- sotopheavy, on 12/05/2007, -10/+96Out of all the companies that I assumed could keep track of inventory Amazon was at the top of my list. They screwed their customers.
- bossm4n, on 12/05/2007, -10/+61Hey Amazon, is the bad press really worth the extra few bucks you're screwing these people out of? How many orders will this cost you because people will think twice about getting screwed?
- eternal464, on 12/05/2007, -4/+38over exaggeration. this article discusses two people with three items. That isn't a black Friday cancellation. Why do people make potentially isolated incidents into such big ordeals? Do you just need drama?
- dnafrequency, on 12/05/2007, -6/+36Regular corporate practice wouldn't you agree?
- _skin_, on 12/05/2007, -4/+25Merry Christmas Amazon Customers!
- Spanktacular, on 12/05/2007, -1/+17Bad press? I've been sick at home with the flu every day this week so far and this is the first I've heard about it. Unless you can get this on the cable news channels, maybe a consumer advocate or two, nothing will change. It's not like this is the first time Amazon has canceled orders.
- matthewrex, on 12/05/2007, -4/+19I totally agree. For being the world's #1 internet retailer, they are sure coming off as total pricks.
- pltnz64, on 12/05/2007, -3/+17Very typical. Overpromise, underdeliver
- crombenevolant, on 12/05/2007, -0/+9I'd be curious to see how widespread this really is. If it is one guy out of thousands it could just be a fluke, if it is more widespread then it is a real problem. I buy a lot of stuff off of Amazon and have found them to be one of the best retailers to work with. I am going to withhold judgement until others come forward (or not).
- inactive, on 12/05/2007, -9/+18Why do people subject themselves to these black friday sales? Especially when there is rebates involved... It's like you know you're going to get *****, yet you continue on with the purchase. Who needs a $100 mouse anyways...
PS - If you stop buying $100 mice, the terrorists win! - ObeseSnake, on 12/05/2007, -1/+9Amazon's been screwing up recently and this is another black eye for them. Anyone that pre-ordered Super Mario Galaxy from Amazon will know what I'm talking about. I canceled all my pre-orders from Amazon after the SMG fiasco.
- heinousjay, on 12/05/2007, -4/+11It's the consumerist. They aren't interested in the truth, they're interested in exaggerating isolated examples and making anybody who attempts to profit look evil.
- Sogui, on 12/05/2007, -0/+7I love keeping transparency in business, but the consumerist acts like its on a crusade against corporations. All these guys are doing is trying to fuel the stereotype that every time someone is on the bad-end of a business practice it's because the company management needed some extra funding for their cognac, monocle, and exotic cigars fund.
- jedicurt, on 12/05/2007, -0/+6Black Friday... is for some god awful reason... the name that has been given to the Friday after Thanksgiving... because it is one of the busiest shopping days in the US as people start their Christmas Shopping
- DjArcadian, on 12/05/2007, -0/+6Who pays more than $20 for a mouse?
- zarkkan, on 12/05/2007, -0/+6Buy.com did the same thing to me so Amazon isn't the only one.
- blueZhift, on 12/05/2007, -1/+6i guess they'll have to turn that smile on the shipping boxes upside down! except that for the canceled orders there won't be any.... *sigh*
- xposiactionx, on 12/05/2007, -1/+6Jesus Christ. Is it really the end of the world? Sh*t happens. Take the refund that you can get by calling them, get off your fat ass, and go to a store to buy it... or better yet, dont wait till Black Friday. The sales for the most part werent great. I bought a ton of stuff the week before and have it sitting nicely under the tree for my kids. They cancelled a few peoples orders... Consumerist is coming to save the day? BS whiney ass people.
- slaystench, on 12/05/2007, -0/+4overreacting Digg users? No way!
- Misaiato, on 12/05/2007, -4/+8Ok the story talks about 1 user having an order for 1 item canceled and two CSRs not marching to the same drum. How is this story proof that Amazon is screwing their customerS
- 3tcp, on 12/05/2007, -3/+7Shipping delays are a zionist conspiracy!
- edpowers, on 12/05/2007, -1/+5I have been on FW and SD since maybe 2000..the rule of hotdealin' is pretty much.. you win some.. you lose some..
if you miss it.. wait for the next deal... amazon has been pretty good with their customer service... if you really look on the SD thread on this issue.. there's a lot of noobs who 'seem' to be recently joined the hotdeal community and really starting bitching and moaning about it... I don't know.. it seems like the hotdeal community has grown too large and that's why it's so hard to do all those super deal like combination of coupon, PM, and rebate...etc. Too many noob and whistle blower :( Move on.. to the next deal already.. NOOB! - matthewrex, on 12/05/2007, -2/+6I've seen crazier price cuts on Black Friday deals, hell CompUSA gives stuff away for FREE after mail-in rebate. I don't think thats a totally "unbelievable" deal at all.
- Nidy1, on 12/05/2007, -0/+4That's great and all Charlie Brown, but I want my hotdog cooker/bun warmer in time for the holidays!
- fkr3, on 12/05/2007, -5/+9Right ... and the people who flocked to the site to exploit a pretty obvious mistake ($90 mouse for $6 after rebate .. come on) are just innocent victims.
- Ascus, on 12/05/2007, -1/+5Sounds like class action time, since they delete order history they have no proof of who did and who did not order from them. Hmm, willful destruction of evidence.... I simply will not order from them, there are many better places to buy online
- harvinator24, on 12/05/2007, -3/+6Its one mouse, not everything from amazon, dont worry.
- sockpuppets, on 12/05/2007, -3/+6Amazon raped my kitten and sent me panty crickets in a box via Amazon Prime. I will never shop there again.
- Matteos, on 12/05/2007, -0/+2Im logging in right now!
- SavageBlackCat, on 12/05/2007, -1/+3I logged-in just to digg your comment up.
- thefandango, on 12/05/2007, -1/+3Amazon KNEW it was black friday and should have planned accordingly.
It's not as if a webmaster was confused as to all the traffic, looks up at his calendar, sees BLACK FRIDAY written in sharpie, and then proceeded to run about the office screaming.
Poor execution. - blog302, on 12/05/2007, -2/+4Amazon's rating just went down like 2 points (out of 10) in 2 days: http://www.resellerratings.com/store/Amazon
whoever thought of this decision to cancel orders without any compensations should get fired. - pen25, on 12/05/2007, -1/+3the thing that pisses me off more then anything is the little caption that says not responsible for errors in pricing. it used to be considered bait and switch to offer something hella cheap(the hook) only to "not have it in stock" the switch. I had an issue with compusa where a external hard drive was signed as 49 bucks but it rang up as 109 i went back showed the sales manager the sign and he said that wasnt correct since those are put out weekly and removed the signage. its not just amazon its dell circuitcity and everyone else out there who has the out clause.
- MackDiesel2010, on 12/05/2007, -2/+4It's interesting that you point out that, in the end, it's just stuff; at least Amazon cannot cancel the love of friends and family.
- Shadowhawk22, on 12/05/2007, -0/+2This is false advertising, I agree. If I had my price increased from the listed price, I'd let them know I was contacting the BBB about this, and maybe have Amazon investigated for false advertising.
- tightscrummy, on 12/05/2007, -0/+2I don't think so. The digg title didn't have "BREAKING!" in it.
- arobar, on 12/05/2007, -0/+2Amazon first posted profits (of $5M USD) in Q4 2001. Even as recently as last quarter they had rising profits (up by 250%, according to this article: http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2007/jul/25/mon ...
- IanCube, on 12/05/2007, -0/+2Yeah I thought that was the strangest thing, why would they delete order history. It's like they have something to hide?
- thefanmyj, on 12/05/2007, -0/+2Digg needs a grammar cop.
- jlungu, on 12/05/2007, -1/+3Because of rampant consumerism, it's the one day that allows many of the large retailers to get into "the black". Make a profit.
- adent1066, on 12/05/2007, -0/+2I'd buy from Amazon.com any day, before I'd ever buy anything again from Circuit-City.com. I've been going thru absolute hell for the last month and a half, trying to straighten out an order with them. CC's customer service absolutely sux
- gotamd, on 12/05/2007, -0/+2I love Amazon, but that sucks :-/ I wouldn't be *too* upset about not getting a mouse that typically sells for near $100 for $7 (after MIR), but I hope we don't see this happening again.
- fistikuffs, on 12/05/2007, -0/+2I'm going to log in really soon and write an awesome comment and get thousands of diggs, loads of chicks and wealth beyond my dreams. Just you wait!
- bernlin2000, on 12/05/2007, -0/+2I've always had good service from Amazon, but if they tried to pull that I'd cancel my order. It's better (and safer) to just shop at a real store on Black Friday. It may be crazy trying to get through the store and get what you want, but the prices are all clearly marked and they can't pull a fast one.
- Vexion, on 12/05/2007, -0/+2I'm pretty sure the bad press IS worth the few bucks. Isn't it someone's job specifically to calculate risk vs. benefit stuff like that?
- SavageBlackCat, on 12/05/2007, -0/+1Complete with taser.
- Dgen_X, on 12/06/2007, -0/+1but I ordered a box of friends and family, with a can of love......and they canceled it!!
- cvrefugee, on 12/05/2007, -0/+1Same thing happened to me, the discussion is even on Fatwallet as well:
http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/messageview.php?ca ... - gypsi, on 12/05/2007, -0/+1not you. i guess it never happens then
