- Diggnabbit, on 09/09/2008, -0/+29Someone made a fortune if they shorted the stock...
- kevintwohy, on 09/09/2008, -1/+28The truth, as it happens, tends to be less important than what people think...
- walkertexas69, on 09/09/2008, -0/+246 year old story on the front page? Are they trying to be Digg?
- ILoveBoobies, on 09/09/2008, -2/+18I watched the level II trades when it happened. Someone bought 93,000 shares for .01 ($930)
Those shares are now worth over $930,000
And you think mrbabyman gamed the system ;)
Nice!! - mzx639, on 09/09/2008, -2/+18Most people are idiots.
- dinobot, on 09/09/2008, -4/+17I see it as a nice case of Schadenfreude/Karma - since United are known for being total douchebags/***** to the passengers
- WiretapStudios, on 09/09/2008, -0/+11Apparently you hate complete sentences.
p.s. ***** off. - VitriolAndAngst, on 09/09/2008, -1/+11Yes, but what are the chances NOW, of them going bankrupt after people have dumped their stock?
This might have been a trick of a large investor. These market manipulations aren't that infrequent. - inactive, on 09/09/2008, -0/+10Seems like a clear case for lawyers to get involved.
What is the Tribune's responsibility in this? - Timpala, on 09/09/2008, -0/+8Wow. Couldn't happen to a bigger bunch of scum.
- Mpwns, on 09/09/2008, -0/+8i bet the onion wishes real life would stop copying them.
- Razormane11, on 09/09/2008, -0/+71. Submit old bankruptcy story

3. Buy stock
4. ???

- pak314, on 09/09/2008, -0/+6Just think of it as legalized gambling.
- cricketsymphony, on 09/09/2008, -0/+6...mostly.
- Ryan32, on 09/09/2008, -1/+7So your saying it's time to buy on the cheap......
- jeffvvisoft, on 09/09/2008, -1/+7United NOT going bankrupt... now that's news
- oldhick, on 09/09/2008, -3/+9A product of the public school system I assume?
- inactive, on 09/09/2008, -0/+5Well, that's a risk of going public. I certainly don't think banning online trading is the answer. If people are stupid enough to do day trading, they should expect to get burned a lot.
- jftitan, on 09/09/2008, -1/+6BWUAHAHAHAHAHAHA UAL... lesson learned. People will ready and jump at anything without verifying the facts. I know I read about this kind of scenario happening in a book awhile back, and all I could think of is how embarrassing for that to actually happen.
- kismetropolis, on 09/09/2008, -1/+6Oh, yes. Very much so. When I have to fly in Chicago, I try every other airline before United because of all the trouble they've given me.
And when I write them to tell them how bad their service is, they send me a certificate to say they're sorry... that is practically impossible to redeem. - TotalHalibut, on 09/09/2008, -0/+5More-so than other airlines?
- gtluke, on 09/09/2008, -1/+5um, and sold it in that window of time.
same money to be made if you bought it in that window of time - bushout, on 09/09/2008, -0/+4Someone could have made a fortune out of this... unfortunately it wasn't me.
- inactive, on 09/09/2008, -0/+4WOOSH!!!
- quietgeek, on 09/09/2008, -0/+4Ah....nice to see something happen because of one of my greatest peevs on the web...
Articles with no Date/Time stamp! Admittedly they just showed the current date, but if they bothered to think about archiving, etc, then the date published/authored/etc is a must have for blogs/articles/etc on the web.
I know I have doing a search, then gettin gan article that's years old.... - bimbom, on 09/09/2008, -0/+3no need for step 4
- SomeRandomGuy, on 09/09/2008, -0/+3Couldn't have happened to a more deserving company. Drive 'em under!
- thcobbs, on 09/09/2008, -0/+3At leat 50% of them anyway.
- thcobbs, on 09/09/2008, -0/+3Its the Inquisition.... no body expects them.
- pintomp3, on 09/09/2008, -0/+3isn't speculation wonderful?
- inactive, on 09/09/2008, -0/+3Stupid people in large numbers are VERY dangerous. Them getting burned affects more than them, it can crash the whole market.
- kalleanka, on 09/09/2008, -0/+3If I could go back in time I would have put in a huge order of buying these stocks for $3 each. Too bad I can't.
- inactive, on 09/09/2008, -5/+8This is exactly why online trading should be banned. Too many ***** idiots involved in the market, making it so volatile that ***** like this can affect lives.
- coolchip, on 09/09/2008, -0/+3Step 4: When prices rise, sell stock.
- savagesteve13, on 09/10/2008, -0/+2The stock market is basically a bunch of people who are willing to run companies into the ground for short term profit. Loyalty is for suckers, its all about money.
- cricketsymphony, on 09/09/2008, -7/+9by my calculations, it was insaincain02
- Rysac1, on 09/09/2008, -0/+2They recovered? *****! I wish they would just go away. ***** United
- Linkin7, on 09/09/2008, -0/+2Time to file again!
- rmxz, on 09/09/2008, -1/+3And what's the liability of the mutual-fund-manager and/or stock advisor who fell for the old news without double-checking his facts.
- arjie, on 09/09/2008, -0/+2Hold on, that's their goddamn job not some beyond-the-call-of-duty stuff. They're supposed to do it right.
Idiot employees. So it was you people, too ***** lazy to do your job right that caused me to lose baggage on my trip home a few years back. I used to think these things used to happen because it was a complex process to get the baggage on the jet but your comment opened my eyes.
Sorry, not a bit of sympathy for you people who think that doing your job is like a favour to everybody. You have unions and stuff, you want to take out your frustrations do it on the goddamned company. What did we customers do? - cornerback42, on 09/09/2008, -2/+4Looks like Wall Street could use a Dupe button.
- nesagwa, on 09/09/2008, -0/+2Sigh, I should watch stock news closer :(
- talonstriker, on 09/09/2008, -0/+2People will ready and jump at anything without verifying the facts.
To be fair, the story did appear in a newspaper of some repute. - saleem, on 09/09/2008, -0/+2Did no one else look at the stock graph on the left to see that it quickly returned to normal price?
- themonkman, on 09/09/2008, -0/+2Allowing your frustrations at work roll over into your customers only increases the likeliness that your job will get worse or disappear altogether. Think about it. If you ***** over a customer because your employer screwed you (an employer that's already in financial trouble), the customers will go to your competitor and cause your company more losses. You can be guaranteed that since the company can't afford to lose any customers that they are just going to continue to roll that shortfall onto you, the employee. Then your job just gets even worse, or disappears. Be glad that you even have a job with this crappy economy.
- israfeel, on 09/09/2008, -0/+2http://untied.com Horror stories about United airlines.
- themonkman, on 09/09/2008, -1/+3Read the friggen article. They are not filing for bankruptcy. That happened in 2002, and the emerged from bankruptcy in 2006.
