Mind you, this was in 1990. We had a green screen terminal on the screen, but our co-worker was actually typing characters into it from his own office. With the intercom phone on (and hidden) we started talking at the screen, and the words were magically appearing. "How do you like our new Voice recognition system, boss?" He almost ***** his pants. We didn't tell him until he was back in his office, phone in hand, getting ready to call IBM.

Setting all of that random stuff up to work flawlessly, even over the course of a few months, just seems incredibly unlikely. You can also bet that building security would have taken a keen interest in it if a bunch of guys were fiddling with elevator controls, something that would also take a lot of time and probably a good amount of money too.
