- ManUnitdFan, on 07/15/2009, -10/+124At least Hummer died. 2009 won't be all bad.
- EndecriX, on 07/15/2009, -0/+81Dugg for one page.
- Hyphven, on 07/15/2009, -7/+86Pontiac =(
- tmeaster, on 07/15/2009, -9/+83Good riddance Hummer ;)
- FrancisHC, on 07/15/2009, -1/+58Am I the only one that thinks it's ironic that the Hummer, a concept derived from the AM General HMMWV, a symbol of american military strength, is now Chinese owned?
- Black6x, on 07/15/2009, -0/+40Factor 5 made some awesome Star Wars games.
Especially if you liked fighting on the Death Star and Hoth. - Dustin00, on 07/15/2009, -0/+31Ummmm... technically GM did too... and is now re-animated.
Fear Zombie GM! - brettmjohnson, on 07/15/2009, -0/+31Although I an quite the Apple fanboi, I don't think Homepage and bluetooth headset rank up there with Pontiac and Kodachrome.
- inactive, on 07/15/2009, -1/+30Encarta was a freaking lifesaver in high school. It just took forever to update over dialup. I'll actually miss it a little.
- 4thQtrCoach, on 07/15/2009, -2/+29Amazing how they die! Pontiac GTO - us Boomers will rememember fondtly that car. And Encarta - how outdated is that with things like Wikipedia at our webby little fingertips!
- Scottamus, on 07/15/2009, -0/+26Strange collection. Circuit City, Pontiac, and Hummer are a bit more profound than a lousy friggen bluetooth headset and a short lived smart phone that was merely replaced with better ones which is pretty much what happens to every cell phone out there.
- KoldKalamity, on 07/15/2009, -3/+27***** hummer.
- kubedawg, on 07/15/2009, -1/+23Yeah but now I'm forced to buy my electronics @ Best Buy. At least Circuit City was open about their ***** prices.
- Mutiny32, on 07/15/2009, -2/+21Linux Smartphone? Seriously? Do they realize Android and WebOS are Linux-based?
- bookon, on 07/15/2009, -1/+18Circuit City tried to kill DVD with DIVX. Last year they told me that ANY TV could display an HD SIGNAL, and an HDTV was not required for HD, and tried to sell me a Standard TV when I was looking for a new HD.
Then they told me an SDTV WAS an HDTV when I said I really wanted a HDTV. Circuit City's demise was basic Darwinism. They deserved to die. The person who lied to me deserved to lose their job. Who knows how many people fell for that when they were trying to unload those SDTV’s? - td001, on 07/16/2009, -0/+16Too bad about the Hummer, now what will self important douchebags drive to announce to the world their "douchiness"?
- PopcornDave, on 07/16/2009, -0/+15Escalades?
- DeWallen, on 07/16/2009, -1/+15No it would be ironic if it was now Iraqi owned.
- sporkman, on 07/15/2009, -3/+16And nothing of value was lost.
- cygnus2112, on 07/15/2009, -0/+12Good thing they are keeping around Buick! Because you know how Pontiacs and Saturns are never on the road these days.
- SiXiam, on 07/15/2009, -0/+12Did u not see the word 'UPDATE'
- slayerhk47, on 07/15/2009, -11/+22Pontiac and Hummer. When you only make one car with hardly different features, you know you are doomed.
And is anyone really surprised about hummer? Really??? I mean the last time I saw a hummer it was being driven by Candleja- - inactive, on 07/15/2009, -2/+13Surprised Hummer stayed around for so long. Wasn't a good idea to make it a stand alone brand.
Goodies, today was the last day of the main offices and warehouse selling "everything". I drive past it several times a day, wonder what will go into the place now? Indoor go cart racing would be nice. - PixelMagic, on 07/15/2009, -0/+10I first saw Encarta in 1994 when I got my IBM Aptiva. Those were the days.
- Jeff901, on 07/16/2009, -1/+11The sad thing is, this happens all the time. Just not in such mass.
Even sadder are the 100+++ year old mom and pop shops that folded in the last 2 years that are not mentioned here as they are too small to make it onto the radar - sleuce, on 07/16/2009, -1/+11To hell with Circuit City.
In highschool, I tried to get a job there and they said that I wasn't "ethnic-enough".
Fast forward to present: I design electronics for applications in space.
Good riddance. - inactive, on 07/16/2009, -0/+9Clicked for Circuit City.
Damn, I had forgotten about Home Expo - that place was always pretty neat.
Is the Apple bluetooth headset really worthy of this list?
Seems like Hummer didn't really die.
Those are my four points. - Acqua206, on 07/15/2009, -0/+9I remember being in awe of a CD-Rom that had what I thought the equivalent of the Encyclopedia Britannica at my fingertips. Now its too much trouble to load a disc for info, how far we've come.
- CoD4, on 07/15/2009, -1/+10Midway will rise from the ashes!
- swiftekho, on 07/16/2009, -0/+8AND BILLY MAYS WITH MIGHTY (household object)
- asgardshill, on 07/15/2009, -0/+8Max Factor bit the big wax tadpole? Its been around since 1909 - pretty major news there (and the first I'd heard of it).
- Scottamus, on 07/15/2009, -0/+8You not very good at spinning are you...
It's the biggest depression of this millennium!! - ankhen, on 07/15/2009, -7/+15they personify what's wrong with america and our current excessive living style
- zakatov, on 07/15/2009, -0/+7Yeah, but they are definitely not as "open" as a "real" linux platform.
- volume909, on 07/16/2009, -1/+8Since the death of Billy Mays I'm highly suspicious that only 20 brands died.
- brad3378, on 07/16/2009, -0/+6The new G8 is better than the last GTO produced in 2006
The Solstice is a nice car too. - arbulus, on 07/15/2009, -0/+6I think the biggest problem was that they had no real goal of what they actually were. I heard some guys from OpenMoko on FLOSS Weekly and trying to get them to describe the goal of their project was painful. They said they weren't making consumer phones, they were making phones for other companies to buy and rebrand. then they said that they really weren't making the operating system on the phone, that they were just hardware makers and that it was third party dev's responsibility to come up with an operating system. But when they first announced the phone, it was all about being a Linux based, open source phone for the masses. But on FLOSS Weekly, they basically said they were a hardware manufacturer who served other handset manufacturers. It was confusing as hell. Plus, if you're just a hardware maker, then open source is completely irrelevant. You cannot apply open source concepts to hardware manufacture.
The bottom line though, is that they had too many mixed signals and with the rise of the iPhone shortly after their initial announcement, they were doomed from the start. - MrSketch, on 07/15/2009, -1/+7I was really hoping Openmoko would stick around until I could afford one. It sounded like a neat concept and a fun toy.
- bioviral, on 07/16/2009, -1/+7You will be missed Kodachrome.
- hivoltage815, on 07/16/2009, -0/+6They are stronger than ever. They even own banks now!
- cygnus2112, on 07/15/2009, -3/+8Ring Ring Ring.
Kim Jong il?
It's Ahmadinejad calling. He wants his VHS copy of "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" back, pronto! - TimDigg, on 07/16/2009, -0/+5naw that was late 08...I still struggle to believe a toy store went out of business....at CHRISTMAS time
- yaroze, on 07/15/2009, -0/+5GIJoe's Stores, now I will miss that one!
Ironicly the web site still thinks there are stores around .... Zombie Site
http://www.joessports.com/ - e36wheelman, on 07/15/2009, -0/+5I'm just glad they are moving the G8 over to Chevy.
- MScrip, on 07/15/2009, -0/+5I sincerely apologize.
How big and how often were the updates? You'd think they would mail out an update CD each year... kinda like a yearbook. - DemDude, on 07/16/2009, -0/+5Hummers are great for warzones. For everything else: *****.
Land Rovers are much better Off Road, Pretty much everything else is much better in the street.
And there is not a single non-american car that consumes more fuel per distance. - Coven, on 07/16/2009, -0/+493 LeSabre here. I loved that car...until the wheel well rusted out and water kicked up into my trunk.
- UnWeave, on 07/15/2009, -0/+4I thought Hummer (or just the rights to the brand?) had been bought by a Chinese firm, thus only temporarily dead...?
- darthweder, on 07/16/2009, -0/+4It just stopped selling their name brand in America. They still sell it overseas and have other lines in America
