99% - Japan
1% Other - cubuffs155, on 06/13/2009, -3/+66Never knew that Canada was the second largest oil producer
- hootie233, on 06/13/2009, -8/+68what a terrible graphic map, how are my drunk eyes supposed to follow these tiny lines???
- slangille, on 06/13/2009, -2/+56Note to Obama - Splurge on the Christmas fruit&Cheese basket for each country on the
list. - josepablos, on 06/13/2009, -2/+52Europe only produce HEAVY METAL!-
- gvoakes, on 06/13/2009, -4/+46I'm in your World, stealin' your resources
- inactive, on 06/13/2009, -4/+44Why isn't Kazakhstan on this list as the world's number one exporter of Potassium?
- RogerStrong, on 06/13/2009, -1/+39And possibly the largest, since the chart is based on "proven reserves".
OPEC limits the amount of oil its members export, based on "proven reserves". Many believe that Saudi Arabia and other OPEC countries greatly overestimate their "proven reserves", to allow them to sell more. - kernel16, on 06/13/2009, -0/+32Damn, for the longest time I thought Canada had the largest supply of fresh water...
- doublefelix, on 06/13/2009, -1/+29For USA's sake, I hope the distant futures market bode well for high fructose corn syrup and soylent green.
- Acecrow, on 06/13/2009, -1/+26Why?
- kennethsteven1, on 06/13/2009, -2/+26Since humans and animals have needed to eat, perhaps?
- zoomaKabu, on 06/13/2009, -1/+24RESERVES not producer. It's mostly oil-sands. Expensive to get out.
- vosik, on 06/13/2009, -3/+24Few decades from now the only resource which would matter would be fresh water.
- ryanonfire, on 06/13/2009, -0/+20Yeah isn't Canada the number one oil exporter to the US.
- grummbaleena, on 06/13/2009, -0/+17Anyone else notice the random border line in the northern half of Canada? Last time I checked the Northwest Territories wasn't another country...
- c0mputar, on 06/13/2009, -13/+31I always feel weird when I see Canada on a list alongside such countries.
- mark076h, on 06/13/2009, -4/+21Aren't there a lot more Precious Resources than just those?
- canuckluck, on 06/13/2009, -1/+18Those countries don't have the same level of transparency as us. Furthermore, their economy is dependent on their oil production, they'll do anything it takes to drill more oil....even if it means lying.
They are doing it for the quick cash--live fast, die young - ryanonfire, on 06/13/2009, -0/+17Same with Australia. I'm like *****, we got gold, diamonds and uranium O.O
- Railz, on 06/13/2009, -11/+27No more growth.
- inactive, on 06/13/2009, -2/+17That's because Australia is smart enough to hang on to it until the rest of the world blows through it's 20%. And unlike the Arabs, who can't afford to hang on to their oil (because they want money to build enough infrastructure to finally progress their lifestyles beyond 100AD), Australia isn't hurting for Uranium money.
- canuckluck, on 06/13/2009, -2/+17Oh Canada OH OH OH!!!!
PS. since when is soybean considered a resource in the same league as oil, water, and gold etc. - brownsound00, on 06/13/2009, -0/+15Don't forget Tiberium and Vespene gas
- RogerStrong, on 06/13/2009, -0/+14It's easy, if you do it deliberately, and you don't share the real numbers.
- grandinferno, on 06/13/2009, -2/+16They clearly forgot bacon.
- jackwk, on 06/13/2009, -1/+15direct link without stupid popup crap

- HtomSirveaux, on 06/13/2009, -2/+14Are you saying that you can drink oil?
- mxxz, on 06/13/2009, -0/+11It is they just split Canada into two countries for some reason.
- davidschuster, on 06/13/2009, -0/+11It's also odd that they split Canada in half.
- pigfister, on 06/13/2009, -2/+13are you the USA by any chance :-/
- rubixcubez, on 06/13/2009, -2/+12Australia produces less uranium than canada? Shame, we have 80% of all the world's uranium.
- DarkBlueAnt, on 06/13/2009, -0/+10Sometimes I feel this way, but sometimes I feel like their eyes would explode if they saw some of the things we watch. I literally just watched a show where an elephant pulling an airplane raced against 50 midgets pulling an airplane.
- l31101, on 06/13/2009, -5/+15Very surprised to see Canada at #2 for oil.... you would think the US would've invaded them by now since they are right across the border
- bugwayji, on 06/13/2009, -0/+9 Actually, Canada has the most. But it is a secret, National Security for the Western World in case of a World War that cuts off America's supply from the Middle East.
- bugwayji, on 06/13/2009, -0/+9 To bad you don't benefit from it, Corporate Canada does.
- Ghostalker, on 06/13/2009, -0/+9I was always taught that the Great Lakes in North America have something like 5/8ths of the worlds liquid freshwater in them. Even Wikipedia agrees with me for once:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fresh_water#Water_dis ...
- kefkaantakrist, on 06/13/2009, -1/+10Interesting fact: Iraq is almost 26x as big as Kuwait, but... they have about the same amount of oil.
- RogerStrong, on 06/13/2009, -9/+17Percentage of world gold production:
12% - China
11% - South Africa
11% - United States
7% - Peru
An honest question:
What are the implications of this, if the U.S. were to switch back to the gold standard as the Ron Paul fans want? - Ghostalker, on 06/13/2009, -0/+8Lake Ontario ain't much better, I assure you. But dirty freshwater is easier to make potable than saltwater.
- Barackalypse, on 06/13/2009, -6/+14I've got 11 trillion reasons why a fiat currency is a stupid idea, and we're adding over a trillion more each year (that would be dollars worth of debt, effectively we're monitizing it, which is why the value of our currency has plummeted over the last decades).
- kaptainchump, on 06/13/2009, -1/+9Because Potassium is an illegal drug?
- buckrogers1965, on 06/13/2009, -0/+8Actually you do eat "oil", since fertilizer is made from fossil fuels.
Natural gas to be technically exact. But Natural Gas production follows the same production curve as peak oil.
Once we reach peak fossil fuel we are so screwed unless we have a back up plan already in place. - replaysMike, on 06/13/2009, -0/+7Have resources, will consider trades.
- ThaATrain, on 06/13/2009, -0/+7Because you have your priorities straight
- Pasaris, on 06/13/2009, -0/+7I always thought that Canada was #1 for fresh water.
- fonebone, on 06/13/2009, -2/+9OMG, what a bunch of bull(ion).
- theodenking, on 06/13/2009, -0/+7More than that, modern farming methods are completely dependent on oil-driven machines. Without them the world production of food would be only a fraction of what is now.
- inactive, on 06/13/2009, -0/+7You overestimate proven reserves by proving it yourself and not allowing independent verification.
