- Frankzulla, on 11/09/2009, -0/+103I agree. It should only drive them to be a better competitor; not to litigation.
- AngryDeuce, on 11/09/2009, -1/+76Verizon's advertisement's are completely legitimate...AT&T should just give it up and spend those legal fees on improving it's network. Although, honestly, I think it may be too late for them. I hope Apple has a back up plan...
- Truedirt, on 11/09/2009, -1/+56There is no crying in cell phone coverage. Either you got the goods or you don't. Let your deeds be your mouthpiece
- elliotys, on 11/10/2009, -1/+53The worst thing about the iphone. . . AT&T
- mynameisjudge, on 11/10/2009, -1/+35"Instead of trying to do damage control and prevent others from pointing out its flaws, AT&T should just solve the problem."
I'm the no-***** police and I'm here to say: No *****. - copywriteink, on 11/09/2009, -3/+30AT&T would have better off picking on customer service issues that plague Verizon. Headline: "There ain't an app for that."
- sbcea, on 11/09/2009, -1/+25Litigation is easier. :0/
- norman619, on 11/10/2009, -0/+22LOL!!! ATT's 3G coverage is a joke. Fact is Verizon's 3G coverage is FAR better. This is why ATT is not arguing 3G coverage but regular cell coverage.
- PolarBearFire, on 11/10/2009, -0/+22It was Steve Jobs' decision, his excuse of having better service through having one provider is all BS. I know ATT wasn't his first choice, but he still should have tried to work things out with Verizon. He could've opened up the iPhone, but he didn't, so I know I am in the minority but I blame Jobs first and foremost. He made a financial choice, and I can respect that, but everyone gives him a free pass regarding his relationship with ATT.
- diggydougie, on 11/10/2009, -1/+22Why compete when you can litigate.
- MrZaiko, on 11/10/2009, -1/+18Verizon is good when it comes to coverage and WAY less dropped calls.
...They just have to fix their Douchebaggery ways of control and price. - AmyVernon, on 11/09/2009, -0/+12In the end, it can be more expensive. :-)
- getjustin, on 11/10/2009, -0/+11http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Streisand_effect
- Ymeg, on 11/10/2009, -0/+11Their lawsuit should be in Verizons next ad.
- shawnfromnh, on 11/10/2009, -0/+11Maybe AT&T should stop paying out those huge corporate bonuses since they have not been earned by falling behind and put the money into their infrastructure and make the company more valuable. AT&T used to be cutting edge and the top dog and like a lot of corporations in the last decade they let greed and cost cutting instead of reinvestment put them at a disadvantage.
- AiR1890, on 11/10/2009, -2/+10The iphone is like a tasty apple, and the worm inside that tasty apple is AT&T.
- norman619, on 11/10/2009, -1/+9They do. They are letting other carriers offer their phone very soon.
- Phatlip012, on 11/10/2009, -0/+8That's not quite the case anymore though, now that they have Android phones and all. I guess they could say "There's not a fart app for that"?
;) - time4wrk, on 11/10/2009, -0/+7The cell phone companies are to big to Fail, We need them to restructure their business model instead of screwing us the consumer.
- AresDiggs, on 11/10/2009, -0/+6RTFA - Its about the wireless branches not the home cable/internet side
- dublea2, on 11/10/2009, -0/+6If you promote 3G coverage and services you should have it cover at least 50% of what voice covers before rollout (IMO). That being said, they don't have a large enough 3G coverage and people outside that area wouldn't benefit from 3G being in the name of the phone as they wouldn't be able to use the data to begin with. I work at a PC repair company and most of my sales and on-sight techs have dropped their iPhone for not being able to use 3G data when they needed it, even in coverage. AT&T just wasn't ready for the rush of customers that Apple dropped at its doors.
- bromanct, on 11/10/2009, -0/+6A big part of the reason I bought verizon's droid is that I did *not* want to move to at&t. No regrets yet...
- PhillyMJS, on 11/10/2009, -0/+6Lawyers are cheaper than making their network not suck.
- V1ncent, on 11/10/2009, -0/+6The Holiday Maps ads from Verizon are hysterical!
- akseitz, on 11/10/2009, -0/+5Companies like AT&T have long standing histories of poor crisis management. Examples are the Brent Spar with Shell, Exxon Valdez, BP's Texas City fiasco... and the list goes on. Companies like McDonalds and Starbucks take heat for being large but they have well developed programs designed to deal with this kind of fiasco. Private politics trumps public politics almost every time.
- methdwman3, on 11/10/2009, -0/+5I've had At&t for years, and they are horrible. The Verizon commercials are spot on.
- Elranzer, on 11/10/2009, -0/+5AT&T 1980s (Ma Bell) ≠ AT&T today
AT&T today = SBC/Cingular + AT&T IP name
AT&T (Ma Bell) = Verizon and SBC/Cingular - efitz11, on 11/10/2009, -0/+5Go look up the map on AT&T's website. There's a reason they're not disputing the accuracy of the map.
- mithrasinvictus, on 11/10/2009, -0/+5Streisand effect?
- Peach3s, on 11/10/2009, -0/+5There is a word for this.... some effect.. i cannot remember the name
- dublea2, on 11/10/2009, -1/+6Uh huh, Riiiiiiight. I do believe there are stupid people out there but that is why your there, to provide information to show that they can use voice and slower data outside the area.
- norman619, on 11/10/2009, -1/+5Not in this case. They have no real case.
- TaylorSPL, on 11/10/2009, -0/+3Your customers are idiots. AT&T has had ample time, YEARS, to fix their network since the first iPhone was released. If they had we wouldn't be having this discussion.
- JohnnySoftware, on 11/10/2009, -0/+3Careful, next someone will get the idea to put 20 minutes of commercials per hour into court cases and then jury duty will be even less fun.
- toastjam, on 11/10/2009, -0/+3Then they should hire more engineers and less lawyers.
- QuimbyDogg, on 11/10/2009, -1/+4That is great that you have 3G service on at&t -- and pretty understandable if you live in the coverage area. I live around Chicago so most of my friends that have at&t have 3g coverage too! wow. What Verizon's ad does is highlight how few of those areas there are in the US compared to their own service. Also Apple is not disputing the 3g coverage comparison at all -- their entire argument is that stupid people in the population will assume the gaps are for standard talk service - not just 3g. In other words, it is a stupid excuse to pull the ads showing their lack of 3g coverage.
But I guess you don't know that since you haven't actually taken the time to watch the commercial, or read about it even though you were able to comment on the article -- guess you haven't figured out how to do that on your iphone yet.
Bottom line is at&t is throwing all this money at a court case instead of fixing the 3g coverage problem (that they essentially acknowledge). How does that make you feel as a customer? - makenshin, on 11/10/2009, -0/+3Yes, but at least Verizon's prices come with a benefit: better infrastructure. All around Verizon keeps building new better infrastructure and AT&T keeps using their old infrastructure with new technology. Not just in wireless though, AT&T offers DSL only still (of course the 6mbps [AT&T's fastest plan] plan for a mere $35/month is AWESOME!) vs Verizon's fiber optic to home (FiOS) (their cheapest plan being 15down/5up mbps for an expensive less than double the price $50-55/month for about 3x the down speed, and far more than that upload speed).
All around, Verizon offers better services, so the extra little price tags are usually worth it. Only thing keeping AT&T going usually is misinformation, or monopolies (iPhone & service areas). I can't get FiOS for example because it's AT&T's territory. - Elranzer, on 11/10/2009, -0/+3Considering Verizon has plenty of Blackberry, Windows Mobile and Android devices... there's plenty of (real) apps for that.
iFart? Not so much. - HotLeper, on 11/10/2009, -0/+3Unfortunately I don't see people willing to give up their iphone by switching to Verizon.
- TheSpook, on 11/10/2009, -1/+4*fewer
- mike42979, on 11/10/2009, -0/+2Ok i dont know when or how much it cost Verizon to build their 3g network but with all the money pouring in from iphone contracts cant AT&T build a network already? And if so shouldnt they do this before the iPhobe jumps ship? Also does anyone think sprint can be a good buy long term because of the 4g network there building?
- Shmebber, on 11/10/2009, -1/+3And when they do, maybe I'll actually shell out the money for one of them iPhones...
- dublea2, on 11/10/2009, -0/+2I worked retail for 7 years, yes, yes they do.
- TaylorSPL, on 11/10/2009, -0/+2My buddies Palm Pre has better reception than my iPhone, they're doing something right.
- icantdenythis, on 11/10/2009, -0/+2AT&T spends a ridiculous amount of money on lobbying. . . Maybe if they focused their efforts more on their network they would do better.
http://www.opensecrets.org/lobby/top.php?indexType ... - phyx726, on 11/10/2009, -0/+2I got a droid and frankly if Iphone was on Verizon I'd probably would have gotten it a long time ago. I don't hate either phone. I'm not fond of Verizon either because of the prices but AT&T is just so much worse.
- randomerratum, on 11/10/2009, -0/+2Sadly, i'll back that up.
I absolutely LOVE my iPhone. I work freelance for many clients at once. I use nearly every standard feature on a daily basis. The calendar syncs with my mac instantly. My contacts are backed up automatically. Visual voicemail is a god-send when prioritizing client projects. Honestly, it's become a dependable and central part of how I conduct my business...
that being said, in the last two or three months - the network started dropping more then 25% of all my calls (before 5pm it's really bad, after 6 I rarely have probems). Often my phone never rings - a voicemail will just show up an hour later. It's embarrassing and it's getting noticeably worse with time. It's not a reception issue - I've always got 4 bars. In fact, even when I'm out of town and have no bars, I still usually even have 3G.
Probably what irks me the most, (even more then the fact that somehow text messaging doesn't fall under "Unlimited Data") is the fact that I'm faithfully fulfilling my end of a 2-year contract despite how AT&T is blatantly snubbing theirs.... AT&T is getting a free ride out of me just because Apple made a kick ass phone.
And no, I'm not hacking/jail-breaking or otherwise pwning my iPhone for reasons I'm not getting into here. - stuffradio, on 11/10/2009, -0/+2Buy 'em out boys!
- tza999, on 11/10/2009, -0/+2Clearly we know this, care to spread the enlightenment to AT&T?
- invinciblenow, on 11/10/2009, -0/+1I guess what you're saying isn't what people want to hear, but you're exactly right, AT&T IS SLOWLY fixing their network, AND suing Verizon, it's two steps...
And lawyers make crappy construction workers IMHO... -
