- iamstudip, on 01/16/2009, -8/+609I guess it's a closed-circuit city now.
- Firespray1138, on 01/16/2009, -39/+426***** off asshat.
- Firespray1138, on 01/16/2009, -5/+308Yeah *****, my Dad just lost his job of 17 years...
- diggerbez, on 01/16/2009, -2/+278too bad they were not more grounded
- PeteSchiller, on 01/16/2009, -11/+256Look out for sales starting tomorrow. Everything will need to go from their stores!
- chuckDontSurf, on 01/16/2009, -0/+178They had too much resistance to change.
- hyperspaztik, on 01/16/2009, -11/+176I work for Circuit City, and there is no way I'm applying for Best Buy. I always preferred Circuit City just because it was a better atmosphere and I like the employees better. Now that I am one, my job will be lost over the next few months. Oh well.
- Chainheart2, on 01/16/2009, -1/+163As long as Newegg is here, then I'll be fine.
- diggerbez, on 01/16/2009, -3/+156I worked at CC for 3 years as salesmen, and I literally watched the demise of the company. They just kept making bad decision after bad decision. Their motto was "people come here because we offer superior customer service." But then they go and fire all of their best employees... twice!!
- spthomp, on 01/16/2009, -0/+151Expect prices to increase first.
- merdiesel, on 01/16/2009, -1/+145I worked for Circuit City all last year and had to work through my store closing and I can tell you first hand, stay the ***** away from these stores now. I was literally walking my old customers out the door because the prices we're so ***** ridiculous. Sony 52' XBR4 for 3,999$? really?.. that TV is damn near 2 years old now. Oh and if that's not total *****, how about my boss taking every single remote for all the TV's even the closed box TVs and selling them on the last day for 10 bucks a piece. When I asked him what the point of that was, he said that he was staying with he company and he will do anything to look better then the remaining managers looking for a transfer. That company was run by scumbags before liquidation, imagine how it will be when the liquidators come in to "help out". It's a joke and they will try and scam you.
- RoroCo, on 01/16/2009, -4/+137C-C-C-COMBO CIRCUIT BREAKER!!!!
- JYoungest1, on 01/16/2009, -9/+134I worked at circuit city from 05 until late 07, and im telling you i seen this coming from 2006. The heads lied about this all along, no we are not going to layoff people, then they lay off 3,000 of their top. No we are not going to close after the holiday season... The people running this ***** up company hopefully get what they deserve, but the people at the bottom will be the ones taking the hit.
- benderillo, on 01/16/2009, -7/+127Best Buy doesn't hire knowledgeable people...
- thrive868, on 01/16/2009, -1/+111I am, or was a warehouse associate at CC. My short two years there has truly been an exciting ride. And for the record, among the 7-8 jobs I've had in my life, CC was easily the best.
For all the other Circuit City employees seeking new employment oppurtunities, I wish you the best of luck. It's been a great FIGHT! - condorhauck, on 01/16/2009, -0/+102If you are holding onto any gift cards, you may want to use them while you still can.
- GhostFreeman, on 01/16/2009, -0/+84Not to point out a fact (and to the parent post, i'm sorry to hear) but Circuit City has been hurting pretty bad for a while now.
- robopuppy, on 01/16/2009, -2/+84Be careful with that - Circuit City is selling their inventory to liquidators. Liquidators tend to jack prices up to full price or above and then apply a % discount to make it more appealing, even though often times the same product was cheaper at that store before liquidation.
- Renton, on 01/16/2009, -2/+84Don't be so negative.
- KibblesnBitts, on 01/16/2009, -6/+87Holy *****, how many CC employees are on digg?
I wish all circuit city employees, or any unemployed diggers seeking work the best of luck - guitarh3ro, on 01/16/2009, -0/+77...did you just reply to yourself twice?
split personality much? - megamod, on 01/16/2009, -1/+75they needed to amplify their gains
- brstilson, on 01/16/2009, -5/+76The reason they failed: they tried to be too much like Best Buy.
The problem was they didn't have all those brand new, high-ceiling stores like Best Buy does. Most of their stores are old, dark, and dingy. Combine that with a sales staff who is just as inept and inexperienced as the typical BB employee, and you completely eliminate any reason whatsoever to shop there. They should have kept their higher-quality salespeople. But instead they decided to try to be just another Best Buy, which is something they couldn't pull off.
Most of those CC employees will probably end up at Best Buy anyway. That seems to be the trend anyway. When I worked there it was a running joke that CC served as nothing more than an internship for future BB employees.
I also found it interesting how the online business of Circuit City is considered the only viable part of the company that's left. It's weird how online retail is starting to become more viable than brick-and-morar stores when just a few years ago it was the opposite. - Gaffigan, on 01/16/2009, -2/+69I currently work at Circuit City, and I gotta say I'm bummed.
It's not a huge deal, I wasn't a career guy there, but I actually enjoyed working there.
I got other stuff lined up, and I'm only 20, so it's not really crippling to me, but thinking about the guys at my store who've been working there for 5 or more years, and all the others around the US, it's a bummer.
Ah well, gonna get crazy good deals on stuff at least =D - IphtashuFitz, on 01/16/2009, -1/+68Yeah, sales where they first mark the prices UP to the manufacturers suggested retail price then mark them down for 10% or 20%, making them still more expensive then before they went bankrupt.
Of course it's not CC that's doing this. It's the liquidators who buy all of CC's merchandise, their stores, etc. and then targets suckers to sell it all off at higher prices... - inactive, on 01/16/2009, -0/+66So no more commercials where the guy calls for in-store pickup and the TV he buys has legs? That ***** was creepy.
- JGUSMC7, on 01/16/2009, -1/+65Am I the only one who just wanted to not be bothered by any store employee, and just hope for a competent cashier?
- Daryl209, on 01/16/2009, -6/+67I was an employee at Circuit City for 4 years before my store became one of the 155 stores that closed.
Say what you want about the place, but I loved it. I always hated Best Buy even before I worked at Circuit City. When I was a kid, I'd go and buy CDs and video games at CC because Best Buy were always jerks. I walk into Best Buy, I'd either get ignored or dirty looks. I walk into CC, I was welcomed. When I was looking for a job, Best Buy were jerks about me coming in to check my application, CC always welcomed me and the employees there liked to talk and ***** with me. Eventually, CC hired me on the spot and for 4 years I had a job that I loved and was proud to do. And those same employees that welcomed me every time I came in, became the best friends I could ever ask for.
My heart goes out to all that put on that red shirt and did their job. Needless to say, I'll be shopping online from now on. - pnunn, on 01/16/2009, -17/+76SuperWinner is a poor name choice for an obviously classless, insensitive *****- my sincerest sympathy for your father's predicament, Firespray. Good luck to all of us who might face the same problem or worse in the times ahead... even SuperWinner... but mostly just everyone else.
- themouth, on 01/16/2009, -2/+60Man that sucks for them ... not so much however for those of us in the market for a new TV
- wkeown, on 01/16/2009, -9/+67The employees at my two local Circuit City stores have always been very helpful. Best Buy employees never turned out to be that great. I always know what I want and I know everything I need to about a product before I buy it. But if I wasn't with my dad when he went somewhere he would be screwed at Best Buy. Sad...
- KibblesnBitts, on 01/16/2009, -1/+56I wish you luck
- APHughes, on 01/16/2009, -15/+69I liked CC too. They use to have knowledgeable people but looks like they will be in line for jobs at Best Buy
- satyarth, on 01/16/2009, -12/+65Stay classy, SuperWinner.
Oh, and does "asshat" mean a hat shaped like an ass or an ass which can be used as a hat? - robopuppy, on 01/16/2009, -5/+58There's a good reason for this happening as evidenced by first visit to a Circuit City store in years yesterday. Went to pick up a $10 guitar hero controller that I bought online for my birthday. I didn't want to get it shipped out to me, because I wanted to play it on my birthday. I presented my CC and ID, and they wouldn't accept my ID because the picture on it is faded (it's 12 years old). I pointed out that a recent picture is on the front of my credit card, and that if I had theoretically stolen everything I had (iphone to pull up the order e-mail, wallet full of cards with my picture on them...) then I probably wouldn't bother wasting my time trying to steal the $10 guitar. No use. I pointed out that the recent picture on the CC is more helpful anyway, because I was 16 at the time the picture was taken on my ID, and I've changed a good deal since then. They still would not accept this. After arguing with the manager for 10 minutes on the phone, I finally just said ***** it and canceled the order right then and there. Complete incompetence. I'm sure there are good employees at good Circuit City stores somewhere, and ***** morons like these just ruined it for the rest of you. Too bad upper management is obviously as retarded as the people at this store.
- Renton, on 01/16/2009, -0/+51I bet there will be less charge on all their merchandise.
- fwertz, on 01/16/2009, -0/+50Watt?
- Firespray1138, on 01/16/2009, -7/+57Particle: They were closing the stores, my dad was working in the service part of the company, he fixed TVs in the warehouse, the service part was for the most part safe during the store closures. Oh and ***** off.
- SmackAttack42, on 01/16/2009, -3/+52ohm man... what terrible news
- elliashe, on 01/16/2009, -9/+57I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if 30 thousand voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. I fear something terrible has happened.
Sorry - can't resist... - Monkey12, on 01/16/2009, -2/+50Does this mean I don't have to pay off that TV now?
/sarcasm implied - TheMidnight, on 01/16/2009, -0/+48This isn't all that shocking, as they couldn't stay current because management had its wires crossed.
- sidewinderaim9x, on 01/16/2009, -1/+48Check for price stickers behind price stickers and do your research before you buy anything. ANYTHING!
- pybu, on 01/16/2009, -0/+46I see *watt you did there.
FTFY ;) - soapandfoam, on 01/16/2009, -6/+52oh well, I was never a fan of circuit city, they did have some low prices. But here in New Jersey, customer/employee relations were complete *****. Not just CC, but also Best Buy was similar. I won't be surprised if this will be the fate of Best Buy.
New Egg for the win. - inactive, on 01/16/2009, -0/+45Especially the gum!
- puter, on 01/16/2009, -4/+46knowledgeable people?
liked circuit city?
what planet are you from? This company was known for ripping consumers off as much as they could. - broh, on 01/16/2009, -31/+73SuperWinner, you have absolutely no class.
- AmyVernon, on 01/16/2009, -5/+46Those are the people I feel badly for.
