+8If high speed rail were affordable and available outside of the northeast it'd be great. I only live a 4 hour drive away from my family but I'd love to be able to take a train and catch a nap and not have to deal with traffic.
- cubicledrone, on 12/16/2008, -5/+12$12.95? LOL
Fail. - inactive, on 12/15/2008, -1/+8Awesome news. Now if we could only get rid of TSA too, or at least make it sane.
- Drakk0n, on 12/16/2008, -0/+6I can see some jackass in the seat net to me trying to get Skype to work over this and thus talking the entire flight wondering why the person on the other end keeps breaking up.
- Chairboy, on 12/16/2008, -0/+6Shucks, 14 minutes.
- Chairboy, on 12/16/2008, -3/+9Let's start the countdown for the first post whining about people using VoiP or playing multiplayer games in flight and complaining how it will interfere with other passengers.
I'm guessing it'll be less than 10 minutes, but I'd like to be wrong. - nofx1510, on 12/16/2008, -0/+5Guess not.
- phantom_mullet, on 12/16/2008, -0/+5Wait...I always thought that sort of stuff interfered with their navigation equipment...
/s - stukdog, on 12/16/2008, -0/+5Every two month I fly from Vegas to Boston. I'd gladly pay $12.95 for wifi on that flight. This can't come soon enough.
- BayouBengal, on 12/16/2008, -0/+4Absolutely. I am against cellphone use on planes so that I may keep my sanity. I know many people love the isolation for at least a few hours. Many people get lots of work done or like me I get some really good reading in. As much as I love technology, I enjoy being shutoff sometimes.
- jfdolier, on 12/15/2008, -3/+7I fly America Ai every chance I get.
- slantyeyed, on 12/16/2008, -0/+4what about in-seat power plugs?
- BayouBengal, on 12/16/2008, -0/+4Or porn.
- r1y23, on 12/16/2008, -0/+4Because now the terrorists can google how to blow up an airplane in flight?
- inactive, on 12/16/2008, -1/+5Yeah it's a myth but when it comes to phones I think the reason they ban them is for peace. Imagine if we could use cell phones on a plane, especially when so many people try and catch z's. People would fight and go insane from all the chit chat.
- DirtyVicar, on 12/16/2008, -1/+4Awesome... now emo high school kids and hipsters can write pathetic blogs about their ongoing hijacking.
- thephosphorbox, on 12/16/2008, -0/+3This is America man, if there's money to be made on something.. ANYTHING, we'll charge for it.
- anxcaptain, on 12/16/2008, -0/+3amen*
(but to keep it so they can keep that dumb ***** going... please do no power on your laptop until instructed to*) - thealsir, on 12/18/2008, -0/+2Dugg. Seriously, WTF is up with that.
- BayouBengal, on 12/16/2008, -0/+2Then why in Europe am I nicked a few Euro at every chance they get? Bathroom, 1 Euro. Internet access, a couple Euro. There is no such thing as "free wifi" in Europe hotels like you have at many hotels in the US.
- Mudcrutch, on 12/16/2008, -2/+4Why not free?
- mycoplasma, on 12/17/2008, -0/+2This isn't like internet access at starbucks. This is on an airplane, moving very fast miles above the ground. It's going to cost them more.
- punkcat, on 12/16/2008, -0/+2i remember when they wanted to charge me a few dollars to play tic-tac-toe on the seat in front of me.
the person who does that will charge you for anything. - fluidfoundation, on 12/16/2008, -1/+3How about rolling out Deltalina with a thong?
- tendonut, on 12/16/2008, -0/+2@drhouse
Because none of that stuff could happen if you didn't do it on a plane. - inactive, on 12/17/2008, -0/+2Don't hold your breath. The US government's AMTRAK has a monopoly on it, and your internet entertainment's not a high priority for them. I suspect some leftwing digger at this point will try to blame "capitalism" for this OBVIOUSLY-socialist situation, just for me.
- tendonut, on 12/16/2008, -0/+2It only effects navigational equipment if the airline can't profit from it. I'm sure if they put a cellular repeater in the cabin, they would let you use it at any time you wanted.
- drhouse, on 12/16/2008, -0/+2I'd imagine some people will place skymall orders online over the plane's Wifi .. potential there for stolen CC info
How about someone sniffing the corporate email you're sending? - clockdist, on 12/16/2008, -0/+2At least you can use an aircard or tether to a 3G phone on a train. On airplanes, that's not an option. And my flights usually average >3 hours.
- FlyingCaveman, on 12/17/2008, -0/+2So, I wonder if they'll charge you that extra 3 bucks, when your 3 hour flight gets delayed.
What a bargain. That works out to just less than $2400/month/ per person. Don't tell Comcast, or they'll raise their rates. - shauncorleone, on 12/16/2008, -0/+1Once an airline offers it free, the trend will spread. Just takes time.
- jackelopeus, on 12/16/2008, -0/+1Still can't be used during takeoff and landing.
- Jonjonr6, on 12/16/2008, -0/+1They're already going nuts; no phone needed.
- SolituSneiku, on 12/16/2008, -0/+1so its $12.95 plus $25 for the power...awesome
- mycoplasma, on 12/16/2008, -0/+1Because this service costs them money.
- nofx1510, on 12/16/2008, -0/+1@BayouBengal: I have had a few hotels in Italy with free wifi. While their few and far between they do exist.
- inactive, on 12/17/2008, -0/+1It doesn't cost them anything like ten bucks, and some services tend to not work when there's a payment speedbump, even if you pay.
- inverselogic, on 12/18/2008, -0/+1prostitute in Amsterdam , a couple Euro.
- reyalp, on 12/16/2008, -3/+4Y'all be goin' on vacation?
See the thing is, if you 'bout to be up out this beeatch, check it.
