- radiofrequency, on 05/13/2008, -0/+1Vallejo is in bankruptcy because of corruption and fiscal irresponsibility. The city paid firefighters and police officers $200k+/year in salary. This is completely outside the norm and there are millions of Americans who would have provided those services for much less (like about a quarter of that salary).
- kemp34, on 05/11/2008, -0/+1HUGE civil service salaries choked Vallejo to the breaking point. Civil servants need to tighten their belts just like everyone else.
- Qong, on 05/11/2008, -0/+1Sounds more like a mismanagement of public funds and just terrible leadership in general. I don't understand how a city can go bankrupt, why didn't they cut spending as their local economy declined?
