- Shaymojack, on 07/05/2009, -0/+45One thing's for sure- they haven't stopped running his ads. Just as I thought the screaming was over with, "BILLY MAYS HERE WITH ANOTHER FANTASTIC PRODUCT!"

....................................................................................................... - missjames, on 07/06/2009, -1/+20i find it creepy and sad. they need a new pitchman, asap.
- inactive, on 07/06/2009, -0/+19I heard Little BIlly Mays may step up ......
- JasonCox, on 07/06/2009, -0/+18"but the demise of Wendy's founder Dave Thomas was devastating to the fast-food company"
It was? Maybe to the marketing department because they couldn't get him to appear in commercials anymore or appear in the openings of new stores, but I don't know anyone that stopped eating at Wendy's just because Dave passed. - AmyVernon, on 07/05/2009, -0/+17Michael Jackson costumes would be a lot scarier.
- BrownieMix, on 07/05/2009, -0/+14They'll probably get Billy's co-star and partner Sully, to advertise new ads.
- sonofabiscuit, on 07/06/2009, -0/+12You're gonna love his nuts.
- Cheezian, on 07/06/2009, -0/+11I'm imagining the complete opposite of Billy, an old, frail women who talks softly. But SELLS product.
- DangerCollie, on 07/06/2009, -0/+10That was interesting about Orville Redenbacher. He wasn't just a pitch man, he was a scientist who did years of research perfecting popcorn.
- Xaevier, on 07/06/2009, -1/+10Wait...how does one make an ad Kosher?
- Falldog, on 07/06/2009, -0/+9"Anthony Sullivan here to tell you about new advertisements for the products you already either own or don't want."
- Bullislander05, on 07/06/2009, -0/+9Don't worry there mate. Hap is here to pick up the slack.
- rangah, on 07/05/2009, -0/+8Michael Jackson costumes have always been popular and scary.

Now with more needles in arms. - whiledo, on 07/06/2009, -0/+8And then he was a CGI animated horror to haunt your nightmares.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fcn4p213Zg8 - Falldog, on 07/06/2009, -0/+8I don't think any child would make the decision to go trick-or-treating as either.
- whiledo, on 07/06/2009, -0/+8I was reading for just this sort of comment. Here's a very telling quote from the article:
"Orville Redenbacher remains the top U.S. popcorn brand, despite its inability to develop a solid campaign."
I don't give a crap about Wendy's advertising. The only thing advertising has done for me is actually drive me AWAY from products (the hyper-campy Old Navy ads have ensured I can never buy their clothes; the rat fetus Quizno's commercials gave me pause, even though I really liked eating there at the time). I know that I'm not necessarily representative of the majority, though. I can see how the great Jack-in-the-Box ads helped it establish itself among the big boys among people who ARE more likely to buy a product due to a positive feeling about the ads.
Granted, without someone like Billy Mays, most of the junk he moved would have never taken off. But that's a completely different kettle of fish. - ralphthemagi, on 07/06/2009, -0/+7hi, milly bays here...
- centran, on 07/06/2009, -1/+8I think products like Oxiclean and Orangeglow have enough brand recognition that it won't matter. However, some of the smaller products will take a hit. If a product is successful then they will re-shot the commercial spot and tweak it. He had a couple products out there that have done well and haven't been re-shot yet and those will take the biggest hit.
I am sure his friend and business partner Sully will take over some products. Sully is a pitchman and a pretty good one. He recognized Billy's fame and since he rather concentrate on producing, often took a backseat to Billy. Smart businessman.
As for Billy's son.... maybe someone will convince him but if you watched the Discovery Channel show Pitchmen then you would know that his son doesn't want to pitch but wants to produce. He has a lot of experience in production, knows his stuff, and is good at it. He will be responsible for many products one day but you won't know his face because he will be producing. - Miamisun, on 07/06/2009, -1/+7I love this article. Every sentence i click on a video and actually see the ads. The writer could have been lazy and just given a brief description of each ad. He went the extra mile to add the video. I had never seen the Brenner, Dean, and Wayne ads before.
- Anand999, on 07/06/2009, -0/+6Billy Mays was memorable. Anthony Sullivan isn't, IMO. Despite seeing Sullivan a thousand times on TV beforehand, I had no idea who he was when I started watching the first episode of Pitchmen. It wasn't until after Pitchmen that I saw these old commercials again and thought "oh, that's Anthony Sullivan."
Billy Mays, on the other hand, was instantly recognizable as soon as the Oxiclean commercials started airing. - MasterGrief, on 07/06/2009, -0/+6I hope not. Snooty English jerk.
- diemunkiesdie, on 07/06/2009, -0/+6I stopped while they started those retarded commercials of grown men wearing those horrible red pigtail wigs. But now those commercials are gone! Yay!
- brownsound00, on 07/06/2009, -0/+5ah yes, the beard is still full in ASCII character
- PhillyMJS, on 07/06/2009, -0/+5Since we're in a recession, I think Billy Mays will be popular. All you need is a blue shirt, khakis, a fake beard, and maybe a container with "Oxi-Clean" written on it.
- Super6, on 07/06/2009, -0/+4Billy moves products, watch Pitchmen on Discovery
- inactive, on 07/06/2009, -0/+4It must be recorded on film with 0% pork content.
- TheOther1, on 07/06/2009, -0/+3The hooker did not.
- mikebritton, on 07/06/2009, -0/+3Advertising isn't rocket science, despite all the fuss and bother over it among advertising professionals who stand to profit on complex and expensive campaigns. Honestly, a good TV ad nowadays might just be a logo onscreen for sixty seconds! If I were to make a Wendy's ad, I'd show some food onscreen with music, then show their logo for ten seconds; this would play well on Tivo fast-forward.
- XanderFrost, on 07/06/2009, -0/+3werent we all forced to read it in middle school or at least high school?
- smacksaw, on 07/06/2009, -0/+3Joey Ramone seems exponentially less punk and cool after hearing he would not approve of some shoes because he's Jewish and the shoes weren't kosher.
That's not very punk at all. In fact, that's quite conformist. I'm disappointed. - NeonDistraction, on 07/06/2009, -0/+2Wait, how was the death of Dave Thomas devastating to Wendy's? If I remember correctly, the week following his death Wendy's experienced record sales. And they don't seem to have fallen in terms of their overall position in the market the last few years...so how exactly does one construe that as devastating?
- 2T0ne, on 07/06/2009, -0/+2Billy Loman?
- lordmike, on 07/06/2009, -1/+3Heh... I was rummaging through the closet today, and I found my unopened "As Seen on TV" wire stripper with Billy Mays on the cover... RIP, Billy....
- PhillyMJS, on 07/06/2009, -1/+3Ugh... they had to go and mention those creepy ads with the phony Orville Redenbacher. Now I'm gonna have nightmares again.
Also, if the Yul Brynner ads were about not smokng, were the John Wayne cancer spots about not shooting a movie downwind from a busy A-bomb testing site? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_conqueror#Cancer_ ... - THEKapnobatai, on 07/06/2009, -0/+2Just wait until they start superimposing BILLY MAYS head onto a stunt doubles body to do ads. Or wait until Brisk starts using a clay BILLY MAYS to sell their tea.
Oh wait...that was Bruce Lee - geniusNOTatWORK, on 07/06/2009, -0/+2http://twitpic.com/91pyh
I think he should continue his father's legacy - ahpro, on 07/05/2009, -2/+4I would've thought it would be awkward for Oxiclean to come up with new commercials, because everybody will watch them thinking about how he's missing from them because he died.
- HawgFrog, on 07/06/2009, -0/+2Now maybe I can quit wearing out my mute button. Every time Mays face pops up I slam on the mute. It is time they got another pitchman, one that doesn't bust your eardrums and insult you intelligence.
- spookyttws, on 07/06/2009, -0/+2"Rosebud... Yes, Rosebud frozen peas! Filled with country goodness and green pea-ness... wait, that's terrible, I quit!"-- Orson Welles (From the Critic: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IH1PJTY9AVA%29 Also:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f3B3C5hR1lk)
- inactive, on 07/06/2009, -0/+2He sure "slapped his troubles away" down in Florida, didn't he. ;O)
- ChileanGoD, on 07/06/2009, -2/+4... I bet there are going to be more Billy May costumes because...if YOU CALL NOW!! YOU WILL GET A SECOND BILLY MAY COSTUME, NO CHARGE!
- TheGuruStud, on 07/06/2009, -0/+2We had a sub teacher in high school that looked identical to Orville. It was uncanny.
We just outright called him Redenbacher lol. - ichbeineinrcg, on 07/06/2009, -0/+2Watch it, don't read it. Dustin Hoffman as Willy Loman was one of the most moving things I've ever seen.
- Rememberence, on 07/06/2009, -0/+2Why did I click that while knowing what it was.
Gah. - mikebritton, on 07/06/2009, -1/+3They need to bring in the Sham-Wow guy. Sure, he's flawed and occasionally gets arrested, but that helps consumers connect with the product.
