- foucaultsvac, on 10/28/2009, -0/+8Nice, clear headline, Newsweek.
- halyard, on 10/28/2009, -0/+7One should never wait to spell trouble.
- clippclop, on 10/28/2009, -0/+6OMG BOEING IS HAVING SPELLING PROBLEMS?!?!?!?!
Send your employees to digg, I'm sure they'll have those issues sorted out in a few posts. - JasonCox, on 10/28/2009, -0/+5I don't understand how this is news; whenever Boeing or Airbus attempt to build a brand new aircraft there are *always* delays and inevitably there are always articles posted that talk about how this could lead to financial ruin for the company, how the next generation aircraft is already a flot, etc etc. Just go search Digg for articles relating to the Airbus A380 delays if you want any examples.
- cslawren, on 10/28/2009, -2/+6So keep your mouth shut and only post a relevant comment. Oh, and you're an idiot because last I checked, building a plane out of carbon fiber isn't "outdated" since no one has done it before, at least not on this scale.
- qwertydvorak, on 10/28/2009, -1/+4REPEAT THIS: "reading comprehension is a good thing."
the demand is there, there are 840 of these already ordered. this is about delays in getting them out the door.
on your comment, the demand growth for smaller planes is fuel effeciency. smaller full planes more often -vs- flying big half empty ones. the dreamliner is supposed to be highly fuel effecient.
alot of the demand for larger craft nowadays comes from air freight handlers (ups, fedex) for cargo which is highly profitable compared to passenger flights. especially large craft are good for international cargo flights. - CursorTN, on 10/28/2009, -0/+3We should have smelled trouble when they outsourced the design work to 3D Realms.
- phorofor, on 10/28/2009, -0/+2Oh. Well, we got trouble right here in River City!
- garyjlv, on 10/28/2009, -0/+2If this was easy, everyone would be doing it!
- topstorynz, on 10/28/2009, -1/+3T...R...O...U...U...dammit!
- mnocket, on 10/28/2009, -0/+1The Dreamliner was not approached as a technical program, it was viewed by management as a political program. An engineer would never structure a program like this, only a politician would.
- BotchaMcCoola, on 10/28/2009, -0/+1"We know we can and must do better on our development programs." How could they have overlooked this all those decades?
- GorfTron, on 10/28/2009, -0/+1They need a spell checker to deal with their spelling trouble. That is, unless Tori Spelling gets involved.
- inactive, on 10/28/2009, -0/+1I thought this was going to be about air travel curing dyslexia.
- monodelasno, on 10/28/2009, -0/+1If I'm reading it correctly, the Dreamliner has forestalled Boeings spelling issues.
- Codik, on 10/28/2009, -0/+1The demand is for cheaper air travel. I wouldn't worry about filling big planes over routes such as NY - London or NY - LA.
- lostinseganet, on 10/29/2009, -0/+1Make it double.
- tugger, on 10/29/2009, -0/+1they got a touch of the 'microsofts'..
(institutionally unable to start a new design with a clean sheet of paper).
the best way to tie yourself up with old problems and 50yr old production techniques. - DirtyVicar, on 10/28/2009, -3/+4It's well worth taking a look at Bob Bogash's blog:
http://www.rbogash.com/boeing_delay.html
http://www.rbogash.com/boeing_comments.html
He was a Boeing program manager in the 1990s and paints a profile of yes-man culture and leadership problems at the company. Well worth reading, especially if you scroll down a bit from the first page after he gives the basic backstory. I'd bet dollars to donuts Boeing has tried to shut that site down. - allisonV12, on 10/29/2009, -0/+0So when the Dreamliner gets on track Boeing stock will skyrocket?
Is this kinda like the first iPhone. - tibbon, on 10/28/2009, -1/+1Dreams often stay what they are- dreams. Such is the dreamliner.
- beatfarm, on 10/28/2009, -3/+2give them a government bailout.
- killdashnine, on 10/28/2009, -6/+1No surprise there. Less demand for the big planes these days.
- appleseed1234, on 10/28/2009, -9/+2Frankly I'm not exactly looking forward to another overpriced, outdated tube with wings.
