- wannaBdug, on 07/10/2009, -4/+120Seriously? Really come on-seriously?
- janjamm, on 07/10/2009, -1/+99My favorite lines:
"Meanwhile, this week, a Citigroup analyst warned that AIG might be worthless to shareholders if or when it ever pays back the billions it owes the U.S. government.
'Our valuation includes a 70 percent chance that the equity at AIG is zero,' Joshua Shanker of Citigroup wrote in a note to investors."
Absurdity abounds. - jaybudzik, on 07/10/2009, -5/+94This is an embarassment. These people should be fired.
- electricwaffles, on 07/10/2009, -2/+84I would like some bonus, please.
- inactive, on 07/10/2009, -1/+77That's what you get when you bail these ***** out.
Let them go bankrupt and let the economy restructure! - alanocu, on 07/10/2009, -4/+52I’m probably a little late to this point, but if the $165 million paid to AIG employees as bonuses is really wasteful and we should get it back for our tax money, shouldn’t those responsible for it pay us back? That’s not the AIG employees who are just following their own contracts they agreed to but to the people who approved those contracts. So shouldn’t all the Congressmen who voted for the stimulus get together and pay back the $165 million with their own personal funds?
- Akairenn, on 07/10/2009, -1/+49If by fired, you mean out of a cannon into the side of a cliff, agreed.
- BottledViolence, on 07/10/2009, -2/+40What exactly are the conditions of receiving a bonus there? "Well, you lost billions and we crippled the economy based on your job performance. On the other hand, we only caught you ***** a goat in your office twice. Great job, Steve!"
- statik99, on 11/03/2009, -2/+38I'd like to say I'm surprised... but I'm not. Some people never learn.
- inactive, on 07/10/2009, -1/+32Should have announced and paid these quickly when MJ died.
- dysphonix, on 07/10/2009, -8/+35Time to re-introduce the guillotine.
- MayorMcCheapo, on 07/10/2009, -1/+26Okay, are we over the "too big to fail" part of this yet? Somebody should fail... I mean besides you and me. (you are failing too, right?)
- senorboombino, on 07/10/2009, -3/+28Allow me to quote Jules Winnfield in regards to what I think of these bonuses:
"The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee. " - MyTakes, on 07/10/2009, -4/+27***** these *****.
- taikyokuken, on 07/10/2009, -2/+23shouldn't have*
And while we're at it, you're right, no they ***** shouldn't have, god damn it. - FuZi0nDET, on 07/10/2009, -1/+21What the *****? How do these guys keep getting bonuses? Congrats you helped ***** the economy and ***** taxpayers out of billions, here's a bonus! I just don't ***** get it.
It's perfectly fine to save a piece of ***** company like AIG, but it isn't ok to save Chrysler, or GM? Talk about a bunch of *****, I understand that the leaders of both GM and Chrysler are purely to blame for their failure, but the overwhelming majority of their employees weren't. Less we also forget all of other people this bankruptcy *****, yet the guys responsible for this economic Apocalypse get more money!
***** it, I'm going to drop a resume in over at AIG. Apparently I could get some of my taxes back?! - jimoneildmb, on 07/10/2009, -8/+24Explain to me why that doesn't meet the definition of treason?... wtf is wrong with these greedy bastards?!!!!....
- beervolcano, on 07/10/2009, -0/+16This is like loaning a friend money to pay some bills and then seeing him with a new watch the next week. If he could afford a new watch, why hasn't he paid you back yet?
- MadEnvoy, on 07/10/2009, -1/+17No. They've learned plenty - they've learned that there are no repercussions for big business and that they can do as they please.
- Aadain, on 07/10/2009, -4/+20I work for a *profitable* company that actually *makes products*, not just shuffling paper around to create the allusion of generating wealth, and the company in mass put bonuses and raises on hold this year so they didn't have to do layoffs in this economy (did I mention they are still profitable, just not as much as usual).
WHY THE ***** IS AIG GIVING OUT BONUSES???!?!?!?!?!
The company as a whole is on life-support. What idiots think giving out *any* bonuses, even to good employees, is a smart thing to do or agree to do in a contract regardless of the health of the company????
Let AIG Die! - inactive, on 07/10/2009, -1/+16Same scenario, same comments. We deserve the ass raping we're getting.
- Barackalypse, on 07/10/2009, -3/+18Since the last round of bonuses, the Government has interfered and essentially seized GM and Chrysler from the legitimate bondholders and yet we're still towing the line that AIG are somehow the bad guys? Wake up, the Government made this possible, the only reason you care is because they're giving away money borrowed in your name, and the only reason that is possible is because of the crooks in Washington.
- bobartig, on 07/10/2009, -0/+15AIG,
This is really not the time or the place. If you have to ask, it's too much.
your pal,
-common sense - inactive, on 07/10/2009, -0/+14You mean the debt they owe the taxpayers, right?
- ousthouse, on 07/10/2009, -4/+18If I was an executive at a failed company... and the government wrote the company a big ass check... I'd write myself a huge check and so would you.
We need to be angry as the corrupt ***** who GAVE them this money. - Donotsurf, on 07/10/2009, -1/+15"I been sayin' that ***** for years. And if you ever heard it, it meant your ass. I never really questioned what it meant. I thought it was just a cold-blooded thing to say to a ***** before you popped a cap in his ass. But I saw some ***** this mornin' made me think twice. Now I'm thinkin': it could mean you're the evil man. And I'm the righteous man. And Mr. 9mm here, he's the shepherd protecting my righteous ass in the valley of darkness. Or it could be you're the righteous man and I'm the shepherd and it's the world that's evil and selfish. I'd like that. But that ***** ain't the truth. The truth is you're the weak. And I'm the tyranny of evil men. But I'm tryin', Ringo. I'm tryin' real hard to be a shepherd. "
- aliasfallen, on 07/10/2009, -1/+13Oh ***** you AIG. While most are staying flat or getting pay cuts you ***** are giving out bonuses with our hard earned money. How many bonuses do you give out a year anyways?!!? Why don't you pay us back if you can give out bonuses???!
- Richandler, on 07/10/2009, -0/+11Let see, you work in financial services and you get an offer from another company, that received a bailout, to work for them for more money. The company doesn't want to lose you so they with bailout money give you a bonus.
This again is a problem caused by the government. If all these companies weren't bailed out they wouldn't be getting offers from other companies and therefore wouldn't be getting bonuses. - dralezero, on 07/10/2009, -0/+11or the money fairies at the printing press.
- dixandbub, on 07/10/2009, -1/+12The whole point of this bailout is to get money to Goldman Sachs without oversight. They are getting this money and paying out record bonuses. This entire story is to make you pissed at AIG instead of GS.
Support Ron Paul and DeMint's bills to AUDIT THE FED. The Fed and GS are evil and bleeding this great country dry. - NorthMass, on 07/10/2009, -3/+14I would like all members of congress who voted for TARP to be voted out in 2010, and I would like Obama to be defeated in 2012 as he was one of the biggest supporter of TARP.
- inactive, on 07/10/2009, -1/+12Tell me again why the tax payers are propping up failed institutions. Oh yeah, members of congress are getting a kick back in return.
- Ninjapope, on 07/10/2009, -3/+13Golden Parachutes
- Doubledown, on 07/10/2009, -1/+10Seriously????? get out from living under a rock... everyone was pissed about TARP
- freshgrease, on 07/10/2009, -4/+13Several Japanese CEO's cut their salary and benefits to ~$50,000 USD to make sure there was enough money to keep several employees employed. You won't see that here in America because the name of the game is "sqaunder all the money before your cash cow dies".
- dododohead, on 07/10/2009, -0/+9well you are not just taking the devil's advocate but you are on the right track somewhere. these companies use bonuses as the incentive to come join the party, without that incentive, you are right, nothing. Now the fact that they will probably never accept a cut in bonuses is another story.
- arunforce, on 07/10/2009, -0/+9AIG is going to go down like their stock (incase any of you have been watching them).
- Crewbie4life, on 07/10/2009, -1/+9Hi there. I'm a right wing nut and I disagree with TARP completely 100%. It was not a conservative move . Any true conservative would not support such a blatant waste of taxpayer money, when there was little to show that this money would actually help anything.
Its just the same old technique thats been used over and over again to screw taxpayers:
Is there a problem? well we'll just throw money at it until it goes away, then we can let the next president/congress/generation take the heat while we get the praise for saving the day. - goat2, on 07/10/2009, -0/+8he didnt even tip me
- freonchill, on 07/10/2009, -1/+8id like a raise (to offset the paycut i got last month)
id like 401k matching again
id like health insurance
but what do i get instead, probably laid off on monday.
nice - i will gladly accept their bonus(es). - thcobbs, on 07/10/2009, -0/+7well, unless you want to void contract law.....
- Craig304958, on 07/10/2009, -5/+12@megaton - what's oversimplified about pointing out that AIG was bankrupt and then bailed out with billions of no-strings public dollars? Are these not the same noble executives who helped create this mess? Who the hell CARES if they walk unless they get millions in bonuses paid ultimately with public money?
Jeez, talk about slaves to the propaganda mill, people who can look at the homelessness and joblessness and posture about how justified it is to pay these gambling financiers millions in bonuses for their part in collapsing the system.
Meh. But don't let me stop you, oh propaganda laundromat forever on spin cycle. - inactive, on 07/10/2009, -2/+9These paper shuffling corporate royalists should be hanging from the gallows.
- svtpete, on 07/10/2009, -0/+7Well, I realize that no one wants to hear this since it's always fun to jump on a bandwagon, but the majority of the employees at AIG weren't responsible for screwing the economy or the company up either. Many of them actually did their jobs and were possibly even profitable in their departments. Therefore bonuses to those employees are justified. I'm not saying that all of those receiving bonuses deserve them, far from it. I'll bet you can look at the largest bonuses and find that those are the ones that truly shouldn't be paid. I do agree with the majority though that AIG should have never received any bailout money, at least not until the internal corruption was exposed and dealt with (but that would also expose the corruption within congress so that would never have happened).
- NorthMass, on 07/10/2009, -1/+8Or maybe the politicians of both parties and the president who supported TARP should be voted out of office. If there is no TARP, then there is no AIG bonus scandal.

These executives getting exorbitant bonuses, at this point, conjures the same sort of outrage that must have inspired the implementation of the guillotine not terribly long ago.
- wonderchemist, on 07/10/2009, -4/+10Except, without the help of the taxpayers everyone at AIG wouldn't have a job yet alone a bonus check of taxpayer money to wave in front of the face of the nearly 10 million out of work americans.
- phrawgh, on 07/10/2009, -2/+8It's about time these hard working Americans got their piece of the pie.
