- LeRenard, on 08/12/2008, -1/+25No taco bell dog? Dell dude?
- contortpiezo, on 08/12/2008, -1/+20The noid was my favorite.
- binky79, on 08/13/2008, -0/+16What about the 7-Up "Spot"?
- somesthetic, on 08/13/2008, -2/+11And here I thought my dad was a creative racist when he sang "ai ai ai ai, I am the frito bandito" every time he saw a mexican restaurant.
I should stop overestimating him. - icemorebutts, on 08/13/2008, -3/+11Digg me down but, I liked Taco Bell dog and the Frito Bandito
- sindex, on 08/13/2008, -0/+8Where's Spuds Mackenzie? I got sent home for wearing a Spuds shirt in elementary school.
- zizzybaloobah, on 08/13/2008, -0/+7Article says Frito Bandito was created in 1967, but later says he put his guns away after Kennedy was assassinated? Was the Bandito a time traveler, or did they mean 57 instead of 67?
Aye yi yi yi ... - Shippwreck87, on 08/13/2008, -0/+6What about Little Cesar!? Pizza Pizza!
- ibeetle, on 08/13/2008, -2/+7I think it is funny that the Frito Bandito, which may not be racist, but is considered politically incorrect. However, Aunt Jemima and Uncle Ben are perfectly O.K.
- 5xSTUN, on 08/13/2008, -0/+4Instead of going around trying to damage pizzas, the Noid could have done far more damage to Domino's by just opening up a pizza place nearby that makes pizza that tastes like something other than the box it came in.
- maxpower2911, on 08/13/2008, -5/+9What about Springy, the Springfield Spring?
- ZephyrNinety, on 08/13/2008, -4/+8No Joe Camel?
- bluebirdgm, on 08/13/2008, -0/+4What really upset me most was the sudden firing of two of the three Cinnamon Toast Crunch bakers.
- ebob9, on 08/13/2008, -0/+4RFK not JFK
- pinchduck, on 08/13/2008, -0/+4They can rip on the Frito Bandito all they want, and their criticisms are justified. You can't escape the fact that he is an obvious caricature of Pancho Villa, however, with the bandoleers and the mustache.
- MisterEX, on 08/13/2008, -0/+4He's not retired! Believe it or not there are still Little Caesar's Pizza places out there! They just do not advertise nearly as much as they used to.
- fredrockbluff, on 08/13/2008, -0/+3apparently even at Domino's you can't avoid the Noid. he came back for revenge
- somesthetic, on 08/13/2008, -0/+3His game was the best.
- Fleagleman, on 08/13/2008, -0/+3What about Sambo's?
Before they changed their mascot to a tiger (and before they became Denny's), Sambo's used to have a stereotyped black tribesman on their menus and sign. Denny's has since become pretty successful in erasing this memory from everyone's minds, and distancing themselves from this bad idea.
Anyone from the South who's in their thirties or older will remember this. - sisko2k5, on 08/13/2008, -1/+4I forgot all about Frito Bandito...but what about the best of all? The Jolly Green Giant and his side kick sprout?
- jstem1994, on 08/13/2008, -0/+2Who the hell is Golly??
- richlw, on 08/13/2008, -0/+2Maybe the Noid should've avoid me...
- kodekitten, on 08/13/2008, -0/+2I'm not really sure how Golly is racist. Granted, I've never laid eyes on him before, but from just the drawing he's just a little black kid. He looks kinda happy.
Maybe I'm missing something. - GalacticRerun, on 08/13/2008, -1/+3This isn't about Olympic mascots.
- MisterEX, on 08/13/2008, -0/+2The Frito Bandito lasted from 1967 to 1971. RFK was killed in 1968 and the Bandito simply holstered his weapons, but that did not mean he wasn't still appearing in advertisements (just wasn't shooting his guns).
Bandito was replaced by Muncha Bunch, and then they were later replaced by W.C. Fritos (after W.C. Fields). - Fleagleman, on 08/13/2008, -0/+2That's a good question, and I think it may have been. But where I'm from, there was no doubt what they were trying to depict.
- secrity, on 08/13/2008, -0/+2I don't think that he was retired after Kennedy was shot, I seem to remember him on commercials later than that.
- Elranzer, on 08/13/2008, -0/+2Robert Downey Jr is making it possible.
- Grimdotdotdot, on 08/13/2008, -0/+2The Burger King Kids Club characters (in the UK at least) had a disabled boy who needed a wheelchair to get around - very PC. What did they call this character?
Wheels.
For *****'s *sake*. - inactive, on 08/13/2008, -0/+1I miss the Noid....
- uselessexpert, on 08/13/2008, -0/+1Seeing the Noid after all these years put a smile on my face this morning.
I not that old to remember the any of the other characters. - inactive, on 08/13/2008, -1/+2I used to have a Frito Bandito action figure. That's how hardcore I am.
- Whitey07, on 08/13/2008, -0/+1Dugg for Smash.
- xtothepowerofx, on 08/13/2008, -0/+1"those aren't the dog's eyes are they dad?"
- RocketGib, on 08/13/2008, -0/+1What about Mr. Pizza Head?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vIEzL7fFUV4 - sindex, on 08/13/2008, -0/+1Dugg because my friends and I still laugh about "The Grapist."
- OCSmoke, on 08/18/2008, -0/+1What about Mikey from Life cereal? As a little white kid named Mikey, this commercial haunted my childhood.
Hey Mikey! He likes it! - GIJosh, on 08/13/2008, -0/+1I loved me some Yo! Noid on the NES.
Seconded on the 7-up Spot though, he (it?) probably trumps everyone else on the list. - dgulbran, on 08/14/2008, -0/+1*RFK* not *JFK*.
- PopcornDave, on 08/13/2008, -0/+1I remember Sambo's restaurants having the story depicted as a mural above the counter seating and vaugely remember kids menus that you could make a mask with Sambo's face, but as I recall he was depicted more as an Indian kid than a black kid. But I grew up in California so it may have been different out here.
- spookyturtle, on 08/13/2008, -0/+1http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pickaninny done.
- mistergoomba, on 08/13/2008, -0/+1that's nice
- PopcornDave, on 08/13/2008, -0/+1Bah. I used to have the Frito Bandito pencil eraser when I was in the second or third grade.
- Elranzer, on 08/13/2008, -0/+1Better than Golly? No wai.
- inactive, on 08/13/2008, -0/+1I RAN OVER ZEE TACO BELL DOG
- OCSmoke, on 08/18/2008, -0/+1And a "garishly oversized sombrero"????? Apparently the writer has never seen a sombrero. I have one that looks just like the one in the 'toon. It's rad.
- sdellboy, on 08/13/2008, -3/+4I still say Cracked.com's "The 7 Most Terrifying Corporate Mascots of All-Time" is way scarier....
