Brazil trip opens eyes to biofuel vs. food supplies
news.yahoo.com — A group of French lawmakers were impressed with Brazil's biofuel industry, but said Europe would have to balance biofuel usage against the need to guarantee food supplies. Jean Arthius, ancien ministre de l' économie said that soaring food prices throughout the world were the result of "speculation."

The prices for other commodities such as gold, silver, copper and aluminum have also risen dramatically and people don't eat precious & semi-precious metals, nor are metals required as an ingredient in ethanol production. There are many supply and demand forces at work, including speculative trading in commodities.
