- Bentleyk9, on 10/24/2009, -1/+32***** you, AT&T. How about using some of that money to address you existing customers' legit complaints about your ***** service and spotty 3G network?
- jackjkaplan, on 10/24/2009, -1/+24A free addon that easily quashes millions of dollars worth of ads that I didn't ask for? Priceless.
- mjoe, on 10/24/2009, -2/+25I didn't know there were ads on these sites
- jacobjohnson, on 10/24/2009, -3/+24Firefox + Adblock FTW!
- n0nau, on 10/24/2009, -1/+13Here are the numbers from the same research company for Digg.com

LOL. Teeth whitening. - VoodooChild117, on 10/24/2009, -0/+9You realize cellphone companies charge customers to end their contract, right?
- rnawky, on 10/24/2009, -1/+9It blows my mind that a company can spend so much money on advertising and have such ***** service.
I've had at&t for years, but only because my father gets a deal through his company for a discount. However, my 3G speeds went straight to hell after the iPhone came out.
They really need to fix their *****. - BenTheTank, on 10/24/2009, -2/+9And of course, 90% of Diggers saw 0% of those ads.
- Bentleyk9, on 10/24/2009, -0/+7You're right, thcobbs. How silly of me to think I would get the service I signed up for and am paying for. I guess little old me and the thousands of other people complaining about this are simply greedy to expect corporations to "bow down to our individual whims" by holding up their end of the contract. We were under the impression that if you pay for a product or service, we would actually get it. Wow, we were retarded. Thanks for setting me straight!
Well, I'm off to go pay over $100 to cancel my plan and sign up for another ***** company's so they can have my soul for two years. - moredown, on 10/23/2009, -2/+8Gotta spend money to make money
- perrycarter, on 10/24/2009, -1/+7Maybe AT&T should spend more money fixing their sub-par customer service instead of spending money on interest advertisements that nobody looks at.
- rnawky, on 10/24/2009, -0/+5The company he works for is on that list.
Looks like I'm going to have to give him a call.
Thanks for the info. - perrycarter, on 10/24/2009, -1/+6Usually with Hollywood movies, the more money they spend on advertising the worse the movie is. Just throwing that out there.
- johnwayne1, on 10/24/2009, -0/+5LMAO. I was just getting ready to type the same thing! ***** AT&T and their garbage service.
- danconia, on 10/24/2009, -0/+4Yeah WTF that teeth whitening stuff is some random...
- magic6435, on 10/24/2009, -0/+4Are you retarded? AT&T does about 124 BILLION in sales meanwhile apple is around 9. Ofcourse you don't see apple on that list .. or very many others.
- supermanly, on 10/24/2009, -0/+3Most likely he has a corporate discount, and many companies have such discounts across the different carriers. I don't know what company he works for/if you're comfortable sharing that info, but if your father's company is on the following list, then he has a discount with Verizon too.
http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/hot-deals/854971
And there's similar lists for other companies. Now some people have had success saying they work for a company and getting that discount via phone (because otherwise you'd need an email), but I'm not going to advocate that. - supermanly, on 10/24/2009, -0/+2No problem.
- BDS1400, on 10/24/2009, -0/+2I question this story's accuracy. The Park Auto Mall is listed as a large spender in the story. It is a medium sized dealership that reports 1000 visitors a day to its website. There is no way they can afford a multi-million dollar ad spend.
- DrZsbl, on 10/24/2009, -0/+2Wait a sec AT&T spends half a billion on online advertising a year? Holy *****.
- benow, on 10/24/2009, -2/+4Adblock FTW++, ads (as they are) suck. Find a better business model.
- 416BC, on 10/24/2009, -0/+1Wow. AT&T isn't doing a good thing by spending that much advertising. I mean do you see Apple on this list anywhere? My point is with all the iPhone buzz for the last 3 years, AT&T could spend less on advertising, more on their network, and gain a lot more customers. It's not all about advertising anymore, it's about who stands behind their product or service.
- thcobbs, on 10/24/2009, -0/+1@Bentley
You don't HAVE to have a cellphone. Get a land line for $30/month and an answering machine. Just because you agreed to a stupid contract doesn't mean you should blame them for it. I've lived on a stipend before... yes it sucks, but I also was smart enough not to go out and buy a cellphone.
And if your school/professor requires you to have one. Ask to get it expended, or a bump in the stipend to cover the requirement. - Bentleyk9, on 10/24/2009, -0/+1You're right again! If only I could afford to pay the $175 cancellation fee (free money! That will teach them a lesson!) and all the ridiculous start-up fees to a different cellphone company... but I'm clearly not taking charge of my life because I'm wasting all of my money on frivolous things like food and grad school. I'm such an idiot.
Seriously though, just because you don't have a problem with AT&T, it doesn't mean no one else does. Just because you could afford to switch companies, doesn't mean everyone can. Yeah I would love to switch, but I simply can't afford it. I can't even afford the cancellation fee. This doesn't mean I lack common sense or can't take charge of my life, it means my grad school stipend puts me at the poverty line. Tough ***** for those of us who cant afford it but stop being a dick about it. - elcalrissian, on 10/24/2009, -2/+3I was amazed to see News Corp spending so much for the NY Times.
Fox News? Weird - perrycarter, on 10/24/2009, -0/+1Acutally it is quite fitting considering the article.
- Rotzooi, on 10/24/2009, -0/+1I wonder, does AdBlock actually load the ad, but not show it (counting as an impression) or is the originating website completely blocked?
- perrym, on 10/24/2009, -0/+1i dont see the ad's (ABP FTW) and barely visit the NYT anyway but i imagine NWS is putting up ad's for the WSJ not FNC.
(too many acronyms FTL?) - gvoakes, on 10/23/2009, -1/+2It's rule #1
- fupresti, on 10/24/2009, -0/+1How many towers does 42 million buy AT&T?
- stormspire, on 10/24/2009, -1/+1As in a Pay Gate?
- 416BC, on 10/24/2009, -0/+0I guess just seeing how much they spend more than the other guys just made me think they were over spending in the wrong areas.
- epyon180, on 10/24/2009, -1/+1Wow I didn't see apple on any of those lists (especially new york times) ,considering how much mind share apple has its pretty surprising.
- pigtown, on 10/24/2009, -1/+1Based on impression? BURIED.
- osteor10, on 10/24/2009, -1/+1might wanna invest in some real ads....somewhere else also.
- mozzep, on 10/24/2009, -2/+1Customers don't matter. Only shareholders and profits. If customers do matter, it's only incidental.
Also, they spend 500 million a year on advertising, which is nothing compared to what they spend on other areas. - thcobbs, on 10/24/2009, -3/+1If they are really that *****, I'd pay the $120 just to cancel the contract and call it cutting my losses. Of course, that's common sense and taking charge of my life. But that's lost on most people now-a-days.
- thcobbs, on 10/24/2009, -9/+2Funny thing is I've never had trouble... and if you're that SOL, why don't you switch companies?
You know... the best way to get a company to pay attention to "legit complaints" is to leave. Because if there really are "legit complaints" you won't be the only one leaving....
***** a.... now we even expect Corporations bow down to our individual whims? What the ***** ever happened with "voting with you feet". There are other companies out there! If you like them less than AT&T, then just quit paying for a cell phone!
