- kent1146, on 04/06/2008, -0/+4Did anyone else read that as "Panty Week", or am I the only sick bastard here?
- WoollyMittens, on 04/06/2008, -0/+4"And guess what? It's actually OK to eat peanut butter and jelly for dinner one night."
You know the country is heading for a deep depression if you read stuff like this not in jest. - kelkitty, on 04/06/2008, -0/+4If you can pay off your balance every month then you are, actually, making money off of your credit cards. I've made a couple hundred bucks since I got my first one a year or so ago, just by completely ignoring my debit card, using my credit card the SAME way I would a debit (meaning no extra purchases just because I have 'free' money available) and pay it off in full every month. Free money, no interest!
Of course if you don't have the self-discipline or the means to pay it off like that then you are, truthfully, just losing out. It's not for everyone. - uhhNo, on 04/06/2008, -0/+4I have found that the way to get more money is to make more money... it works A LOT better than cutting out your kids' dance lessons and eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for dinner...
- inactive, on 04/06/2008, -1/+3What the ***** kind of hillbilly crazy are you?
Renting a U-Haul to sleep in and camping in a street? Window shopping and stealing to eat? Stay the ***** home if that's your idea of a good time. And don't have any kids either, we don't need any more of you crazy *****. - covertbadger, on 04/06/2008, -1/+3That sounds about the least fun I can imagine. I'd rather spend the 3 days in my garden with a few books and some margarita. Sleeping in a truck and stealing fast food is what I'd do if I were homeless, not what I'd do for fun. What's your plan next year, sleep in a box and eat food from a bin?
- PrestonM, on 04/06/2008, -0/+2Take the money you save and invest it. If you truly need to get out of dodge for a little while go camping. Camping is amazingly inexpensive.
- ihaveanus, on 04/06/2008, -0/+1I agree, if you can ... but allot of people can't control themselves. Many of these rewards schemes are there just to lure people into creating more debt. The best thing anyone can do is to save for it ... but people have lost that ability.
- petebert, on 04/06/2008, -0/+1stands up to yahoos standard of making lame articles
- Jenadae, on 04/06/2008, -2/+3The poor mans 3 day vacation:
Go no farther then one state away renting a U-Haul truck. Buy 3 air mattresses from Wal-mart and make sure not to damage the boxes when opening so that you can return them when you get home. Take U-HAUL to planned state and visit wealthy communities where things that are nice to you come free to them. Pose are wealthy family and exploit amenities. For dinner complain to local fast food joints that they messed up your previous order and demand that they correct it, they'll never see you again so feel free to make a complete ***** of yourself. At night sleep in the back of U-HAUL and try your best to make it as if you were camping, make small fires outside of the truck to cook smores and franks, and have lots of fun stories to talk about. When in a rich community dont forget how much your children may be excited by open houses and local school fairs. If you run out of things to do check out your local AAA to get a magazine on the area, free things include farms, government buildings, flea markets, lakes, parks, and many more.
A vacation is what you make it, not how much you pay for it. Take time to plan things out of the ordinary. - haimtime, on 04/06/2008, -0/+1why is everything in italics?
- whorunbartertwn, on 04/06/2008, -0/+1If you're ok with hitting WalMart and getting the basic no-frills models:
Tent = $30
Cooler = $20
Sleeping bag = $15
Fishing rod + starter tackle kit = $30
Grilling grate, hot dog skewers = $25
Charcoal, food = $25
Beer, ice = $20
Flashlight = $5
Now obviously with that gear you're not braving 5 degrees temperatures on a mountain, catching a 40 lb king salmon, or hiking ridge-to-ridge in the Grand Canyon... but for your average park-and-drink white trash holiday you're fine spending less than $200 for a good time and having plenty of reusable stuff for next time.
Nobody is spending over $1000 on camping stuff for a casual first time where you've got nothing to start with. - Ryan166, on 04/07/2008, -0/+1If you have to make changes to your W-4 tax form, cut your kid's dance lessons, and stop buying food for a week, should you really be vacationing?
- shanamistress, on 04/16/2008, -0/+0Way to Save Number #19 - Lay off the Dom Pérignon and stick to boxed wine for a bit. Or travel to a country with an even weaker currency - you will feel like a millionaire :)
Shana | http://www.campsbayholidays.co.za - muppett, on 05/07/2008, -0/+0vacations sure can be expensive.
Summer Vacation with Kids - kent1146, on 04/06/2008, -1/+1I disagree. If I wanted to go camping, I'd buy a tent, a sleepign bag, camp gear, fishing gear, a bunch of beer, and a cooler to store it all in. Conservatively, a few hundred bucks. Realistically, probably over $1000.
It's only cheap if you have already sunk the costs into that stuff. - ihaveanus, on 04/06/2008, -2/+28. Let credit cards pay you back ... sounds like a bad idea to me. Rewards are just a way to get you to spend more money??
- mywebcamcoach, on 04/06/2008, -0/+0Very good info. Great new travel site>>> aokdestinations.com
