- northwatuppa, on 12/15/2008, -3/+26Sounds like these guys are having the same luck as those big casinos they refer to as "the financial markets."
- TheEngineer2008, on 12/15/2008, -1/+20Or, you could just choose to not participate in that form of recreation.
I don't know why you anti-gaming types wish to stop me from playing a hand of poker. You have the freedom to not play already. Even in Vegas. Really...no one will force you to play. - PorchSong, on 12/15/2008, -1/+19I love how the gambling industry's soluiton is to "lower the age to 18." Are you kidding me?
- StaticThunder, on 12/15/2008, -1/+15I don't need Mommy-government telling me how I can spend my own money.
- nickceleb, on 12/15/2008, -1/+14Yeah, lets make going to the movies and water parks illegal while were at it.
- inactive, on 12/15/2008, -0/+11Speaking of hard times in Vegas, I wonder how down and out the prostitution biz is? That would be an interesting statistic.
- borez, on 12/16/2008, -0/+11"participants dressed as Santa Claus ran through the casino chasing scantily clad Hooters waitresses."
OK,That's definitely one way to attract business. - inactive, on 12/15/2008, -5/+16Ah man, and I was going to invest in an online gambling site... I guess we're really in for a tough ride.
- Someguy101, on 02/19/2009, -1/+11Why should it be illegal again? I honestly don't understand why it's the government's business if someone plays a game.
- KevinRosa, on 12/15/2008, -1/+10Casinos Bailout. Here we gooooo!
- sjbdallas, on 12/16/2008, -1/+9Hmmm, I was planning to take my next paycheck to a casino so I could double my money and go buy some banking stocks.
- swik, on 12/16/2008, -0/+6You know what's better than being the best player at the table or having an inside tip? Being the ***** rake.
- solistus, on 12/16/2008, -0/+5While we're at it, arcades with prize tickets should be banned. Same principle, right?
Consensual transactions that are fair and follow the established terms are not theft, and prohibition of nonviolent social activities has a pretty proven track record of failure. - Kinneas, on 12/17/2008, -0/+4I do not feel bad for the Casinos.
I was recently in Las Vegas and the thing everyone seems to have forgotten is 'HOSPITALITY'.
$5.00 for a coke and if you DARE ask for a water you will be met with glares. One bartender even had the nerve to tell me I was 'CHEAP' when I wanted a water and did not tip for it. This was not an isolated incident either. It was the same all over.
Also: $12.00 for a couple of beers, etc. etc. etc.
Look it is great all the raised prices help spurn massive development in Vegas. Almost every casino is a work of art now but again...why bother going at all anymore?
Sometimes 'the good old days' kind of thinking regarding hospitality needs to be re-considered.
YOU DID IT TO YOURSELVES, Casinos. - freakFlag, on 12/16/2008, -0/+3So true, check out Google Earth, you can literally see where city water ends at the end of towns because the lots with green grass are square. How more wasteful could you be watering a yard of grass in the desert?
- pennvneff, on 12/16/2008, -1/+4That article was about casinos not online gambling sites, there's a huge difference.
- inactive, on 12/16/2008, -0/+3And then double it?
- refer4freebie, on 12/16/2008, -0/+3the house will always win in the end they always do, the longer you play the more you stand to lose, the only people who will win in a casino is lucky ones you can't play against luck.
refer4freebies - inactive, on 12/16/2008, -0/+3Yeah, "we" (meaning: horse racing & physical casino interests who own politicians) have "won" (read: lost.) the war on internet poker. It cost a lot of tax money, and a lot of businesses were either ruined or chased offshore, but "we" sure "won."
Smart move, Bush administration! Good thing there weren't any Wall Street Ponzi schemes going on in the meantime!!
/s - dennysugar, on 12/16/2008, -1/+4How can this be? Operating in the middle of the desert where every atom needs to be trucked in, surely is cost efficient, no?
- vertigo32, on 12/16/2008, -0/+3Even better is that many cities or states that have legalized gambling in the past decade or so rely on the tax revenue from casinos to operate. Especially schools...
- pennvneff, on 12/16/2008, -2/+4It's a shame our nation's lawmakers don't have the vision to legalize online gaming sites. Trust me, these casino owners will be the next group of people begging for a government handout.
- inactive, on 12/16/2008, -2/+4you think 18 is a kid? you know other countries let you drink, gamble your money away etc and be an adult at 18... I don't see the big problem besides the casino's bringing it up now for their own agenda.
- ToZaK, on 12/16/2008, -1/+3nothing gets me in the mood to gamble like the worst month in stock market history
SEVENS BABY YEAAAAA!!!!! - ScannerMobs, on 12/16/2008, -2/+4***** casinos
- SteveCUBE, on 12/18/2008, -0/+2Having a ski resort and green grass golf courses in the desert.
- cquinnd, on 12/16/2008, -0/+2They are seeing a downturn as well, I saw an article on it linked from fark.com just the other day.
- ninjaturtles1, on 12/16/2008, -0/+2My heart bleeds for the casinos. Lets hope they get a bailout!
- jriggs420, on 12/16/2008, -0/+2Bet they didn't see that coming!
- specialK16, on 12/17/2008, -0/+1Be sure to take a small EMP device to the coin slots. Those can be easily found and you'll ***** bricks.
- paradigmxx, on 12/16/2008, -1/+2Casino's new strategy...
1. Offer 5x "More Money" & More Free BS
2. Increase House Odds
3. ???
4. Profit? - freakFlag, on 12/16/2008, -0/+1The gambling industry has a solid foundation and at the worst of the worst economic crisis for America (The Great Depression) gambling grew (blame prohibition if you want because the two were always together). They, like most businesses counting on consumers, will see falling revenue but gambling, the game of "get rich quick", will always be an American past-time. This will be especially true at grassroot levels not Vegas levels, those billion dollar casinos are *****.
- solistus, on 12/16/2008, -0/+1Actually, casinos often DO post odds. At any rate, they do not *lie* about them. It's not theft. A rational person should expect to get less than even odds at all house games, which is why many 'serious' casino players prefer poker.
The MIT kids didn't get kicked out for getting too good. They got kicked out for colluding to manipulate bet patterns based on counting cards, which is against casino rules. You don't get kicked out or treated poorly if you go on a lucky streak in Vegas; they treat you like a king to coax you to keep playing and come back in the future. - inactive, on 12/16/2008, -1/+2continue to lose gamblers????????????????????????????
F T A =Casinos, lottery agencies and racetracks are losing tons of money ??????????????????????????????????????????
What is wrong with these sentences?
was the money "lost" ever theirs?
have YOU ever "lost" something you never had ?
BURRED for bad writing! - specialK16, on 12/17/2008, -0/+1yeah, at least they won't brake your legs or kill your wife.
- Trick07, on 12/16/2008, -0/+1How can these places be losing money? They are down 30%? That still leaves a lot of room for people to come and give them all their money.
We stayed at the Tropicana in Atlantic City back in August, it was $250 a night for a basic room and that was the cheapest rate I could find... and I did a lot of searching for a good rate.
What are the casino's doing with their money? - GeeksSpeakFont, on 12/17/2008, -0/+1i'd rather play poker with my friends, which is cheaper and more fun.
- specialK16, on 12/17/2008, -0/+1People should be allowed to do as they like.
Yet, I think we are all sure that Casino's are build over mafia and dealer's money. - nimbletimble, on 12/18/2008, -0/+1Adding a few more numbers to the roulette wheel should keep them going
- rolf, on 12/16/2008, -3/+3How.... do I reeeeach these kids?
- oxymoron69, on 12/16/2008, -1/+1You are a ***** piece of *****.
You can't just not read an article, copy and paste a line of text from it and expect us NOT to notice; other human garbage like you tries to do the exact same thing.
You're a spammer and need to be treated as such.
There is a team of elite geeks headed to your locale right now, who will strip search, cover you in honey and throw you on a pile of red ants.
Be prepared!
Also, spamming digg is wrong. If you'd like to advertise, I'm sure digg would appreciate the AD REVENUE, instead of using their servers to force your URL on people.
I hope you're banned soon ;-) - NoLibertarians, on 12/16/2008, -2/+2It's not the economy stupid ! It's the fact that you can gamble in far more areas than ever before..You no longer have to travel to a few areas to throw down some cash..As gambling grows elsewhere Nevada will continue to lose gamblers money to other states
- Feenix566, on 12/16/2008, -0/+0They probably could use a bailout.
- itmark, on 01/13/2009, -0/+0They should the casino business not go into recession?
