- fkr3, on 12/06/2007, -0/+11It's a tough one to comment on. The AP guy hit every nail on the head. They have to find a way to make money at a time when people insist anything that can be on the internet has no value.
I especially like "The truly sophisticated understand: an accurate source and timely source of content is more valuable today than ever, given all the nonsense that’s out there electronically". That sums up the need for AP and professional journalism while dismissing all the bloggers beautifully. - inactive, on 12/06/2007, -0/+11In a nutshell: "People won't pay for propaganda, so if we wish to stay relevant in the wake of the upcoming return to sensibility and honest journalism, we need to get back to reporting news that will generate income."
- PhantomRogue, on 12/06/2007, -1/+7I dont mind mainstream, as long as its unbiased and truthful... but i guess thats not mainstream then eh?
- bamafun, on 12/06/2007, -0/+5You know the bubble is back when the associated press is looking to become a portal
- ThyLabyrinth, on 12/06/2007, -0/+5I hope -for the sake of the world- that the mainstream media just ***** lays down in an alley and slowly rots away.
- beathermit, on 12/06/2007, -0/+4they must be reading the article
- Godlike, on 12/06/2007, -1/+4Yeah, Massive Ordinance (hot) Air Blast, directly from the collective mouths of the bloggers who will act pissy because the AP called them out on their indoctrination to pop culture and lack of real reporting ability or journalistic values.
- FredFredrickson, on 12/06/2007, -1/+3Blogs are one of the worst places for rumor and bias to begin!
- FredFredrickson, on 12/06/2007, -1/+2Hmmm... what?
- l00s3r, on 12/06/2007, -0/+1Media businesses have rarely shown the prescience to adapt to new forms of media. I think it's in the nature of news media to be incapable of predicting the future.
- z987k, on 12/06/2007, -0/+1On the point of the local news people being the portal for that area, personally I hate all our local news' websites, tv, newspaper all of them are a cluster ***** of disorganized information. Could they fix it? Yes, but I would like having some kinda of consistency from news site to news site.
- mickrussom, on 12/06/2007, -2/+3The AP is a propaganda wing for the Military Industrial Complex, first spoken of by Dwight Eisenhower.
Ron Paul 2008, FTW. Kick these bastards out of power. - inactive, on 12/06/2007, -0/+1You win!
- FredFredrickson, on 12/06/2007, -0/+1Obviously, you have no understanding of how the news works.
- tamahagane, on 12/06/2007, -0/+1As someone who works in the online newspaper business the market is over due for a shake up. The problem is not AP vs. Google but the newspapers slow progress towards a primarily online format. And if Portals were to continue at the rate in which they are going would you really want a Google Gainsville News and Google Memphis News? The control of news is quite a slippery slope and Yahoo and Google could easily turn into what the 24 hours news channels have become.
- KidDynamo0, on 12/06/2007, -1/+1M.O.A.B.?
- FredFredrickson, on 12/06/2007, -1/+1How do you propose people get their news then? Almost everything reported as news comes down the wire from AP... the so-called "MSM" just picks and chooses what they want to report, and what they don't (AKA the most sensational stuff).
- asdfing, on 12/06/2007, -1/+0balance power ...yeah right..
- FredFredrickson, on 12/06/2007, -2/+1How exactly is mainstream equal to biased and untruthful?
- 4riza4, on 12/06/2007, -2/+0Ya I think it relates directly do digg, especially the comment about first paragraph and images. How do these people expect to exist if no one can discover and link to their content properly? Wonder how off this is from blogs? Personally I think AP will still be credible but most commentary will be done on blogs. Should be interesting future.
- wallyhartshorn, on 12/06/2007, -9/+2This has 71 diggs and no comments? Hmm...

What is Digg?
