- CaptainStone, on 07/13/2009, -4/+91Bad headline. Should be, lawyers find new way to screw us.
- slavery10264, on 07/13/2009, -1/+73Just another way to keep the middle and lower class citizens in a constant money pit. The person responsible for the debt should be the only one that has to pay. So if he can't pay the bills off, does that mean the burden goes to his daughter? This is *****
- Aroundtown27, on 07/13/2009, -4/+74I am so glad I don't ever have to deal with the same ***** you Americans do regarding health care
- A Canadian - inactive, on 07/13/2009, -2/+60Thats *****.
- mrpunman, on 07/13/2009, -3/+54BOOMER!
- Octanum, on 07/13/2009, -0/+33If you didn't make the decisions regarding the debt, you should not have to suffer the consequences. This is basically like throwing logic out the window.
- osok, on 07/13/2009, -6/+34if that's the case, then its time for euthanasia laws that allow us to get rid of relatives that are useless wastes of skin.
- inactive, on 07/13/2009, -1/+29If the Bible were actually true, credit scores would be the mark of the beast.
- Aroundtown27, on 07/13/2009, -2/+22While our health care system does have its issues I can rest easier at night knowing that I don't have to worry about not being insured or going broke because I have to pay some huge medical bill either myself or my parents incurred.
- peasant1337, on 07/13/2009, -3/+19GRABBIN' PEELZ
- SiberianKhatru, on 07/13/2009, -0/+13The media specialize in turning one generation against another while they referee the fight on the sidelines. Meanwhile bad laws and dumb governments get away free.
- AmazingSteve, on 07/13/2009, -6/+19YOU are the one who is ignorant. You know ZERO about it because you're not part of it. Now go blow it out your ass.
- crunchdigg, on 07/13/2009, -0/+12Here's a better "What does this have to do with Baby Boomers?"
The parent in the article is 71. She was therefore born in ~1938.
Baby boomers were born in 1946-1964. - deathandtaverns, on 07/13/2009, -0/+11I'd rather deal with their *****
- GoEKniGhtofNi, on 07/13/2009, -1/+12*loading shotgun*
- realcoolguy9022, on 07/13/2009, -0/+11Yeah, one of these are going to the appeals/supreme court, and they had better overturn the ruling. This just outrageous. I'd go find the CEO/Owner and screw over one of their older family member, and send them a bill. I certainly won't be living in PA if this is one of the laws they enforce.
- MAGZine, on 07/13/2009, -1/+12Why would you want to put laws on the youth in asia?
- bjornski, on 07/13/2009, -1/+11Without stating your reasoning, your "argument" is pretty hollow.
Why? - Shaggy6ster, on 07/13/2009, -1/+11It's time to put that old bitch in the worst retirement home money barely has to pay for.
- bfogarty27, on 07/13/2009, -1/+11its better to not have care of your own?
and should we all be responsible for putting out fires in our own houses then?
there are differences - inactive, on 07/13/2009, -3/+13So what? Throw a pipe bomb.
- bubbakja, on 07/13/2009, -0/+9This happened to my wife. She was 20 and in college and her parents received a medical bill they didn't pay. We had to pay $900 in adjustment fees when we closed on our house because it dropped her credit below the new required credit minimum of 740. It was the only thing on the report, and even thought the doctors office admitted they never sent her a bill, they wouldn't do anything about it.
- radu79, on 07/13/2009, -0/+9I think this is the MOST ***** UP news I've read in the last few months.
I can't even understand how such a law can even be constitutional to begin with. - bungoman, on 07/13/2009, -0/+9This may also come as a shock, but sometimes ***** people have kids. Just because someone is your mom or dad does not exclude them from the possibility of being an ***** who doesn't deserve the time of day.
Sounds to me like that's the case with the dude in the article. His mom clearly sucks which is why they have no relationship. "Burden" is an understatement when it comes to having to pay for the healthcare of someone whose calls you'd probably ignore 100% of the time. - DaDrake, on 07/13/2009, -0/+8And if your parents didn't raise you and treated you poorly... you still would be burden by them in later years.
This law strikes me as unconstitutional. One individual should not be responsible for the debt of another. If PA continues to enforce this law... eventually collectors are going to be harassing a child of sexual abuse, and lawyers are going to line up to overthrow the law. - densetsu23, on 07/13/2009, -0/+7Where's your data coming from? In Alberta the average starting wage for a registered nurse is $28.32/hr, the average hours worked per week is 36.2; thus the average starting salary is somewhere around $53k.
http://alis.alberta.ca/wageinfo/Content/RequestAct ... - zeth006, on 07/13/2009, -2/+9Good thing I'm on good terms with my parents. I plan on supporting them when it comes time for their retirement because they took good care of me and I know they'll manage their finances responsibly as they always have.
- Presbyterian, on 07/13/2009, -0/+7This may come as a shock, but not everyone is a millionaire.
- rightmindx, on 07/13/2009, -2/+9If we actually had a working privatized health care system that provided an affordable and quality level of health services to all Americans across the board, I might be inclined to agree with you. But, as it stands, you just come across as a selfish, miserly prick.
I'm not a Christian, but I do like this quote from the Book of Matthew.
"Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.' They also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?' He will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least among you, you did not do for me.'" - bjornski, on 07/13/2009, -0/+7And usury would be looked down upon.
- boombume, on 07/13/2009, -1/+8Am I the only one that was disappointed after clicking this and finding it has nothing to do with Gears of War?
- bjornski, on 07/13/2009, -0/+7They deserve it, but that's wishful thinking only.
As soon as they show the slightest loss, they'll be bailed out again.
They'll get your money one way or the other. But have no doubt. They WILL get it.
Isn't a privatized money supply awesome? And you honestly think with FEWER regulations that they'd have LESS influence in government?
We're no longer a democracy. Or a republic. It's an oligopoly.
We're ***** unless we can wrest control of the money supply away from the Federal Reserve. And no, contrary to what the Libertarians keep hooting about, basing it on jewelry isn't the answer.
But let's be honest. Nothing will change. The bankers will always get paid. - wowsah156, on 07/13/2009, -1/+7This report is good cause it shows another reason why the credit card industry will be extinct by 2012.
- KimmyGibbler, on 07/13/2009, -0/+6I would say lawmakers, not lawyers. Lawyers can't just make up laws and sue
- wassim2k, on 07/13/2009, -2/+8Boomers are losers.
- Aroundtown27, on 07/13/2009, -1/+7My point was that I like my national health care which ensures I never have to worry about going bankrupt paying for my PARENTS medical bills.
- pilgrim3970, on 07/13/2009, -0/+6"One individual should not be responsible for the debt of another"
And yet the banks, automobile manufacturers, etc, are being bailed out by the U.S. taxpayers - SirBruce, on 07/13/2009, -0/+6It's a bad law that's only (at least so far as we know) only in Pennsylvania. Blame the lawmakers and get the law changed.
- TextingTina, on 07/13/2009, -0/+5Great...hold the entire family responsible for one moron.
- bjornski, on 07/13/2009, -4/+9Yet another argument for single-payer health coverage.
- bjornski, on 07/13/2009, -0/+5Working for the banks.
- beervolcano, on 07/13/2009, -0/+5Uh... Pieerrrree.. tell that to my friends who just came down here to get an MRI for their daughter. She's having developmental issues in kindergarten. The wait for the test and to see a developmental pediatrician is 24 months.. That's right.. TWO YEARS to get an MRI to check for physiological problems that could be causing her issues.
We have major issues, but so does Canada. - Chakat, on 07/13/2009, -0/+5Because, as the article stated, you can't garnish pensions/social security. So, instead, they went scrambling to find someone to sue.
- Chakat, on 07/13/2009, -1/+6This has little to do with the health care problems and much, much more to do with ***** up legal baggage predating the US. Sane states like California don't have these ***** laws on the books.
- rightmindx, on 07/13/2009, -0/+4If your parents raised and treated you well, you should be doing everything you can to take care of them in their later years if they need help. But no, the law shouldn't force you to do so.
- EricAnderton, on 07/13/2009, -0/+4I hate stairs.
- SmokenJoe, on 07/13/2009, -0/+4Bad title. What happened to our legal system?
- fandyboy, on 07/13/2009, -0/+4What the ***** is this law doing on the books? Land of the Free (Except when getting screwed by parents' debts)
- reeds1999, on 07/13/2009, -3/+7Too bad we don't have Universal Health Care like the civilized world does, then things like this wouldn't happen.
- TheUngod, on 07/13/2009, -0/+4Exactly. If you didn't cosign the loan, you have no part of it. I'm not exactly sure how a loans balance can be forced on you if you didn't gain any benefit from paying it in the first place.
