- OneManArmy, on 07/19/2009, -21/+387Man, digg is getting worse everyday.
- wemessy, on 07/19/2009, -5/+289I really love Digg a lot- but what a douche bag thing to do.
I really hope enough people are outraged for Digg to apologize and change it back. - rockhounding, on 07/20/2009, -6/+216What the ***** Digg? Do you really need to ***** over the very people that keep you in business?

- xpose, on 07/20/2009, -6/+133Digg has lot touch with its users. When is the last time a new feature was created for the site that was useful for you or me?
Comment reply notification anyone? - yifanlu94, on 07/20/2009, -6/+130I love to see what Kevin Rose is thinking. "I leave for two weeks and they ***** up the site"
- fakeollie, on 07/20/2009, -2/+120Why would a site like Digg, which is nothing more than a community aggregator, do something like this? Are they really that desperate for ad/pageviews that it's worth pissing off users?
Dickish move, Digg. No way around it. - HeDiggMe, on 07/19/2009, -2/+83Digg is trying to make the diggbar a recruiting tool for new members, which is fine how it was. But I think this attempt is forcing it too hard and would be a turnoff
- Greza, on 07/19/2009, -3/+82My biggest problem with the digg bar is I am too used to looking at my browsers url box to check the websites address. This is a very minor problem as the url is located on the digg bar itself, but often website block the digg bar and have no banner.
Makes it too difficult to find the site the content is located on. - GregFD3S, on 07/20/2009, -3/+77Kevin Rose tweeted a reply to this about two hours ago:
http://twitter.com/kevinrose/status/2729862918
"just now reading the digg short url discussion, I was not aware this changed and will check in on it tomorrow (was on vacation for 2 weeks)" - HeDiggMe, on 07/19/2009, -3/+64dude what the *****?!
TL/DR - MavRevMatt, on 07/20/2009, -27/+82***** Digg.
- Xplorer, on 07/20/2009, -17/+67The problem is you guys use twitter....
- MikeonTV, on 07/20/2009, -15/+61HEY NON DIGG USERS! YOU WANT TO USE OUR SHORT URL SERVICE? BETTER SIGN UP AND STAY LOGGED IN!
- AmyVernon, on 07/20/2009, -4/+44This is really wrong. I stopped tweeting Diggbar links last night after I found this out. I use Digg all the time, and I never liked getting tweets that sent me to landing pages, so I can't imagine how all the non-Digg users who get these links must feel. And they changed OLD links, so that if someone goes back for some reason and clicks through on an old link, they get the landing page, too. MESSED UP.
- BowlingStone, on 07/20/2009, -3/+40Does anyone else find it strange that he would not be aware of such a significant change?
- cmsjustin, on 07/19/2009, -1/+31That sounds like a lot of work
- oboy, on 07/20/2009, -10/+39It'll get better. Kevin will fix it: http://twitter.com/kevinrose/status/2729862918
- oziii, on 07/20/2009, -5/+34Digg's becoming less and less useful and relevant these days. They seem to be hungry for traffic and willing to go to more extreme methods to get it. Sad to see such a useful site becoming less willing to support and promote some of the people who helped build it into what it is - publishers. I for one used to promote Digg heavily to my readers but this is another example of why these days I'm sending my readers more and more to other social tools.
- DarrylWarren, on 07/20/2009, -5/+31Come on Digg . . . you serioulsy just lost your credibility!
- rpgmakr, on 07/20/2009, -0/+26For me, I have to say, is being able to see your comments and how many diggs it has gotten in your profile page. The other ones are just pure bloated crap.
- deej5871, on 07/20/2009, -14/+38Well according to the last diggnation he was going on some tea related vacation smack in the middle of China. Considering he was in the middle of nowhere I have a very easy time believing he was not informed. Especially since it's not THAT big of a deal.
- Geoserv, on 07/20/2009, -6/+29Digg is still good, but Digg seems to be more about helping Digg then rewarding it's users who actually made and make Digg what it is. As far as Kevin Rose goes, he is a liar and thinks we are all idiots who actually believe he knew nothing about it. Give us a break Kevin, and next time shut up.
- dhammond, on 07/20/2009, -5/+27This is pretty lame, but it's not the least bit surprising if you have any idea how companies like Digg operate. What incentive does Digg have to create a short URL scheme if it's not going to benefit them? Why on earth would you even USE this mechanism if you trying to get people *directly* to your site? So yeah, this is dumb and I'd never use it, but if you're genuinely outraged by this, then you really haven't been paying attention.
- dpknc84, on 07/20/2009, -3/+25When the cat's away the mice will play... and screw things up.
- rockhounding, on 07/20/2009, -12/+33It's B.S.
How would he not be filled in on something this big that has to do with his company?
What that statement really means is. We are going to use this as an excuse because we really ***** up big this time. - Jeremyyak, on 07/20/2009, -1/+20I agree, I find the comments just as, if not more, entertaining than the actual articles.
- Zenophon, on 07/20/2009, -7/+24HI BILLY MAYS HERE
- Zihuatanejo, on 07/20/2009, -4/+21Link to the site, not to the diggbar. Problem solved.
- bytor4232fb, on 07/20/2009, -1/+18I always close the digg bar before I ping stuff out. I'd hate for all my tweets and facebook posts to have "digg" in them if they aren't actually going to digg.com.
The digg bar is stupid anyway. - allisondotjean, on 07/20/2009, -6/+23idk, personally i think what makes maybe 70% of the articles on digg good are the comments.
- Chetyre, on 07/20/2009, -3/+20I'm not a fan of twitter, but I agree--this is pretty low. Kevin Rose apparently replied on twitter so we might see it change, but it sounds really suspicious that they'd change how the diggbar works like that without Kevin Rose knowing.
- Rotzooi, on 07/20/2009, -2/+18He won't.
He will "check in on it". - justok, on 07/20/2009, -0/+16think that's been hijacked by twitter
- nmffffd9, on 07/20/2009, -5/+20Kevin Rose doesn't seem to be happy with this DiggBar update so expect a change: http://digg.com/d1xfUH
- TheAirLoom, on 07/20/2009, -8/+23If you use the Digg toolbar simply as an URL shortening service in the first place you're a ***** idiot. If you cared so much about the target page, you'd link to it directly or use an URL shortening service that does nothing but that.
- dn11, on 07/20/2009, -1/+16funny, because that is almost opposite to what he said on TWIT yesterday. He seemed to say that he was aware that change was coming and goes on to explain the reasoning.
http://www.twit.tv/204 - HAL90000, on 07/20/2009, -0/+15It's actually quite common for Digg to ***** over its own users. So many users are banned for offending a mod that it's really just getting out of hand. They need a system where those banned can appeal the decision, and are given a reason for the ban.
- Bloodwine, on 07/20/2009, -1/+14I'm not sure why you are being dugg down. The URL shortener sites all have the temptation to do something dickish like this in the future. They control the behavior and targeting of your links that you send through them. They are the gatekeepers.
I'm sure nobody used to think, "Hey, I bet one day my ISP redirects all 404 errors in my browser to a page full of ads!", but now that is a reality and more ISPs are jumping on board.
Basically, we're surrounded by douchebags. - epyon180, on 07/20/2009, -2/+15Lol, so naive. To think that after all these years that Kevin Rose has steadily been increasing his net worth, that he would still be the normal everyman who still fights the "man" is just stupid. Kevin Rose is a multi millionaire and digg is a private company funded in the millions and worth even more. Digg obviously made this move to increase revenue ( which is what every business is supposed to do) and its foolish to think that our old pal Kevin would have stopped it if he wasn't on "vacation". I don't care how many times kevin acts like he is still poor on diggnation or how many times he complains about stuff being too expensive, it just isn't true. At least alex is sort of honest about his $70,000 BMW etc.
- Bloodwine, on 07/20/2009, -0/+13The first and primary Digg fix needs to be the damn bouncing comment box. Seriously, you telling me they can't devote some short-term developer resources to knock out a JavaScript fix?!
- sardiax, on 07/20/2009, -2/+15I really don't see why twitter just doesn't have an intregrated shortened URL system. or the ability attach a link to a tweet? wouldn't that solve all these short url problems?
- Networktwenty3, on 07/20/2009, -2/+14Geeze Kevin, as an old Tech TV viewer who has followed your brilliant career and business and you have impressed me, to hear you did not know of a change like this which I thought was your company really disappoints me, are you just down to a famous name, vacation and a pay check? I know some day you will probably sell Digg to MS, Google, or Yahoo, and that is cool, that is business, but right now you are still the face of Digg, come on man, take some control.
- Bloodwine, on 07/20/2009, -2/+14Digg has always been known for ***** comments. We're all a bunch of self-absorbed and misinformed jackasses.
- LPfmAAF, on 07/20/2009, -0/+12the less ***** search?
- Bloodwine, on 07/20/2009, -1/+13I don't give a ***** about Twitter, but this incident hopefully sheds some light on the dangers of using URL shortening services. Any time you add a middle man to the workflow, you lose some control of the process.
Who knows if one or more of the other URL shortening services resort to silly antics in the future. - t0x2c, on 07/20/2009, -2/+14Not at all. As a project manager on a number of programming teams, you'll often find a pretty major change by one or two of the programmers all of a sudden without any meetings involving it.
- t0x2c, on 07/20/2009, -0/+10Dugg for accuracy. If everyone posted more comments like mine this would be a better place.
- Mushroomer25, on 07/20/2009, -3/+13It's a dick move, and Digg should change it back, but I don't see this as that big of a problem. Most people who want more info on a story from a Tweet, shouldn't stop at the 1 paragraph summary on Digg. They'll still go to the original site.
