- jull1234, on 10/11/2007, -6/+320But...but... the jingle...
- ravan46, on 10/11/2007, -10/+262Strait from the frontpage of freecreditreport.com
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
When you order your free report here, you will begin your free trial membership in Triple AdvantageSM Credit Monitoring. If you don't cancel your membership within the 30-day trial period, you will be billed $12.95 for each month that you continue your membership.
dumbass - benc, on 10/11/2007, -3/+227Also: unless you really want to know your FICO score, these third-party credit report sites are for the birds.
Get it straight from the horse's mouth: http://www.annualcreditreport.com
That site is run directly by Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion... the "big three" companies that track people's credit. Besides which, the site's endorsed by the FTC. http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/edcams/credit/ycr_free_reports.htm - answer42, on 10/11/2007, -6/+151$14.95 a month is ridiculous. You're an idiot.
- benc, on 10/11/2007, -8/+137You're not out your 30 bucks yet... talk to their payment department requesting an immediate refund. Use email so you have a paper trail. When and if that fails to resolve the situation, go to your credit card company and dispute the charge!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fair_Credit_Billing_Act - ayeroxor, on 10/11/2007, -3/+90You pay $180 a year for WHAT now?
- tzonic, on 10/11/2007, -14/+100Sucks to be you. Way to tell everyone you're a sucker. If you paypal me some money, you will feel better. I guarantee it.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+86For $14.95/month, I better be able to WRITE my credit report.
- katanaswordfish, on 10/11/2007, -10/+78Two words:
Natural Selection. - ayeroxor, on 10/11/2007, -8/+72Dear Submitter: Some guy who can't even spell "straight" just called you a dumbass. Lol.
- invise, on 10/11/2007, -7/+60Buried for stupidity. The average Digger has enough intelligence to not fall for this scam already, so this doesn't belong on the front page.
- trippinlikegod, on 10/11/2007, -8/+47You realize that pulling your credit report every month actually lowers your credit score right?
- woodchucklove, on 10/11/2007, -1/+33Buried for being an idiot.
- ankyhbk, on 10/11/2007, -0/+32http://www.annualcreditreport.com = legit.
- holborne, on 10/11/2007, -6/+38I'm thiiiinking of a number -- it's 55, which is the IQ of anyone who thinks that you can get anything for free. Duh.
- nepawoods, on 10/11/2007, -0/+31http://www.annualcreditreport.com is free (really) and legit (really) - the site is set up by the three main credit agencies (Equifax, Experian and TransUnion) to fulfill their legal obligation to provide consumers a free credit report once every 12 months, in accordance with the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act
- spudnic, on 10/11/2007, -1/+27Something they can get for free.
Either that or this is some sneaky way of advertising, bad mouth company A, then get another account to recommend company B in the first comment. - 4degrees, on 10/11/2007, -1/+25you do realize that when ever someone runs your credit, you get a free report... so you all are suckers. its a federal law that when your credit is checked, you also can get that report as well.
- jmpeagle, on 10/11/2007, -6/+30you fell for that? I Have used them 3 different times since they enacted that law to give free reports once a year and have never been charged because I always immediately cancel.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+26Don't say it's a free report if isn't a ***** free report.
- spyrochaete, on 10/11/2007, -4/+27Well, the name of the company promises a free product so you're not entirely to blame. At the end of the day if I had anything but a free credit report I'd call that false advertising.
- swordedge, on 10/11/2007, -9/+30getting them to stop is harder then leaving AOL
- oscarsonthepond, on 10/11/2007, -1/+20Did you really think that they spend thousands/millions of dollars advertising so that everybody in the country knows their jingle just to give out stuff for free?
- jmonty1000, on 10/11/2007, -2/+21Saying it "clearly" states it in the "fine print" is kind of an oxymoron.
- petafile, on 10/11/2007, -2/+19What kind of a retard trusts that kind of a commercial and doesn't read fine print when he enters his credit card info for something "free?" Sounds like fcr.com beat the televangelists to his money.
"A fool and his money are soon parted" - brp1264, on 10/11/2007, -3/+20Seriously, it was plastered all over the place... And what do you mean you have to wait until your trial period is over to cancel it? That's not what happened when I called them on the phone two weeks ago and canceled. You have any transactions lately with Nigeria?
- dirtyfratboy, on 10/11/2007, -3/+20I'm on my laptop right now while watching Shaolin Soccer on Spike. Just as I pulled up Digg, I swear to god, the FreeCreditReport commercial just ended. Then this is the first story on the front page. Freaky as hell.
- cquinnd, on 10/11/2007, -1/+17Thanks for the reminder.
- Hermitwise, on 10/11/2007, -3/+18I actually did this when I was 18 and I first got a credit card (I am dumb) and I was charged 15 and I made one phone call and they took it off. I hold no anger towards them because I was the one who did it in the first place and I never read all the fine print.
- schotty, on 10/11/2007, -0/+14Not personal queries. You can have a credit service devoted as these folks are query your credit every hour without a negative impact to your score. But dont let Dell or Apple's financing program or the car dealership hit you that frequently....
- scootinger, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12It's not that annualcreditreport.com is run by the credit bureaus that is what makes it legit, but that it's the only place where you can get your annual credit report that is mandated by the US government. FreeCreditReport.com is actually run by Experian - their logo is right on the front page of the site! What a scummy way to do business.
- Louisd11, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11swordedge- I can't wait for the freecreditreport cancellation phone conversations hit the internet.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -3/+12Hey you hear that whistle?
That's the lifeguard at the gene pool telling YOU to GET OUT! - atbnet, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9I had no problem canceling either.
- mal1964, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9FreeBrooklynBridge.com
- ericnmu, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9Straight from the commercial, you moron.
"Offer applies with enrollment in TripleAdvantage". - Trax852, on 10/11/2007, -3/+11Guy gets spammed, post his credit card number - then complains
Not sure what's worse his surprise, or that this article hit the front page. - ae6ai, on 10/11/2007, -4/+12Actually, these services allow you to pull your credit report without lowering your score.
- ayeroxor, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9As CTO of my company, I expressly forbid any employee from visiting any domain with FREE in the domain name. If they have a product to offer, and they use FREE in the domain, they are looking for suckers 100% of the time. And the world is full of suckers.
- notque, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10Wait, the government mandated one is the useful one, and the corporate one is the scummy one?
- thepolkapunk, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8No offense to this guy, but it's right there in plain text on the site. It's in all their ads too. Is it a mean unethical thing they're doing? Yes. But this guy was rather stupid for not seeing it.
If he read carefully, he'd see that they're offering Triple Advantage with a "FREE Credit Report & Credit Score just for trying it!" - Pestilence, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8My family has millions in a bank in your city. I need you to help me get it out. I will reward you greatly for this help. All I need from you is a check for $1000 to help with expenses.
- diblasio, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7This is great! I love it when stupid people get what they deserve!
- MacSuxWindozSux, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Mine too, but my money talks.
- shadow9939, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8I get my FICO score from my Washington Mutual credit card for free. I am sure that there are others out there that do the same. You shouldn't have to pay for your own credit score/report.
- oneblackcitizen, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7You are entitled to one report a year.
I got mine, then canceled the service and they still charged me, this after sending me an email saying that it was canceled.
I have found that writing a letter to the attorney general and better business bureau in a company's home state can solve just about any business dispute. I did end up getting my money back. - drafhk, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6So let me guess, this guy would probably get taken by porn sites with "FREE 30 DAYS!" guarantees all the time too, right?
So there you have it. Experience in porn provides common sense. Universe, you win. - AttackingHobo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6It takes your last 30 dollars that would buy enough food to sustain you till your next paycheck.
- jorazzle, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Too bad he didn't fall for anything. Freecreditreport.com has nothing to do with the free annual credit report provided by law. Freecreditreport.com is a commercial service, while annualcreditreport.com is the free one. The company behind freecreditreport used the legislation and their marketing to confuse people into paying money.
- c0yote, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Actually holborne, in this case you CAN get your credit report for free (by law each of the major three credit agencies is required to provide a free credit report). The problem is the REAL website is annualcreditreport.com (or use the toll free numbers).
That said, this guy is an idiot. -
