- inactive, on 09/13/2008, -0/+12I had a '58 Mercedes diesel that would get 55 mpg. Currently I have an Isuzu diesel that has been converted to run on vegetable oil. A good friend has a Beetle convertible that gets 50 mpg.It is a 5-speed turbo model that he has put about 100,000 miles on with no real problems.
The scam of taxing diesel extra here has caused many to shy away from diesel cars.
I read an article a while ago about the IRS seeking our people who have converted to vegetable oil and fining them for not paying the diesel tax.
http://claytonbodiecornell.greenoptions.com/2007/0 ... - Minarchian, on 09/13/2008, -0/+8"I say poor sense of economics because most Americans do not see that a tax levied primarily on a business (for example, the extra taxation on diesel fuel that is paid at the pump by trucking and other transportation companies) is only passed on to the end consumer in the price paid at the register. Corporations do not ACTUALLY pay taxes; they simply build any tax into the price paid by the consumer. In fact, to preserve the margins necessary to keep their stock holders happy, they will have to pad the profit to meet the projected profit percentage relative to cost. Most consumers see a tax levied on businesses and smile, since they perceive that tax being paid by someone else."
That is some amazing insight and dead on. I know this to be true because I am self employed myself, I have to include the total costs of doing a job, all taxes included.
They always push to tax "big business" when, in reality, they are only taxing consumers, thereby allowing the Corporations to gain a higher profit margin. In the mean time the Big Government Party looks good to the consumers, who think the Corporations will "pay their way", and the Corporations, who get a large gain to their bottom line.
These cars were built outside of the US because of the policies of the Big Government Party. They're going to have to come up with something soon before too many people learn that there are better cars out there and the Big Government Party is stopping it from getting to them. - Striker101, on 09/13/2008, -0/+7... fining them for not paying the diesel tax. ?????
I am not going to that link, because I believe what you said.
I'm just astounded the IRS could stretch their imagination that far!
Time for that tax strike! morality101.net - Striker101, on 09/13/2008, -0/+6Beautiful!
Somehow most people don't grasp this very simple concept that
corporations are but an associated group of people, a voluntary association of private individuals seeking to accomplish some goal, which is to provide some product or service to the people in expectation of profit which goes back to those same people. It is people who staff corporations, people who invest in corporations. and all taxes are ultimately stolen from the people. Taxes are stolen by government, not by corporations.
This makes it difficult for us to justify us screaming about corporations, which are just we people! - inactive, on 09/13/2008, -0/+5You can thank that tax on diesel for the increased costs of moving goods throughout this country. There are very few thing you purchase that didn't get to their outlet via a diesel based carrier.
This is also a means to consolidate the trucking industry and get rid of the independent truckers.
America is being destroyed by design and we're watching it happen. - sconnor, on 09/13/2008, -3/+8It may save too much gas for the greedy demonistic oil-heads.
- Striker101, on 09/13/2008, -0/+4how nice of you to say that!
- avengingturnip, on 09/13/2008, -0/+4There are 537 people in Washington who are elected and there are almost 3,000,000 federal government employees. So no, our government does not consist of people who are elected.
- inactive, on 09/13/2008, -0/+3I'll agree to an extent.
Once the corporations have grown to the size where they can directly influence how the government operates, we have a problem.
I too am self employed and therefore get tax breaks the average "joe" doesn't. However, I can't influence governmental policies to make my business more profitable. Both military and pharmaceutical corporations have that ability and regularly use it. - Striker101, on 09/13/2008, -0/+3why aren't you pointing at the government? It's not about greedy anyone.
- Striker101, on 09/13/2008, -0/+3decent link to pbs, thanks
I'm a longtime solar home guy - conventional lead/acid batteries have always been somewhat of an issue, but it's a much greater issue for solar autos which must tote that additional load and lose space to the batteries. There must be a better solution awaiting an inventor, hopefully soon. - Antarcticn, on 09/13/2008, -0/+3To a point, I agree with you. But, when the handful of people (or less) running a corporation are literally bedpartners with godvernment criminals, corporatist fascism exists à la Mussolini's Italy. There is quite a lot of this in the USSA nowadays. That's why NAFTA happened. That's why el busho rammed CAFTA through. That's why real Americans are being screwed royally by the SPP (Security And Prosperity Partnership - SAPP). SPP.gov is the stealth version of the FTAA (Free Trade of the Americas Agreement) which was to follow CAFTA. But Americans strongly protested CAFTA which passed the HoRs by a mere 2 votes -- and HoRs leader denny hastert broke the HoRs' rules for voting (not 15 minutes, but well over 1 hour) while 'whip' tom delay ran around the HoRs' floor twisting arms.
This equates to corporate welfare. Winners are chosen in the corporatist world. Losers are executed. You go out of business if you do not sellout, close your domestic business and move operations overseas to slave-labor and near-slave-labor markets, to gain tax incentives and reduced labor costs (pocket the profits . . . maybe pass along a 1¢ here or 2¢ there to customers -- tell them "lower prices" and they'll swallow "It's a real deal ! ! !" baaa, baaaa). Thus, the USA is a nation of consumers, lacking the producing power we were proud of in our past ~ our means of self sufficiency.
Transnational corporatists exported the know-how and the machinations in collusion with godvernment criminals. Because these exported business operations are subject to tax jurisdictions in their new home countries, US tax revenues may not even have increased but kickbacks, payoffs, graft, bribes, etc. surely have along with blood-money profits. And that's the way of the world among political influence peddlers and anti-patriot transnational corporatist fascists. - sheeplescareme, on 09/14/2008, -0/+2how bout compressed air? ready and waiting but the gov isn't willing!
- Antarcticn, on 09/13/2008, -0/+2Friend, you're dangerous to the establishment. You understand their racket too well. Worse, from their perverted viewpoint, you communicate clearly enough for even sheeple to understand it too.
- sassey, on 09/13/2008, -0/+2Another example of how policies of the PTB interfere with our good:
http://www.pbs.org/now/shows/223/#here - Antarcticn, on 09/13/2008, -0/+2Yes it is. Who runs the federal-mafia criminal godvernment? Anti-USA central banksters and their transnational corporatist crime partners.
They deliberately stifle new technologies that can even possibly impede their endless raping, pillaging & plundering of Earthlings. A 65mpg car is nothing. What about Stanley Meyer's water car. He drove it around Florida using water for fuel, burning hydrogen, releasing oxygen. When he planned to drive it from Florida to *****, DC, they assassinated him.
It's ALLLLLL about greed. Wanton infinite craving for power and wealth. That's Pure Greed. That's Pure Evil. - inactive, on 09/13/2008, -0/+2***** the government.
- Striker101, on 09/14/2008, -0/+1Funny you would suggest that. Back when I was a boy I thought that'd be a helluva good idea, actual perpetual motion. Sadly it dawned on me that friction loss takes that great idea to the trash. Darn!
- Striker101, on 09/13/2008, -1/+2This category is Business/Finance, not Opinion. But since you raised your tirade...
Our government consists of people who were elected, yes by brainwashed voters, but elected none-the-less.. Even one mafioso equals only one voter. We both look askance at government, and many are here every day trying to do something about it. What have you done about kicking the rascals out?
Most rational beings make some effort to get ahead, to get outta their ruts, to make a better life for themselves. Even you do that, or you would not have survived to make such a comment. Some people use their brains better and get further ahead. That's not greed; that's not evil; that is simple rational human nature and moral self-interest.
