- norman619, on 01/08/2008, -0/+14You're dating your english teacher?
- MrSunshine, on 01/08/2008, -1/+12Anybody else read the subject line as "8 Ways to Take Control of Your Fiancée in 2008"?
Doing this would be quite helpful to take control over your finances. - KipBond, on 01/08/2008, -3/+13"Pay your debts starting with the smallest balance first."
Why not "starting with the highest interest rate first"? - sofaKing812, on 01/08/2008, -1/+11Stop drinking too much.
- xdvx, on 01/08/2008, -0/+10"Spend Less Than You Earn" why I didn't thought about that... but this is not an option.
- film42, on 01/08/2008, -2/+11mint.com ftw!

- digjam, on 01/08/2008, -0/+89.take all you credit cards and shred them
10.Dont get fooled by sales like black friday I, bf II ,bf III, pre christmas sale, christmas sale, post christmas sale...daddys day sale, mommys day sale, doggys day sale, summer sale, winter sale, rainy day sale,
11. And always pls pls pls do read the fine print before you sign up for those SAVE 150% when you open a credit card..with macys, jcpenny, sears..etc they have 25% APR.
12. MOST IMP OF ALL ...Stop buying electronics from BestBuy ,Circuitcity, etc... shop online... you save atleast 30-40% if you know where to look - jdroth, on 01/08/2008, -0/+7Yeah. In the article, I mention that it makes more sense financially to start with high interest rate debt first. But doing the low balances first can provide psychological wins if you can't do it that way.
- ConanTL, on 01/08/2008, -0/+7First you get the money, then you get the power, then you get the women.
... which explains why I don't have a women :) - SgtBulldog, on 01/08/2008, -0/+7Negatory on #9. Cashback credit cards can save you HUNDREDS of dollars a year and greatly improve your credit rating. Credit cards can be a good deal IF you use them properly (keep a low credit utilization and ALWAYS pay in full and on time).
- petoria, on 01/08/2008, -0/+7We gotta get jobs. Then we get the khakis. Then we get the chicks.
- btgoss, on 01/08/2008, -0/+7How did you get over your fear of your entire financial life being in one place? And if you married, how did you convince your wife (or husband) to let you do that? Seriously. These are the two things keeping me from using mint.com.
- neoform, on 01/08/2008, -0/+69. Play lots of high stakes poker with borrowed money.
- inactive, on 01/08/2008, -1/+7how will i get drunk?
- inactive, on 01/08/2008, -1/+7yeah.. put your trust in a web 2.0 company... a site just waiting to get hacked or go under.
- neoform, on 01/08/2008, -0/+6Dude, all they want is your credit card numbers, bank account numbers, and pin codes.. that's less personal than shaking someone's hand. psh.
- gaznet, on 01/08/2008, -0/+5Spend less - Earn more. Simple
- norman619, on 01/08/2008, -0/+5#1 should be "Don't Live Beyond Your Means."
Many people do this then wonder why they are broke and/or in heavy debt. - Darrelc, on 01/08/2008, -1/+6I just sat down for about an hour reading articles on that site. pretty well written stuff (Although I enjoy reading about finances etc). The article about the debt snowball was interesting. I can see how a lot of people would prefer paying of debts like that.
I'm gonna be debt free on friday, woop.
Edit: Just re-read that and I sound like a marketing monkey haha. - JPPiper, on 01/08/2008, -1/+6Live like no one else, so later you get to LIVE like NO ONE ELSE
www.daveramsey.com - MrSunshine, on 01/08/2008, -0/+4Don't spend it on bitches. Or Black Jack.
- markp93, on 01/08/2008, -0/+4don't buy stuff you can't afford!
- Gnasche, on 01/08/2008, -1/+5Here's the SNL version:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-726450075 ... - chrisostermann, on 01/08/2008, -0/+4for another interesting effect, super glue ever penny to a public bench!
- frontporsche, on 01/08/2008, -0/+4The author says:
"4. Throw every other penny at the debt with the lowest balance.
5. When that debt is gone, do not alter the monthly amount used to pay debts, but throw all you can at the debt with the next-lowest balance."
I suppose in a few cases that would make sense, if someone is just overwhelmed by the number of bills and the number of bill becomes the biggest problem. Generally, though, it's better to pay off the higher-after-tax-interest debts first. - chrisostermann, on 01/08/2008, -0/+4or just live LIKE NO ONE else?
- haleym, on 01/08/2008, -0/+49. Use budget web hosting (apparently)
- petebot, on 01/08/2008, -1/+5Iron my shirt!
- wilcox1010, on 01/08/2008, -0/+3Stop working at McDonalds.
- Gnasche, on 01/08/2008, -0/+3Geez, I know I put that in correctly. It cut off the link.
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-726450075 ... - wookme, on 01/08/2008, -0/+3shop till I drop dead.
- chrisostermann, on 01/08/2008, -0/+3Ketchup and water FTPoor!
- rockefeller2, on 01/08/2008, -0/+3I'd have to disagree with the black friday comment. I've gotten some good deals, like a 50" rear projection hdtv for $800, game boy micro for $35. Often, if I'm shopping for electronics, I'll wait until black friday. I can generally get things 30-40% cheaper.
Just know what you're doing and don't get caught up in the hype. - lintmonkey, on 01/08/2008, -0/+3for another interesting effect, read the next two sentences:
"The debt snowball can give you awesome psychological payoffs, keeping you motivated to stay in the game. It’s not mathematically ideal, but it worked for me (and for many others besides)." - lintmonkey, on 01/08/2008, -0/+3"Educate Yourself" about grammar.
- imakeart4u, on 01/08/2008, -0/+2wow, you dissed rob liefeld. x-force man!
- Ordurr, on 01/08/2008, -0/+2Paying off the smallest balance can cause a snowball effect by feeling helping people feel they have accomplished something. It helps with people who can get discouraged by not seeing any 'quick' results.
- ritzcracker, on 01/10/2008, -1/+3if i submitted this ***** it wouldn't have gotten any diggs
life sucks - BinaryDelt, on 01/08/2008, -1/+3I was just telling my gf (high school english teacher) that the other night.
- ScottMitchell, on 01/08/2008, -2/+4How are you saving HUNDREDS of dollars when are keeping "a low credit utilization?" Assuming that a credit card has a 1% cash back feature, in order to make HUNDREDS in a year you would have to charge at least $20,001, or about $1,600 per month. I guess it depends on your income, but I would assume that's not in the "low utilization" range for most people.
- Envark, on 01/08/2008, -0/+2Depending on what you purchase, 2% or more cash back is fairly common.
$10,000 of purchases a year is not at all uncommon, especially for a couple. - euphoriadj, on 01/08/2008, -0/+2I just let the girls buy me drinks
- brbeaird, on 01/08/2008, -1/+3I hope you meant to say "([a] high school english teacher)"....
I also hope you're not still in high school. -
