- dionhewson, on 11/13/2007, -1/+121he should switch to nicotine gum...
- oreonblade, on 11/13/2007, -1/+102Coal dust, fumes, dirt, and cigarette smoke. This guy's on the fast track to lung cancer.
- pizzler, on 11/13/2007, -2/+77Imagine what his lungs look like! A coal miner takes a bath after finishing his shift at a mine in the north China province of Shanxi. No wonder China's coal industry is the world's most dangerous, as measured by the number of miners who are killed per year. In the first 10 months of 2007, there have been 3,069 deaths and on average since 2000, 6,000 miners have died in China every year.
- whoaeric, on 11/13/2007, -1/+65That's a pretty kickass bathtub.
More like swimming pool - quomen, on 11/12/2007, -7/+65I think you're referring to a Blackanese.

- LordSkywalker, on 11/12/2007, -0/+51I opened this in a tab but didn't click it until about 20 minutes later. I clicked it and wondered: WTF did I open?
- inactive, on 11/12/2007, -2/+51I didn't see any marks for a face mask so I don't think that cigarette is really go to do any extra damage
- subterfuge, on 11/13/2007, -1/+43*cough, cough*
i think i'm getting the black lung, pop! - SnowStorms, on 11/12/2007, -1/+39Someone call Mike Rowe!
- tidu, on 11/12/2007, -3/+40seriously... when 3 miners are trapped in a mine in America the whole nation hears about it. 6,000 miners is a hell of a lot.
- kclyons, on 11/12/2007, -6/+28***** that, I would be smoking a joint after a day like that....
- inactive, on 11/12/2007, -1/+22Arch capitalist? You made that up didn't you?
- trghpy, on 11/12/2007, -2/+23I was just thinking coal dust + cigarette...
Screw Cancer. I'd be more worried about my face sparking up. - Berkana, on 11/12/2007, -6/+24"Proletariate revolution" my ass. China has some of the worst working conditions on earth. Even arch capitalist countries like Japan, Germany, and America have better work conditions than that.
- chrisj33, on 11/12/2007, -3/+20When less than a thousand die in a freak accident in Chernobyl, it's deemed a catastrophe and denies the world the most efficient and cleanest energy source available right now.
- Broccoli, on 11/12/2007, -1/+17compared to the coal in his lungs the cigaret is healthy.

- fgsfds, on 11/12/2007, -0/+1556 died as a direct result of the Chernobyl incident. There are about 4000 cases of cancer believed to be linked to the incident.
I say "incident" as "accident" implies that it wasn't intentional. In reality, the USSR had long known that the design was unsafe, did not build a containment dome for the reactors (Which would have *completely* contained the effects).
Worse still, to cause the incident in question they intentionally bypassed safety systems and THEN killed the primary coolant pumps. I don't care what the USSR said about it being an 'accident'; if that happened anywhere else then the people who gave those orders would go down for premeditated murder.
Of course, this is not really related to the discussion at hand - yes, those pictures are real. - greenlight2001, on 11/12/2007, -0/+12Actually, there is no strong link to coal miners pneumoconiosis and lung cancer. Yes it leads to crippling restrictive lung disease, but it's not a big player in cancer. In fact, there has been some studies showing a REDUCED risk of cancer in coal miners than in the general population, go figure. Asbestos exposure and smoking... well, thats another story.
*medical student currently in his respiratory system* - haiduz, on 11/13/2007, -0/+12well played +1
/merman - pintomp3, on 11/12/2007, -1/+12he doesn't seem to be that concerned about his lungs, considering he's smoking in the bath.
- aigulf, on 11/12/2007, -1/+11What's one more drop in the ocean? Honestly, I doubt that cigarette is anything next to a shift in the mine.
- DiggJig, on 11/12/2007, -2/+12dont be an ass.
- HappyScrappy, on 11/12/2007, -0/+9He won't live long enough to get lung cancer. He'll probably die in a cave in.
- fgsfds, on 11/12/2007, -0/+9That's true, but the same can be said for Bhopal.
Aside from that, much of the Chernobyl exclusion zone is now considered safe for residential and commercial purposes. You still shouldn't eat anything grown there, but you can live there again. It won't be too long before even that is once again save.
... Unlike Bhopal, which will remain deadly until it's either cleaned up or the contaminates get flushed into the water supply.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bhopal_disaster - LostinService, on 11/12/2007, -8/+17Your "statistic" cannot be used as a valid argument unless you tell us how many coal miners there are in china. only then can we compare deaths per 1,000 to another nation.
- Ladon, on 11/12/2007, -0/+8Darkness, everybody! Darkness is in the house!
- ZenMojo, on 11/12/2007, -1/+9China's population is about 4 times ours, so...they just have an absolute lack of safety standards.
- mwolfzorn, on 11/12/2007, -0/+7That cuts into profits...

- Jerky1312, on 11/12/2007, -3/+9That accident had far lasting effects on people than those who simply died. It is still prevalent today.
- loconet, on 11/12/2007, -0/+6That's all the water he needed to clean his body from the neck down
- DickyT83, on 11/12/2007, -1/+7As if the black lung wasn't enough, apparently his optimal goal is lung cancer.
- londubh, on 11/12/2007, -0/+6reminds me of a Road Runner cartoon right after the bomb explodes in Wile E. Coyote's face.
- valkyries, on 11/12/2007, -1/+6sry seems your the only one wanting that.
- seastobble, on 11/12/2007, -2/+7Chinese coal miner washing the dirt off, or the first successful implementation of trans-ethnicity surgery?
- FongoBongo, on 11/12/2007, -0/+5China is going through its post-industrial revolution right now, so as far as working conditions go, they're crap. When the West went through its own industrial revolution, things were just as bad - child labor, dangerous working conditions, loss of life, etc. China is just going through a phase.
- jessejardim, on 11/12/2007, -1/+6Nope. I'd like to see his lungs though.
- mlvassallo, on 11/12/2007, -0/+5I have a tan like that and I work in IT...

- RSterkenburg, on 11/12/2007, -0/+4Wow, you have to feel sorry for anyone who works in those kinds of conditions. It's a wonder they can breathe, if that's one shift worth of dust on his head.
- RandomTaskMan, on 11/12/2007, -0/+3I'm glad this wasn't on the fetish list.
