That's just what we need here in California — another bill to increase California's -$14 billion deficit even further.
But then, California Ag wants more illegal immigration, since our Unemployment rate is "only" 6.2%, and since Big Agriculture really needs to tamp down workers' wages even further, by increasing the labor supply even more -- especially with illegal immigrant workers who'll work for almost nothing.
Better still, maybe we should just re-institute slavery in California, so Corporate Ag could get its labor for free. Then we might save a whole nickel on a head of lettuce. Maybe even a dime.
But we can't do that either, because then Big Ag would have to take care of its "property." That would never do. It's cheaper to pay 'em peanuts & discard them when they can't work, rather them pay to keep them alive & healthy.
